I have no details. Took the car in, waited for it, paid and departed. No further problems have been experienced relative to these repairs.

I started going to Wayne's Auto in May of 2009 after I moved into the neighborhood. They are within walking distance to my house and they would drop me off at work if I needed it. They usually were able to schedule me within 3 days of my call. They were always very courteous and professional. I went to them 8 times altogether (I get my regular oil changes at Lube-It USA). Once the car just stopped running near 18th and Willamette and I got towed to them. They replaced the alternator for $600 and got it running again for me. They did a major 200,000 mile maintenance on my VW Golf that included replacing the serpentine belt, spark plugs and fixing the air injection system. That cost me $540.00. I spent a total of just over $2150 for all 8 visits over the course of 3 years. I began to question their diagnostic capabilities at some point before the "last straw". They seemed to be overly reliant on the computer reports. I expect a good auto mechanic to have their own understanding of the vehicle and to use their own diagnostic reasoning and have the computer assist them. But these guys just shrugged if the computer couldn't give them the answer. Also, I wonder now if I had things replaced just because the computer indicated something might be wrong when really it was something else. For example, they replaced the thermostat and temperature sensor. A while later the check engine light came on the they ran the diagnostic and said it looks like you might need a new thermostat. Of course I said "Didn't we already do that?" But I took it in and they ended up replacing the sensor housing. Well it was 300 miles after that when the alternator went out and left me stranded. Looking back I wondered if the alternator wasn't the reason for the check engine light all along. So when they charged me $144 just to shrug at me and send me off on my road trip with no maintenance whatsoever, I never came back. I didn't even bother to tell them off.

"We wish to apologize to the Member for the bad experience he had with us and the obvious miscommunication, but we did inspect his complete brake system as is documented on his repair order including the brake pad thickness remaining at front and rear. We were never authorized to change his oil and unfortunately, because of that, did not get that done for him. We did spend a considerable amount of time on his car trying to duplicate an ABS problem so that we could diagnose it for him but since he had only experienced one time, we were unable to duplicate for him. Hopefully he found someone that could duplicate it on the “spot”."

The cost of labor and replacement parts and labor was estimated to be over $1,000. We bought the part ourselves, took it to a professionally trained mechanic, who installed it and the total cost of parts and labor was $450.00. The people at Wayne's were professional and couldn't have been more accommodating, but their prices were prohibitive. If money was not an issue, yes, we would use them again as the only thing we could fault them for was the markup on parts and their prohibitive cost of labor.
Response from Wayne's Garage
"Our estimate of $810 for the fuel pump included a complete pump module. Yes it can be done cheaper, but we’ve seen too many failures within a year when just putting a cheap pump into the module. We prefer to do a repair only once."

Car repairs are a pain, but Wayne's makes it as good an experience as can be hoped for. They have always given me accurate estimates and completed the work within the estimated time frame. They have always provided a clear explanation of the problem and the work performed. The waiting room is clean and quiet. They have a car and driver who will take you home after you leave your car with them, and pick you up when your car is ready. My car has always been washed clean when I pick it up. The people at Wayne's seem dedicated to providing good service.

it started leaking again and when I returned to have it fixed right they gave me the run-around and I had it fixed at another shop. They (waynes) left me wondering if they did any of the work that I paid for. Defininately don't trust these guys. not sure if it was incompetence or dishonesty or both.

Had clutch rebuilt 5/29/09 and it started leaking right away. I took it to another mechanic on 8/17/09 who said the clutch cylinder was leaking and needed to be replaced. Wayne's also said the transmission needed to be rebuilt. The second mechanic found nothing wrong with the transmission, they found and fixed problems that resulted from Wayne's poor work. So far all the work that Wayne's Garage has done on this vehicle has needed to be redone.
Response from Wayne's Garage
"Please look beyond the lies of this person who for some reason is on a personal vendetta against us. We replaced the clutch in May of 2009. We recommended the slave cylinder be as part of the repair as this unit is in the bell housing and sometimes will fail after clutch replacement. The customer declined this. This is documented on their repair order. We also mentioned there was a slight noise from the transmission input bearing that was not a problem now but could be later. Replacing this bearing would be cheaper with the transmission out than at a later time. As stated on their repair order “transmission input shaft bearing is noisy”. There never was a recommendation for a transmission rebuild. If we don’t mention these things during inspection we are not being thorough."

Replaced intake manifold gasket which started leaking within a year. I took it back and was told that it had been 20 months since the work had been done and they only cover their work for 18 months. got the run around, they put dye in the oil and said to come back in a week or two. They did not offer to make it right. That's the last I heard from them. I've since taken my truck to another mechanic and everything Wayne's did is leaking and has to be re-done. Shoddy work and not-so-honest front office.
Response from Wayne's Garage
"This oil leak repair was never denied. We told them it appeared the intake maybe leaking when doing clutch repair. We put dye in the oil and told them to return in a week or two so we could verify the leak. They never returned or gave us an opportunity to make this right. We have often extended our very generous 18 month warranty when we feel something failed prematurely. If we had no intention of addressing this we would not have put the dye in."

Very professional interactions all around from the initial call to pick-up. The garage called to let us know the results of the diagnosis and gave two options for repair with costs. Very helpful with follow up. Would definitely use Wayne's Garage again.

From the time I called for an appointment to when I picked up the repaired vehicle I was very, very pleased with the customer service at Wayne's Garage. When I dropped the Beetle off I was told that they would call me as soon as they knew what was going on with the car and at that time would let me know the estimate and all that would be done. I received two more phone calls during the day, one telling me about the warranted part and recall notice that the VW dealer would take care of and the other telling me the car was ready to be picked up. The cost was lower than estimated, the car was repaired before the estimated time and the great folks at Wayne's had even washed my car for me! The patience, knowledge, attention to detail and excellent customer service I experienced at Wayne's was exceptional. I even received a follow-up phone call making sure that I was happy with the work done on my car... Which I am! I highly recommend Wayne's Garage!
