Took the amp in on 11/06 and it was done on 11/30.
Took awhile, but we are happy with the fix and price. Would use Jim's service again.

I was impressed that they came the same day I called them. The technician that did the work really seemed to know what he was doing. He knew exactly how to take the inner workings out so he could put them in his truck, fix them in about three days, then bring them back to reinstall them.

I did not take the stereo to Jim's the first time because of negative report on Angie's List (mostly about the counter person), but the other repair shop did not fix the problem. I first contacted Jim's Electronics by email through their website and was emailed back that they would be happy to work on my very old Marantz stereo tuner that had a loud crackling sound for the first minute after power was turned on. I dropped off the tuner 5/4/11 and picked it up 5/13/11. Diagnosis fee was $45, which applied to the total cost. They called several days later with a diagnosis and estimate of an additional $60 for the repair, which I ok'd. The repair was completed in a few days. When I picked up the tuner, it was clean and worked properly. The total was $105, which agreed with the estimate. I have since emailed Jim with additional questions and he answered promptly, courteously, and effectively. I have been pleased with the service at Jim's Electronics and the price seemed fair for the expertise required. Don't expect the counter person to diagnose the problem. Her job is to complete paperwork, make phone calls, and receive and return the equipment so that the technician can concentrate on his work. I'm happy to have my classic stereo working properly again!

I have given up on Jim's. They always seem to hire front desk staff that know nothing about stereos and have not even a vague interest in electronics. I had used them for years and finally found Thompson's, who are excellent. At Jim's I could not even communicate the problem since the desk person didn't know the subject at all. I suspect nepotism must be the driving source for hiring such clueless and apathetic staff. The actual repair was OK but it did take a couple of follow up phone calls on my part to convey the needed description of problem.
