Jeff's workmanship is creative and impeccable. I had tired of seeing poorly made furniture that was, in my opinion, too costly for the quality of work and product. He showed me his portfolio and I knew we could work together. The work was always finished in a timely fashion and he kept me apprised of progress. Yes, you can buy cheaper furniture but you will not find the same quality and perfect fit that Jeff provided me. These timeless pieces will last for generations. What was the best part of the process? Jeff involved me in the entire process. He gave me time to decide when I was waffling between one design element and another. He was never condescending, frustrated, or short-tempered. He was always a pleasure to work with. He clearly wanted to please me with the style and design while never compromising craftsmanship. As he said, "You have to live with this, not me, so I want you to be happy." What do I recommend if you hire Jeff? Get involved and communicate with him. Be specific in what you want and be willing to spend the time needed to get what you want. He is not a furniture factory that aims for the largest audience but a craftsman who wants to solve your individual needs and desires. Be willing to work with and wait for the whoie process - it's worth it. Will I hire Jeff again? Absolutely. In fact, I have a couple of ideas that I plan to discuss with him in the near future. Would I recommend Jeff? Yes and I have. I cannot praise his work enough.
Description of Work: Jeff Wright was contracted to make two pieces of solid cherry furniture - a Queen Anne-style storage credenza - summer 2010, approx $1500.00, and a traditional-style dining table with extension leaves - November, 2011, approx $2000.00. With both projects, Jeff spent several hours with me in my home. We discussed the type of woods, designs, style, and function. These pieces were not going to be inexpensive so we worked very carefully to ensure they would blend with my existing decor and that they would be pieces I could live with forever. He prepared preliminary drawings which we then tweaked as necessary. I was involved in each top of the process from the acceptance of the specific wood to be used to the lovely design elements. Jeff had me stop by his shop to approve the stages and to ensure we were both on lthe same page. There were quirks that Jeff had to accomodate. The credenza had to blend with the dark and medium mahogany pieces I already owned. The cabinets have to hold vinyl record albums in an upright position. The drawers have to hold CDs, in their jewel case, on their side, so I can read the label. I wanted the design elements to be clean yet elegant in keeping with the traditional style I prefer. The credenza had to be on legs tall enough to allow air movement from the heat vent located right under the middle of it. The dining table had to be more narrow that what is normally available commercially yet it also had to accomodate 3 12" leaves for family gatherings. My existing dining table was old and cheap - the aluminium sliding mechanism was but a moment away from total failure. The sliding mechanism Jeff provided, solid wood, is very solid, glides like silk and I can operate it with just one hand. The finish had to match the new chairs I bought prior to ordering the table and also complement the existing pieces. The base for the table had to be creatively designed so that when the table is extended, the support needed was provided. He designed an almost craftsman-style base that provided the necessary support yet maintained the traditional style I wanted. This resulted in a very solid table without a heavy look.
