Mr. Claxton was running late, but his office (wife) did call to let me know. He arrived within the time indicated on the call. Upon arrival, he remembered his last service call and reminded me, my daughter, and my housemate several times throughout the repair session, that he installed an igniter "for free." Yes, that was why I remembered him and called him. After some extended small talk, he then proceeded to dis assemble, inspect and repair the unit itself. He began work on cleaning the stovepipe that runs through the chimney, and after he was done brushing the pipe out, he looked at the ashes and said, "unconscionable." I thought perhaps he meant there was some essential part in the stove's assembly that was missing, or a gross error in the original installation. But he motioned me over to look at the pile of ashes. I asked what was I looking for, and he wanted to complain to me about how dirty the chimney was. I knew it was dirty, that was why I called him to fix the stove and clean it. I tried to clean it after each use, but obviously I could not clean the stove pipe. He went on at length about the filthy stove pipe, and actually appeared angry about having to do the work. I found it to be beyond off-putting so I left the room. He then proceeded to call his wife on the phone, and complain that he would be running late because of the filthy chimney, that "this stove has never been cleaned." He, in fact, complained so long and so loud over his phone, that my daughter who was napping in the bedroom down the hall WITH THE DOOR CLOSED could still hear him and his complaining. When he began putting his tools away, he told me he was running late, and that I should make out his check for $329.00 so he could leave, since the job took him so long, since the chimney was so filthy. I told him I would pay him in cash, so make out a receipt, he asked if I had an email address, he would email my receipt. I said no, I would pay cash and get a receipt then and there or I would write a check. He gave me a receipt for $329.00 and I paid him $330 in cash. He left, the stove runs again, but will not stay lit on the low setting, the auger is making an awful noise, and I will not ever call that company again for repairs. Not recommended.
