Two days later I get a bill for $650 (?!?!?). I paid it. Whatever, I figured. All electricians are basically liars anyway.
Flash forward to the ice storm of February 2014. As the trees were popping and falling all around my neighborhood, I knew that the power would soon go out. I wasn't apprehensive as I knew that I had had the foresight to hook up a generator drop for my home the previous spring. When the power finally did go out, I collected my generator and set out to plug in and enjoy the storm.
As soon as I got to the plug I noticed I had been duped. Where I was expecting a 4 prong 30-amp switch, I was greeted with a 3 prong 50 amp job. The generator work Bear Mountain did was essentially worthless. I could not run my well, my hot water heater,
or my range. I spent the next 4 days in a freezing and dark house waiting for the power to come back on so I could call Bear Mountain Electric to fix their work.
When the power did come on, the owner and I spoke and I told him about my experiences and urged him in no uncertain terms that I was extremely displeased and that he needed to come fix it. To my amazement, he did, at and quot;no charge.and quot; (Gee, thanks for not charging me for the work that I already overpaid for).
So, in the end, Bear Mountain will quote you whatever they want, charge you whatever they want, and do whatever work they want to do, irregardless of the customers parameters, directions, and supplies.
Turns out they estimated about 100% off (cost double). The switches that we would want hooked up, we were told and quot;couldn't beand quot;, without tearing into the walls (ok), but the level of communication was very poor, follow up non-existent
and overall job estimate way off.
P.S. The breaker hasn't tripped again.
