I took it to Stark's in Beaverton, and Carly, the employee who helped me, noted that one filter was clogged and the one I cleaned was cracked around the gasket. (The vacuum maker claims its filters don't need replacing, but that was not true in this case.)
After replacing the filters, the vacuum still didn't work well, so she found a clog in the hose (I have two indoor cats who shed year-round), cleaned it up, and it worked fine. The filters cost $28, her labor was free, and I was out of there in 20 minutes.
I noticed that their prices were equivalent or lower than the discount store where I bought the vacuum, so I'll go back there in a year or so to get a new one.
All in all, well done!
