Workers arrived after I left for exercise class during early morning hours. I returned as they were busily working. They were on time, and completed the job in a professional manner. Quality of work was excellent. They did a good job cleaning up all the debris. I was very pleased with what they did.

Read the above. We got a written bid for either replacing that half now (not recommended) or waiting 3 years and have the entire roof replaced. We opted for waiting, and were happy to meet a business man who told us the truth instead of trying to sell us an entire roof.
Description of Work: A rep came by to look at our roof which has 1/2 newer (10-year-old remodel) and 1/2 older roof. He had been running late, and called to tell me that. He climbed up on the roof and told us we could get another 3 years off older half, and said he would be glad to come by and inspect the older half from time to time when he was in the area. It felt great to be under a roofer's "care" when he had no monitary guarantee that in 3 years we would get a new roof.

They came at a reasonable hour in the morning, completed the work by noon, cleaned up, and left. They did what they said they would do and it looks good. This was an alternative to having the entire roof replaced.

- THEY WERE ON TIME - THEY WERE ORGANIZED!!! - THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING!! - OLD ROOF OFF IN UNDER AN HOUR! - THEY WERE SELF-CONTAINED - EVEN BROUGHT THEIR OWN PORT-A-POTTY! ************************** TIPS From Stutzman I'm validating from my firsthand experience, with extra notes thrown in: -TAKE THE DAY OFF - find somewhere fun to go and leave your contact info so they can contact you with questions IF NEEDED and let you know "it's a wrap." - PETS ALSO GET THE DAY OFF - take to groomers, boarding, whatever - BE NICE - CLUE IN YOUR NEIGHBORS AS TO "THE DAY IT WILL HAPPEN" - We did, and it was a good/respectful thing - No matter what, you're going to find a few of the old roof nails popped from the old roof removal into the grass or shrubs - perhaps I could have cleared the area better, including doing a close-mow of the yard. Stutzman crew was pretty wow thorough, even in the 90's of the day. - The house gets a good shaking, with all the heavy work going on overhead, dust did happen. - Do consider setting down fragile wall hangings - the shaking wasn't as bad as an earthquake, but it's little shaking over an extended period of time. We did as a precaution, and had no damaged goods. - Staying inside the house while the roofing job is going on sounds and feels like a combat zone, with authentic noise and percussive effects. I survived "under fire" a couple of hours, then took a "time out" elsewhere for a while. - It's quieter in the neighborhood if they can use your 220v electrical outlet - but they have a generator if you don't. - Provide ample parking space - two driveway spaces for big working/supply trucks, and couple more spaces for other rigs. This is when for-notified neighbors help. BIGGIE: Yes, one *could* do it *cheaper,* with a fly-by-night/week outfit employing cute and/or so-nice-smiling reps, or with seemingly eager good-intentioned neighbors, maybe friends . . . . We've observed this elsewhere in the neighborhood, and, frankly, the results usually sucked big time and/or took MONTHS. WE HAD ***EVERYTHING*** . . . DONE . . . WITHIN . . . ONE . . . DAY BIGGIE2: Watch out for the hidden fees with the other "cheaper" vendors - just the dump fees of old (if it's even accepted) roofing materials alone way more than made up for the seeming "extra" of our quote. That's not counting the fuel, value of time to load/unload/transit the stuff. BIGGIE3: Watch out for the "OPTIONS" mania - others flooded us with "you can do this, that, or even THAT," which, OK, there were a couple, like those solar tunnel lights, or even a skylight, maybe a powered thermostat-controlled roof vent . . . . We considered and reviewed. I was really interested in getting some kind of ventilation into the garage. In the process of buying our place twenty years ago, the previous owner did the DIY option, and failed to properly flash the brick chimney and didn't install vents over the garage as per our pre-purchase request. They put two vents near the gutter over the kitchen . . . yeah, Stutzman corrected that. Stutzman installed three new vents - two over the garage, one over the non-vented far end of the house - included in the cost, nothing extra, as long as it gets done DURING the roofing project. The two basic roof vents over the garage now make a MAJOR difference in working in the garage during our "heated" days of Summer. The roof vent over the far end resulted in cooler bedroom/office areas. It's a SIMPLE solution, that works, and we didn't need to do the extra cost of hooking up a powered vent. Which, by the way, was Stutzman's recommendation - to keep it simple for the type of house we have, a basic single-story ranch. TCO: "Total Cost of Ownership" - Other people kept recommending us with "do-it-yourself" "cheaper" solutions. We felt that falling off the roof or inspiring ER injury costs would be WAY too expensive, as well as not getting the job done . . . RIGHT. WHAT "OTHERS" SAY: There seemed to be an endless stream of roofer wannabee subject-matter-experts (SME)(!) spreading their concern-mongering of how they "heard" Stutzman didn't do this, or seemed to be that, . . . BUT . . . ask for the proof and followup, and suddenly these . . . . "distractors" couldn't deliver. Yes, if your neighbor is READY AND WILLING, you can save 500 bucks by having the roofs done at the same time. Savings in logistics are passed to the customer. In our case, it was the RIGHT THING to go ahead and GET IT DONE ourselves, in our time frame comfort zone (before November). TIMING: Getting the roof project done during the "slow time" of early-ish Summer is the way to go - we had not even two weeks from quote to finish. GET THE FACTS: When Stutzman was finishing up, another contractor came by and attempted to downplay Stutzman (in front of our house, while Stutzman was finishing up!) and promote how they had more options, judging our roof to be "OK, but . . . " The other contractor representative was oh-so-pleasant and polite, well-versed in the game of passive intimidation . . . . sheesh, . . . . . they couldn't produce the facts, and I could, back at them, respectful yet firm. I, mere homeowner, knew the products and numbers better than they did . . . . BE AWARE: "Cheaper" roofing contractors troll the neighborhood - 'tis the season, and the economy. We called Stutzman, they came, did what they bidded (with understanding they'd check with us if they found a dry-rotted undersheet of plywood - we still had option to say "no," but, 45$ to remove and replace plywood sheet with materials and labor - that's a roger-do-that). During my research, stories abound about how a roofer would get started, purposely go out of business before finish of job, taking your money, and so on. Stutzman had the gumption of asking us for payment . . . wait for it . . . AFTER the job was done. WOW! That to us is confidence, professionalism, and faith in their quality work. As a small business owner, previous HP project manager, previous FedEx manager, I was taken with the Stutzman group cohesiveness, effectiveness, team-building, shared skillsets, and ABUNDANCE of customer service, politeness, and great attitude (all day, in 90-degree-plus glaring heat). It's so OBVIOUS that these guys knew what they were doing, and work together regularly as this diverse group of Individuals. This is a "demonstratable commitment to diversity" in action. It was fun to see and hear the easy banter in at least two languages, while at the same time being tuned in to whenever I had a question. BOTTOM LINE: It was a little scary, spending a chunk of money like this. However, having a really good quality roof over our heads gives us peace of mind. We still shake our heads when we remember IT WAS BUILT IN A DAY. It also just looks wow awesome!
Description of Work: - Owens Corning Duration TruDef - Waaay better than original three-tab and IKO Cambridge - Tearoff AND DISPOSE of 1 Layer Composition (MAJOR savings over doing this ourselves, with gas and dumping fees) - Plywood for possible dryrot on standby, 45$/Sheet removed/installed if required - we didn't need any - Installed ASTM Rated Synthetic Roofing Felt Underlayment - Installed Ice and Water shield in valley and around all roof penetrations - Installed New High Profile Hip and Ridge Material - Installed New Painted Metal Rake flashing on Gables - Installed New Painted Metal Drip flashing on Eaves - Installed New Painted Metal Roof Vents (replaced old roof vents) - Installed Three NEW Painted Roof Vents - two over garage, one more over end of house - no extra charge - done with rest of the job, so, cheaper - Installed New Plumbing Vent Pipe Flashings - Re-countered Flashing and Re-Flash Brick Chimney (previous roofer did not do this properly, now, it's not only done, but Stutzman PAINTED Flashing to way better match the roof color) - Final Cleanup (Very thorough, with magnets, walk-throughs, and doing magnets/walkthroughs again)

From the estimator to the Secretaries to the crew that came out to work on my house. This company is awesome. The roofing crew arrived on the scheduled date - on time. They worked hard. Any questions I had were always answered and explained at length if need be, very politely. (And I asked a lot of questions.) They were nice, very professional, and they knew their craft. The roof was completed and all clean-up was taken care of in the time that was estimated. Also the crew (without being told to) took the time to go back over everything. It was great to see them do this. I would definitely use this contractor again and I would recommend them to my family, friends, or anyone else interested in having their roof done right - the first time.
Description of Work: The Contractor removed previous layers of asphalt shingles, fixed areas of dry rot, installed a new layer of plywood over the entire roof then added the roofing tar paper and a layer of architectural shingles on the entire roof.

We had put on an addition to the house when I remarried (widowed 2006) and I was cheap and did not re-roof the entire house. Upon checking for moss accumulation noticed that the ridge cap shingles we badly cracked. Consulted contractor who did addition for roofing contractor. That person did a hand written estimate and was vague on the material quality. I contacted Stutzman who provided a detailed type-written estimate with options as to quality of roofing material. They also suggested replacing the ridge cap shingles extending the useful life of the old portions of the roof 3-5 years, postponing the expense of doing the entire roof. Doing only the old portion is labor intensive and replacing the entire roof when the time comes is the best option. They arrived promptly when they said they would. They completed the job in one morning and did a thorough clean-up. I wrote them a check for the estimate amount (less than a tenth the amount of an entire roof) and we were both content. This contractor is well known in the area and will not likely be the lowest bidder but quite likely may be the best value. Also, my wife has finally gotten a sale on her house and Stutzman did the minor roof repair requited by the inspection the day before the work on our home.

The crew was on time, job manager introduced self and went over project. Gave me an approximate time for completion. Crew worked very efficiently with minimum noise and chatter. Everyone was polite. Project manager was on sight through out the whole project and he was the one to notice that my solar tube was not working properly. He gave me information on the new type of tubes and made suggestions based on the location and size and need for my home. I requested them to replace the old one and that also went very well. The job was completed and crew driving off from property 2 hours before expected finish time. That included the time to walk the property, sign paperwork of job completed and a little chat with him about my happiness with appearance, new solar tubes light capability and the appearance and professionalism of the whole crew.
Description of Work: Removed old comp roof and disposed. Installed new ASTM rated roofing felt under lay, new high profile hip and ridge material, installed new ice/water shield, new metal flashing on gables and eaves, new metal roof vents, reflashed fireplace chimney, installed new solar tube, checked area for nails, debris, walked over area with me and made sure any questions were answered.

This was a class act from start to finish. I could not be happier with their performance so this is a rave review. They scheduled the inspection within two days and showed up exactly on time. After a brief description of our desires he proceeded to get up on the roof and measure everything. We then talked about what he found and the advisability of a ridge vent rather than adding other additional roof vents I had requested. We also discussed the various roofing material options and he left samples for us to consider. The quote was sent by email the next day and it arrived from the post office the following day. We made our decision and he came out the next day to sign off. The scheduler called the next day and we chose a convenient installation date. On the morning for the installation, the crew arrived about 5 minutes early with 10 people, two big trucks, an equipment truck with crew cab and a pickup. Within 10 minutes of getting everything parked, there were people all over the roof and on the ground protecting plants, heat pump and setting up equipment. Watching this crew work is watching a well oiled machine run. Each guy had a specific role to play and knew exactly what to do. According to the foreman, Candido, his crew is stable so they do their work without much direction. They pulled off the roofing and carefully put the stuff in the truck with little material falling on the ground. The carpenters installed flashing all around chimney and skylight while the rest cleaned the roof. New openings for the ridge vent were made while the old vent holes were patched. By early afternoon the whole thing was wrapped up. And then the cleanup started. There were guys under shrubs, digging in the top of the bushes, cleaning up the driveway with a magnet and using a leaf blower on the walks and patio. The end result was a place a lot cleaner than when they got here. And I have looked, and there is not a shred of evidence on the ground that any work had been done on the roof. Amazing.

Our experience with Stutzman & Kropf Contractors Inc. Roofing was outstanding from day one until the completion of our roof replacement!!! They were very patient and understanding with me as I struggled to decide what kind of roof to purchase. They provided addresses of homes for me to drive by so I could view an entire roof instead of the small samples available. Many of these roofs were not installed by Stutzman & Kropf but were near where we live. We replaced a 22 year old shake roof that was a prominent feature when viewing our home. Alas, a decision was made and the installation date was set. Monday morning a roar of trucks came up our street and the process began. There were 16 men on the crew! Yes...16! It took 2 days to tear off, install plywood, drip flashing, ice & water shield, metal rake flashing on gables, synthetic roof underlayment, step and wall flashing as required, reflash skylight, new lead pipe flashings, GAF Grand Sequoia shingles, new painted metal roof vents, high profile hip & ridge cap. They also cleaned all gutters (running the entire distance around two stories). The area surrounding the house was cleaner after they left than before they arrived. Everyone on the crew was very friendly, accommodating and polite! A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU. Shannon Potter, the friendly voice on the phone from their office, went above and beyond to help me make this most difficult decision (shingle & color). Thank you!!! Courtney Ohling never pressured me for a decision but guided me to the RIGHT choice. Thank you Courtney for all of your help and sincere desire to sell us the RIGHT product. There are many roofing companies in Salem, Oregon and the surrounding area but none of them can compare to Stutzman & Kropf. I would recommend this company without reservation. They also replaced the roof on my parents single story home. My father said to give his recommendation as well. He said they did an outstanding job and will recommend them to ALL of their neighbors!!!
Description of Work: We had a complete roof replacement: removed a 22 year old shake roof and replaced it with a GAF Grand Sequoia shingles. Our home is two story with a very complicated roof line.

Stutzman and Kropf came out replaced our old 3 tab roof on our old fixer upper house, our old roof was in pretty bad shape, I was concerned how the new roof was going to look on our old 1946 farm house. They replaced the roof while I was at work, when I came home the foreman introduced himself to me and informed me on how the job was going, he was very professional, I was very happy with how my new roof was looking. After the job was complete they cleaned up all the construction debris around the flower beads, yard, and the gutters. I would have to say my gutters were cleaner after they finished. I am very happy with the services Stutzman and Kropf provided and there craftsmanship, our new roof looks great! I would definitely use stutzman and Kropf contracters again.

Communication with the employees of this firm were very good. As I had an apartment roof that was leaking, they sent a crew over to place plastic over the area to minimize damage until they got the re-roof done. There was no additional charge for this property conservation service. As I was out of town at the time, all the details of this job were completed by phone and e-mail. They were able to provide me with a detailed bid relatively quickly. With a signed agreement, the job was scheduled approximately a week out. They did a great installation and left the site in a condition that was cleaner than when they arrived. A professional group that provides quality installations, great customer service, at a reasonable price; a combination that is hard to surpass!
Description of Work: They removed the old roofing from a small apartment building and disposed of it. Installed felt underlayment, new flashing, roof vents, plumbing vent pipe flashings, and IKO asphalt shingles. When done the grounds around the structure were picked-up and left in a very clean condition.

This is a highly professional outfit, very conscientious and knowledgeable. They were willing to negotiate the price when we receiveed a slightly lower bid from another reputable company, and, unlike many in the construction business, didn't want any payment until the job was complete and to our satisfaction. The workers were industrious and courteous, and the estimator/manager (Courtney) was extremely professional and thorough. I have no reason to believe we'll have a problem with the roof, but if we do I have no doubt they'll make it right. They did a very slight bit of damage to a landscape item, but after showing it to Courtney we didn't even have to ask him to replace it--he offered to do so right away. Their cleanup was very thorough and the roof looks great. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this company to anyone. As an aside, it's clear that they take good care of their employees, finding work for them in the off-season, offering benefits including health insurance and a retirement plan, etc. Another big plus in our book--they obviously care about the people who work for them.
