"The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

"After looking at several storage buildings from different companies and pricing them, I settled on Cedar Built. By far the best building for a very good price and built right on my property. I didnt have to worry about some huge truck backing a prebuild onto my property and leaving huge ruts to contend with. Very EXCELLENT service and a very well built building that has all the option I wanted. A VERY satisfied customer."

"The process went very smoothly and we were very pleased with our home. We had the opportunity to view the home throughout the build and it gave us peace of mind that everything was going well. Some builders won't let you view your home as you please, but this was one of the advantages of having a great builder. We enjoyed picking out the colors and items that would be in our home. I would recommend Sooner Homes to anyone looking for a new home, they are great people to work with."

"I've used Hays for 2 projects so far. He did a good job repairing some soffits on the first job so I asked if he did tile. A flooring store and a tile guy had already measured the area and came up with 620 to 650 square feet. Bob said it was 520 square feet. His honesty saved me from buying way too much tile that I would not have been able to return. He did a great job on the oversized tile which is difficult to lay. I'll be using him again for future jobs!!!"

"Our garage door opener quit working. Scott came out and tried to fix it, but it was beyond repair. He didn't charge me a service fee for this visit. We bought a new opener at Home Depot, and Scott came out a second time & installed it very quickly. He also changed out the track and rubber moulding on the smaller garage door. It was $150 for the new track/moulding and $150 for the garage opener installation. He is very knowledgeable, honest, and friendly. He was able to come out the next day the first time I called him. He is a hard worker & work was done quickly; we would definitely hire him again."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

Yes, you can finance new construction, though the process often requires a different type of loan than one for an existing property. There are several financing options available:

  • Construction-to-Permanent Loan: This is a common option where a single loan covers the building costs and then converts into a traditional mortgage once construction is complete and you move in.

  • Construction Loan (Stand-Alone): This type of loan provides funding only for the duration of the construction project. Once the house is built, you will need to pay the loan in full, typically by securing a separate, standard mortgage.

  • Builder Financing: Some custom homebuilders offer their own financing options, which may only require a down payment to begin the building process.

  • Bridge Loan: This can be a useful short-term loan to fund your new construction while you are in the process of selling your old home.

  • Home Equity Options: If you are building a second home, you might be able to use a home equity line of credit (HELOC) or a cash-out refinance on your current property.

It's also important to be aware that some lenders may have restrictions on financing for DIY house builds, so be sure to verify that you can secure financing before starting your project.

Above all, the downside to building a new house is a longer timeline. You need several months to finish the build, depending on the supply chain and labor availability in the meantime. Building a home compared to buying one is also more expensive, both in the building process and when it comes to mortgage rates and property taxes.

Ultimately, a work warranty is only as reliable as the contractor you’ve hired. That’s why trust and reputation are such important factors, in addition to having a solid contract and confirming appropriate licensing, insurance, and bonding. When looking for a contractor, it’s a good idea to read online reviews and ratings to see what kind of experience past customers have had. Issues with your contractor can make for an unsatisfying renovation process, but a reliable contractor can make the process go as smoothly as possible.

Yes, such as using eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient designs for long-term savings.
