"i worked directly with Mr. McClelland on the bathroom renovation at my mothers home. He was very responsive with his initial contact, visit and returning the quote to us. Our goal was to get the bathroom functional and safe for my mother and the end result was beyond my expectations. We interviewed several people for the job but after meeting him, we immediately made the decision to work with him. I live out of state and felt completely comfortable leaving my Mother in his hands. He showed up on time and with a smile and completed the job in a timely manner despite running into quite a few old home issues. He called to discuss work arounds for these issues that made sense and were economical. We are thankful for his hard work and to know that we have someone to help with my mothers home repairs when we cannot be there. We will be hiring him in the bear future for an additional bathroom remodel and we will not hesitate to refer him to friends and family in need of hiring a capable and talented handyman! Andrew mcClelland is your man!"

"I hired them to remodel my grandparents house and they discussed with me the breakdown of every room and what they were going to do. As well as every purchase and worked with me on paying for the project in full"

"Amanda was really very good!  At first I was very skeptical, thinking why did I pay money to just speak with someone on the phone about my kitchen remodel project... but after just a few minutes of her addressing some of the issues/questions I emailed to her earlier, I knew it was worth it.  It was very clear that she knew her business and she gave me several ideas that I had not even thought about.  I told her that I would definitely recommend her to friends and I will very likely use her again myself for my next home project!

"This repair service was the best fix-it experience I have ever had. The servicemen arrived exactly at the time we had agreed upon, brought the tools and supplies they needed. They repaired the air return that I had called about; better than it was originally, ensuring that the problem wouldn't happen again. The job was finished so quickly and expertly that I ask if they did plumbing repair, also. I had a dripping faucet that a plumber had told me would have to be replaced at a cost of about $200.00 plus a service call. Mr. Smith said to let him take a look at it; and he repaired it in about ten minutes. The cost of both jobs was a fraction of what I had been quoted for just a service call to access the problems. Both servicemen were very professional and respectable & didn't leave a mess. I will recommend them to anyone that needs service or repairs to their home and will definitely call on them again when things happen, around the house, as they always seem to do. I have never written a review for professionals before; but I was so impressed with these gentlemen I felt the need. I am also grateful for the HomeAdvisor service."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Professional remodelers streamline the process, manage permits, and handle renovations efficiently—significantly mitigating risk while maintaining standards.

Joists and beams are both part of the flooring system above your basement, with the beams spanning the length of your home and getting support from vertical posts underneath, and joists usually spanning half the width of your home with no support posts underneath. The floor joists provide even support to the subflooring and flooring above, and they distribute that load to the beams. The beams then distribute that load down through the support posts to the foundation.

Building up by adding square footage to the top of your home is often less expensive than adding a basement, but it depends on the specifics of your house, your property, and supply costs. Because building a basement requires excavation, it can be a more expensive option than building up.

You technically can paint wires in a basement ceiling, but there are several important safety and code considerations. It's safe to paint non-metallic sheathed cable as long as the labeling remains visible. You can also paint low-voltage wires and conduit and junction boxes to help them blend into your basement.

However, you should not paint damaged or deteriorated wiring is a fire hazard because it poses a fire hazard. The same goes for painting over high-heat wires that connect to heat-generating appliances or systems. Be sure to avoid painting multiple coats onto any wires, as that traps heat and poses fire risks.

There are several small, inexpensive upgrades you can make to upgrade your basement. Although you still need to adhere to building codes and obtain permits when necessary, you can complete small but mighty tasks like painting the masonry walls and installing entertainment devices to make the space more usable.
