As a homeowner for 30 years, this company provided the worst service I have ever had. This company posted an offer of $99 for $200 worth of electrical service. I had two existing fans that I wanted changed out. I had purchased the fans and all the necessary parts. This job was simply unhooking the existing fans and wiring and hooking up the new fan and wiring. It was clear from the beginning that the electrician did not want to provide $200 worth of labor. He quoted a price of $300 for the "job" of changing out two fans! When I showed him the Angie's list coupon, he said he wouldn't quote the price of labor. He was rude and yelled at me to the point that my son came out of his room because he thought the guy was going to get violent. They immediately took down their offer. So buyers beware! They don't want to charge you by the hour, because they can't justify their prices! They are obviously trying to rip off customers! The electrican that did the job who was willing to just charge me for his labor, charged $129. One of their employees said they don't like the Angie's list coupons cause they don't make enough money on them. My opinion, this company overcharges and doesn't want to honor the savings the consumer is supposed to receive from an Angie's list coupon.

Response from Mr. Electric of Central Oklahoma
At Mr. Electric we use a flat rate pricing guide so that every customer is treated the same whether there is a Mercedes or a Ford parked in their driveway. We also do all of our work to comply with Local and National Codes. When we do special offers through Angie's List, or through other sites we are very specific about what we are offering. We take the recommendations of the Angie's List representatives that we work with to present an offer to our customers and their members that is clear in what the offer includes and is truly a great deal for the customer. In this case the offer was for $200 worth of electrical services for $99, a savings of $101. The offer makes some suggestions as to how it could be used, and of course listed some restrictions as well. There is also a limited amount of time that the offer is available. We do not determine when offers end, we only determine when they start. All of this is worked out with the help of the great people at Angie's List, and I'm sure they would be glad to verify these details. As to the specifics of our call to this home, I can relate what the Service Professional related to me. He followed our customer service procedures by parking in the street and not in the drive. He approached the door by coming up the drive, not crossing the lawn, knocked on the door, in case there was a child or a nighttime worker sleeping, he put down a mat to clean his shoes, and put covers on his shoes in order to protect the customers floors. He looked at the customers project and explained to her that current National and Local Codes REQUIRE that a ceiling fan be installed on an outlet box that has been tested, (Underwriters Laboratory), for the support of a ceiling fan and because of the age of their home it was very possible that the existing outlet boxes would have to be changed. He agreed to write a quote to remove two ceiling fans, and replace two switches. He was told that the existing ceiling fans were going to be moved to a new/different home, so there needed to be greater care taken in removing them and keeping all parts together. After preparing the quote the Service Professional went over it with the owner. When it became obvious that there was not going to be an agreement to complete the work the Service Professional said that he and his apprentice would leave. He was told that he "was not going anywhere" until she had talked to someone at his office. He responded by saying, You can't detain us". and proceeded to leave amidst threats of being sued. As they walked to the door a man appeared behind the home owner, (her son?), and along with her followed them to the door. Both the Service Professional and his apprentice were pretty shaken by the encounter. I spoke to them only minutes after they had left the house. I can certainly understand someone not being in agreement with a price for products or services, but civilized people shouldn't threaten someone simply because they don't like a price they have been given, they should simply say "No thank you".

I asked for a quote for 3 light fixtures to be installed and was quoted $786 for the job because my bathrooms did not have electrical boxes behind the fixtures and they would have to be installed before the fixture could be as this is a code issue. This seemed clearly over the top to me so I told the tech that I wanted to get someone else to do the work for me. Another electrician came later that day and did the same work for $132 and I even added a 4th light fixture to the job (and that is with them adding electrical boxes in the bathrooms). I feel like this was an attempt to take advantage of a woman who might not know better. I would be highly skeptical of any quotes they give. I'm sure their work is fine but they are probably charging about 6 times more than other electricians in the area so just be sure and get other quotes before you hire them.

The new fixture was installed fine. The problem with our ceiling light was identified, but could not be repaired that day. I didn't feel I received $200 worth of electrical services. We also paid $99 for a complete evaluation of the electric wiring throughout the house. The evaluation performed was comprehensive and explained thoroughly, but the estimate for the repairs were very high.

He was exceptionally professional. He explained what he was doing, felt comfortable making suggestions but wasn't condescending, put his mat out front and wiped his feet, cleaned up after each job and the work was of the highest quality. We will definitely use him again.
Description of Work: 1. Replace a ceiling fan. He was careful to be sure that the correct structure was available and had been used. Didn't try to sell us what wasn't needed. 2. Put up lights in two bathrooms. He pointed out how close to the top of the mirror one of the lights would be and moved it up 2-3 inches to provide clearance. 3. He put in an outside plug, walking around with us to find the best place. He did a couple of other minor repairs while he was there.

I certainly recommend him to anybody. He came out, looked at what needed to be done, and gave us an estimate ans the we could even decided to let him do it or not and he won't charge us for him coming out, so we did have that option. He was efficient, very professional, worked all the time he was here, and left.

Bob came out to give a quote and described the process in complete detail. The actual job went exactly as he described. Due to a weather-related travel problem the carpet man was delayed so Bob quickly arranged for a replacement so the sawing and other work could be done on time. Despite that start-up delay the job was done on schedule. The brass floor outlets look great, are solidly installed and I am confident the job was done right.
Description of Work: Had two floor outlets installed in our great room. This was a big job since it required running conduit beneath a slab foundation. Bob was the electrician and also scheduled the other workers neded for this job.

We had an estimate including all the items we needed done. We had a bathroom heater fan replaced, 1 ceiling fan replaced, 1 light fixture replaced with a fan/light, a spotlight replaced with a track light, 2 additional outlets installed in the garage, several outlets in the kitchen replaced with modern ones. Our tech worked steadily and without rushing. It took him 2 full days and they honored the exact estimate. He had to replace the boxes on both of the ceiling fan units so he had to go into the hot attic. We are very pleased with the work.

The representative was very thorough and clearly concerned to do everything right and up-to-code. I would have been very comfortable having his company do the work, but the price was much higher (about $5500) than the other bid I received (about $3000). I think this was due to his pricing scheme, which works on a "menu system" rather than by time and materials. The menu system meant he was calculating about seventeen separate charges for extending seventeen circuits, even though the circuits would all be extended in the same place, which would have been much easier than extending seventeen separate circuits randomly located throughout the house. I would contact him again for a smaller or a different job; his pricing just didn't seem to make sense for this kind of job.
Description of Work: Mr. Electric's owner (I think) gave me a written estimate for replacing a breaker panel, relocating it outside, and extending all the circuits to reach the new panel location.

Response from Mr. Electric of Central Oklahoma
I would like to thank the member for his comments. It was obvious during our conversation that he was a knowledgeable homeowner and if I remember had done some electrical work with a relative in the past. All of our pricing is in fact done using a Menu Price Guide,(MPG), we do this for several reasons. It allows us to give a quote for work to be done and then proceed with the work immediately upon approval in most cases. We find that with the busy schedules people have even the customer that works at home typically has limited time to spend waiting for a service professional, then setting aside time at a later date to complete repairs or a new installation. Most service companies will have one person come out to look at the requested work, then schedule another time to actually come out and do the work. Unless a project requires more than 3-4 hours we can usually do the work at the same time we give the quote. Another benefit to the consumer is that using the MPG insures that every customer is paying the same price for like work. I know for a fact that there are companies that have different prices for different neighborhoods, using the MPG eliminates that type of pricing. Using the MPG also insures that there are no "ballparks" in our pricing. What does that mean? Many times a customer will inquire about the cost to do a project or task by asking "Just give me a ballpark price", well with the MPG we don't give "ballpark" pricing, or estimates, we give the customer a quote, and as long as there are no requested changes or additions by the customer the quote is the price. If there are unforeseen issues that arise we don't come back to the customer and say "Wow!! That was harder than I thought it was going to be, we're going to have to bump up that estimate a little." With MPG pricing that does not happen. We recently installed a generator for a customer, and had the installation inspected by the city inspector. A few months later we did virtually the same installation for another customer and a different city inspector required that we install an additional piece of equipment which cost us $2K, we did this at no additional cost to the customer, and went back to the first customer and added the same equipment there. Again I would like to thank the member for his comments.

Always get 3 bids and if it is something that needs the city inspector make sure they have experience with the inspectors that will be coming out to your property.
Description of Work: I was getting 3 bids to put a new electric panel in the house and update wiring for sale of house. Mr. electrics bid was $2000 more than the other 2 bids and they did not go look in my attic and they indicated that they would just charge me per junction box that needed to be installed in the attic at $100 plus per box. I had over 30 put in the attic and that was not even on Mr. electrics bid. It is a franchise so I would avoid those at all cost because they are not as likely to be flexialble on the price.

Response from Mr. Electric of Central Oklahoma
We appreciate the response. As in any other service business there can be a great disparity in pricing for the same service or product, if this were not so we would all be driving a Yugo,(after all they did have 4 wheels and an engine.) Some times pricing can separate one service company from another and some times it does not. 30+ junction boxes in an attic means that there are 30+ more opportunities for an electrical fault that could result in tragedy. The overwhelming source of electrical failures is at an electrical connection. The points of electrical connections must be done properly and with the approved connectors. While it is not a code violation to have an electrical junction box, it is always better to limit the number of splices/junctions so as to limit the potential fault sources. While covering each junction and limiting the number of conductors to code allowances is acceptable, removing the junction by rewiring would be a better and safer option. The home owner must also consider that the code enforcement professional can not open every junction box and examine all the connections to determine their safety. Simply having a city inspection is no guarantee of the quality or safety of the work performed.

See above. Bob is also a very pleasant and professional person to deal with. His wife answers all phone calls and makes the appointments and she is also extremely pleasant and professional. His services are on the expensive side but well worth it. A very good experience overall. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Our ceiling fans (we have 6 of them) were wobbling a bit and we wanted them checked out since we have a new baby. Bob came by, inspected each fan and told us that one of them needed a proper fan box which it did not have. He assured us that the others were fine. He gave us a quote from a printed folder and after getting my OK, proceeded to quickly and professionally install the fan box taking extra care to minimize the dust spread around. The work was excellent and he evidently knows his trade very well.
