"After checking Angie's List, I contacted Tip Top Tree Service for an estimate by email.  I received a very prompt response and the gentleman come out the same day to give me an estimate.  We walked around together and he indicated which branches and trees should be trimmed to protect our home and large outbuilding.  I asked him for an estimate and he indicated that due to the large equipment involved, they charged a daily rate of $2000. I reminded him of the advertised discount for Angie's List users and he indicated a rate of $1850.  I asked him when the work could be done and he indicated the next day or the day after that at worst.  Based on the promptness of service I agreed to the deal.  When the crew arrived at about 11:00 AM 2 days later the leader asked me what the job entailed.  He knew nothing of what the original representative had indicated, so I walked around the buildings with him again and he had some different ideas of what should be cut.  I had no real problem with that, although it would have been nice if the crew had communicated with the representative.  About 4 hours later the crew was done and the bill was $1850.  If the rate was really a day rate, I would have expected an offer to do additional work- I had a lot of additional tree work that could have been done.  During the trimming a lot of limbs were dropped on the roof making considerable noise and causing concern about possible roof damage.  I'm too old to go up on the roof to check, but we've had no leaks during recent precipitation.  I feel that the service was misrepresented and overpriced.

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

There are several signs that can indicate your leach lines are broken, failing, or in need of repair, including puddles of water or a marshy consistency to the ground above or around the pipes, slow drainage or plumbing backups inside your home, and noticeable odors or gurgling sounds coming from your leach field. Keeping your septic system properly maintained, including having your septic tank pumped at regular intervals, can help ensure your leach lines stay in good working order for a long time.

To unclog the drain pipe, remove the machine's drain hose from the pipe or sink drain, being careful to contain any water in it. Next, use a plunger for sink drains or a plumbing snake for a wall drain. Test the repair by pouring a small amount of water into the pipe before trying it with a laundry load.

There are several common signs that your main sewer line may be clogged. Key indicators include multiple fixtures in your home draining slowly, gurgling sounds coming from drains or toilets, and water backing up into showers, sinks, or toilets. You might also notice water backing up from the plumbing system's drain cleanout, water in your basement drain, or unexplained wet patches on your lawn. Foul odors, such as the smell of raw sewage or rotten eggs, are another common symptom. The most reliable way to confirm a main sewer line clog is to hire a professional plumber to perform a camera inspection.

It is not advisable to use drain cleaner in a washing machine. Drain cleaners contain harsh chemicals that can damage the internal components of your washer, including rubber seals, hoses, and even the drum. These chemicals can also react with any residual detergent or fabric softener, potentially leading to noxious fumes. If your washing machine is experiencing drainage issues, it's best to address the problem directly by inspecting and cleaning the lint filter, checking for clogs in the drain hose, or seeking professional repair services. Using drain cleaner in a washing machine is a risky solution that can cause more harm than good.

In most areas, drain cleaning professionals don’t technically need a license, as they aren’t altering your plumbing system in any way. However, we recommend hiring a drain cleaning professional with a plumbing license and certification. Certified plumbers are more likely to provide professional solutions to drain clogs without damaging your system. They’ll also have the diagnostic tools and experience necessary to remove the clog entirely rather than providing a temporary solution, as a handyperson might. Use Angi’s state licensing tool to check your plumber’s professional licenses before hiring.
