Contacted to say this is unacceptable, and wants another $2,000.00 to fix. Let prices to rub against house. No communication during install to say hey, this or that. Stay very clear of this company."

Not cleaning your gutters could lead to serious problems, including leaks, water-damaged siding and fascia, and foundation damage and leaking. The leaves and debris that clog your gutters create the ideal environment for mold and mildew, which can eventually rot the fascia board.

Water will start to leak and overflow, which could damage your roof or other areas of your home. You may notice pooling in your yard, which can freeze and damage your driveway or patio. Cleaning your gutters at least once or twice a year is best to avoid expensive repairs and replacements.

Fewer joints mean less leaking, better aesthetics, and reduced maintenance.

Absolutely—and lots of it. Overflowing water from your gutters can damage your siding and your roof. All of the moisture getting into the cracks and crevices of your home can lead to mold or mildew problems down the line. In addition, when water pools around your home, it needs a place to go—and sometimes it ends up inside the house, creating a very unwanted flood.

If you’re not interested in digging up your yard, but you still need to direct water away from your house, another option is to extend your downspouts further out into the yard. Two methods to do this are:

  • Adding a splashguard. This is the simplest method. You can purchase a splashguard at your local hardware store and place it under your downspout. This will act as a funnel to direct water away from your house.

  • Add downspout extension at the end. You can also add an additional downspout to the end of the “elbow” as a way to extend the water further out into your yard. Some hardware stores sell downspouts with a flexible extension that you can maneuver around your yard.

The above alternatives are great options if your gutters are above a slab foundation that you wouldn’t want to dig up. One downside to these methods is if your yard slopes back upwards to your home, then the water won’t actually flow away. In which case, burying your downspouts if the best option to avoid flooding and water damage to your home.

Several options for hanging Christmas lights won't damage gutters. Using shingle clips avoids any hardware contact with them, and using plastic gutter clips minimizes the likelihood of scratching gutters. Remember not to rest a ladder, especially a metal one, against the gutters, and use a ladder stand-off device or stabilizer if you need to use an extension ladder.
