"I removed old carpet and padding from the living and dining rooms. The hardwood flooring had beautiful grain and character, but also a lot of damage. Kevin Teppo described the process and what results I could realistically expect. It wasn't a lost cause, but it would not be like new either. He was more optimistic about the results than I. He pointed out the crack in the ceiling and that there was no quarter-round on the woodwork, both of which his crew could take care of. There was no pressure to sign or up-selling. I appreciated that.
They were able to start on the job earlier than expected, which was perfect. I removed everything from both rooms.
Evening before sanding: They taped and plastered the ceiling crack. I applied two coats of paint. That was not expected of me but I had the time. It was one less thing for them to do the next morning.
Day 1: Three man crew arrived on time, sanded the floors and applied the walnut stain. I was warned about the fumes, so I boarded my dog for this time frame. The doorways were sealed with plastic to keep the fumes contained as well as possible.
Day 2-4: Sanding and a coat of polyurethane, 3 coats total. The crew arrived on time and were very efficient and polite.
Day 5: Quarter-round was installed. They moved the dining room table and TV stand back into the rooms. Job complete.
