Mills Fence Company

We signed a contract on 6/4/07, but they failed to show up when promised. Several phone calls were made to their company representative. Finally, installers came and did the work, but not until I threatened to take my business elsewhere. The installers did not complete the work and once again I called to find out when they would return. I even went to their office to explain what had not been completed. To date (9/5/07), they still have not installed the proper strong arm latch and our hinged gate still is being locked with our old chain and padlock.

Doing our research, they were the best price in town for the product since they are also a supplier.

Estimate was done extremely quickly and professionally, but they refused to give dates for the work. This is somewhat understandable given the job is dependent on the weather, however they wouldn't even given an estimated date until after we signed a contract. I wasn't comfortable signing a contract without at least an estimated date, so decided not to go with them even though their pricing was extremely competitive.

I called them for an estimate and was told someone would come out. I had to call them again after about five days. They came out and gave us a proposal on 12/7/06. I signed the proposal and mailed it to them, but didn't hear anything. I called them again and they said someone would call to set an appointment. Joel called on 12/19 and said he'd come on 12/20 between 1:00 and 3:00 P.M. He never came or called. I called the office and was told to call Ray who is in charge of the workers. He said he'd have Joel call. He didn't. I called the office again the next morning. They said they'd have Ray or Joel call that day and do the work that day. Joel finally came and did a good job replacing the fence posts and rails. We received an invoice on 12/29, and we were charged an extra $18.00 for two extra rails that we knew nothing about and could not find on our fence. The office told me to call Ray and I left a message for him. He called us on 1/2 telling us to pay the quoted amount.

I ask them to redo the estimate because the cost was so high compared to three of their competitors. He said it was correct and told me I should go with the other competitors, since the price is so good. Their competitors prices ranged from $1900-2200. Big difference. We're going with one of the other fence builders in the area. Mills must be lining the fence with gold.

They didn't exactly arrive on the date promised, but their installer did (to his credit) call me each time with an explanation and a re-schedule date. They asked for 1/2 down which I told them to put on my credit card, but they never did this. (OK...that worked better for me). I think they try hard when it comes to scheduling and payment, but back room operations don't seem to be their specialty. That's OK since I hired them to install a fence, not run my business...LOL. Would use again.

The job looks beautiful. Pleased with the result. One problem was lack of getting information as to when the work might be scheduled (estimate was very fast after initial call), but after a second call it was done the following day. We are pleased.

All contacts with Ashley in office, Ray Ard/estimator, to Todd and Ryan the installers....courteous, prompt, and professional. From first phone call requesting estimate to completion of job was 11 days. (and a three day Labor Day weekend occurred during that time!!). Results were an appealing, well constructed fence. Four different neighbors called or stopped by to comment on the work/job and requested names and numbers for the installers for possible future use. Todd and Ryan worked non-stop and did excellent work....never saw them take a break! Job was done on time..as promised, even though I was hesitant because I was leaving for an extended time and had planned on scheduling installation for when I returned. They assured me they could/would and DID entirely complete job before I left town! Very pleasant experience. Would not hesitate to use again or recommend..especially Todd the installer.

Despite being told it would take 7-10 days for them to be able to fix the fence, they were here two days later on a Saturday morning. They did a very thorough job and cleaned up completely. We are very satisfied with their work, and their price was the cheapest of the three estimates we got.

Couldn't ask for anything better. The quick response and professional job was great. We will use Mills again if we ever need more fence.

The crew arrived early & had most of the old fence torn out by mid-morning. This is a big yard & they had to work around trees that had been allowed to grow/overgrow through the fence. They cleaned everything up & hauled the debris away. By the time I got home from work everything was done. I would definitely recommend this company.

Ray came out and evaluated the property, discussed the best overall options. After he measured the length of fence needed he gave me an estimate. I approved the estimate and was called to set up an installation date. It was installed within 8 days.

THE PRICE WAS GOOD ($500 LESS THAN THEIR COMPETITOR), AND THE WORKMEN COURTEOUS, PROMPT, AND EFFICIENT. WE ARE GENERALLY HAPPY WITH THE END RESULT; HOWEVER, SOME PICKETS ARE PRETTY ROUGH LOOKING, THE WORKMAN BROKE THE HANDLE OF OUR GARDEN FAUCET, AND THE DOUBLE-SWING GATE SANK AND STOPPED LATCHING AFTER 2 MONTHS. WE LET THE ISSUE WITH THE FAUCET GO, BUT WE CALLED ABOUT THE GATE PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME WE CALLED, WE WERE TOLD SOMEONE WOULD BE OUT IN 7-10 DAYS; 3 WEEKS LATER, WE CALLED AGAIN AND WERE TOLD THAT THE REPAIR WAS ON THEIR LIST OF JOBS AND SOMEONE WOULD BE OUT SOON; 2 MONTHS AND 4 PHONE CALLS LATER, WE WERE PUT THROUGH ONCE AGAIN TO SOMEONE WHO SEEMED TO HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF OUR PROBLEM AND ASKED EXACTLY WITH WHOM AT MILLS WE HAD DISCUSSED THE MATTER. WHEN WE SAID WE HAD SPOKEN TO HIM 3 TIMES, HE SEEMED TAKEN ABACK AND SAID HE WOULD SEND SOMEONE OUT RIGHT AWAY. THE REPAIR WAS DONE WITHIN THE WEEK. WHILE NOT DISSATISFIED, WE WERE NOT QUITE AS IMPRESSED AS EXPECTED.

THE CONTACT AT MILLS WAS VERY COURTEOUS AND HELPFUL. THE CONTRACTORS DID A GOOD JOB, AND WERE FRIENDLY. BUT, WHEN THEY WERE LEAVING, THEY RAN OVER MY MAILBOX. THEY STUCK THE TOP HALF OF THE POST BACK IN THE GROUND AND PROMISED TO BE BACK TO REPLACE IT. THEY DIDN'T COME BACK. I CALLED MILLS, AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD REPLACE IT, BUT IT'S A MONTH, AND IT STILL HASN'T BEEN REPLACED.

THE FIRST DAY, A FEW OF THE SUPPORT BEAMS WERE INSTALLED, BUT THEN NO ONE SHOWED UP FOR FIVE DAYS. TWICE WE WERE TOLD THEY'D BE OUT TO FINISH THE FENCE AND NO ONE SHOWED UP. WHEN THEY RETURNED TO FINISH THE WORK, THEY INSTALLED SIX FOOT BOARDS TWO FEET OFF THE GROUND, RATHER THAN INSTALLING THE 8 FOOT BOARDS THAT WERE REQUESTED. WE HAD TWO GATES, ONE FOUR FEET HIGH, AND ONE SIX FEET HIGH. TWO SIX FOOT GATES WERE DELIVERED, SO ONE WAS CUT DOWN AND PATCHED WITH PRESSURE TREATED WOOD RATHER THAN CEDAR. THE LATCH ON THE SECOND GATE WAS INSTALLED SO THE LOCK IS FACING OUT ON THE STREET. THE BACK OF THE FENCE WAS INSTALLED TO FACE THE STREET ON THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE. THE MANAGER OF OUR PROJECT WAS CALLED SEVERAL TIMES AND WE DIDN'T RECEIVE A RETURN PHONE CALL. I CALLED TO SPEAK TO THE OWNER, ONLY TO FIND THAT HE WAS OUR PROJECT MANAGER AND THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE TO TALK TO. HE NEVER VISITED THE SITE TO REVIEW THE ERRORS. THE LOCK ON THE FRONT GATE IS STILL BACKWARD TO THIS DATE.

THE PRICE WAS GOOD. THEY SENT OUT TWO GUYS WHO DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THEY WERE DOING. WHILE GETTING THE POSTS OUT OF THE CONCRETE, THEY BEAT THEM WITH A MALLET. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO REMOVE THE POSTS AND FILL THEM WITH FINISH CONCRETE, BUT THEY FILLED THEM WITH A REALLY ROCKY CONCRETE, SO IT DIDN'T LOOK RIGHT. I HAD TO HAVE SOMEONE COME OUT TO FOLLOW UP BECAUSE THE FENCE WASN'T LEVEL, AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE ONE OF THE POSTS TO FIX THAT. WHEN THEY WERE BEATING ON THE POSTS, THEY DAMAGED SOME OF THE CONCRETE ALONG THE PATIO, SO THAT WILL BE HAVE TO BE FIXED, TOO. THEY LEFT A BIG MESS IN OUR YARD AND DID NOT CLEAN UP AFTER THEMSELVES. THEY LEFT A LONG RAIL LEANING UP AGAINST THE DOWN SPOUT IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE.

RESPONSIVENESS WAS QUICK, AND SALESMAN WAS VERY HELPFUL IN GETTING TO WHAT I REALLY WANTED/NEEDED. THE PRICE WAS RIGHT, BUT FOUND OUT FROM THE CITY THAT ZONING WOULD NOT ALLOW THE WORK TO BE PERFORMED AFTER ALL.

VERY FAST, VERY EFFICIENT, HARD WORKERS. A PLEASURE WITH WHICH TO DO BUSINESS.

THE PRICE WAS REASONABLE. EVEN THOUGH IT WAS MORE THAN A MONTH SINCE OUR ESTIMATE, OUR QUOTED PRICE WAS HONORED. THE MAN WHO PUT UP THE FENCE WAS ON TIME AND CAREFUL. HE EVEN FIXED MY MAILBOX FOR NO EXTRA CHARGE! THE ONLY PROBLEM WE HAD WAS CIGARETTES ON THE GROUND. MY HUSBAND OFFERED AN ASHTRAY, BUT THE MAN DECLINED AND NEVER SMOKED AGAIN ON THE PREMISES. EVERYTHING WAS CLEANED UP BEAUTIFULLY, HE EVEN PUT SOME OF THE TOPSOIL ON A LOW AREA AT THE GATE ENTRANCE. I'M VERY PLEASED WITH THE WORK!

WE WILL CALL MILLS SHOULD WE DECIDE TO BUILD A FENCE.

MILLS FENCE DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB. WE CHOSE THEM BASED ON ANGIE'S LIST AND WE WERE VERY HAPPY WITH THE WORK THEY PERFORMED.

THEY CAME RIGHT AWAY TO GIVE AN ESTIMATE AND DID WHAT THEY SAID THEY WOULD AT THE PRICE THEY QUOTED. IT DID HOWEVER TAKE THEM A WHILE TO GET THE FENCING MATERIAL. I HAD TO CALL SEVERAL TIMES TO SEE WHEY THEY HAD NOT ARRIVED, BUT I AM NOT SURE IF IT WAS THEIR FAULT.

THE COMPANY NEVER CALLED BACK TO GIVE AN ESTIMATE OR SCHEDULE A MEETING.

BILL WAS GREAT IN TAKING THE TIME TO WORK WITH ME ABOUT CHOOSING WHAT WAS THE BEST PLAN AND WORKING WITH ME AS I CHANGED MY MIND SEVERAL TIMES. THE CREWS WERE PUNCTUAL AND PROFESSIONAL. ATTENTION TO DETAIL WAS VERY GOOD AND THERE WAS NO MESS AFTERWARDS. I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE WORK AND KNOW I CAN COUNT ON THEM SHOULD I HAVE ANY FUTURE NEEDS OR ISSUES.

THE JOB WAS DELAYED BECAUSE THEIR EQUIPMENT BROKE DOWN, BUT IT WAS COMPLETED TO OUR SATISFACTION.
