"Zack is polite, attentive, and works hard to determine where the pest is able to enter my home. When he couldnâ t find a suitable chimney cap, he totally renovated the current one and even painted it to match the roof. I highly recommend him!"

"He was friendly, hardworking and did a great job! He did a great job of cleaning up any messes as he went along. He pulled out my wood stove to clean the super dirty chimney. He cut off the back legs of the stove to get it to fit better, gave me a ton of advice on how to seal it up better (Iâ m pretty handy and do a lot of repair on my own), put the stove back in and cleaned the glass for me! He did a great job and we had some great conversations as he was working. VERY affordable too! I highly recommend him!"

Chimney Sweep FAQs, answered by experts

Depending on who’s doing the estimating, about 22,000 to 25,000 chimney fires happen each year in the United States. Given the fact that millions of Americans have fireplaces (and chimneys), that means chimney fires aren’t exactly common—but they’re not rare, either. Since they’re so dangerous, it’s important to take precautions to prevent them.

The timeline for smoke damage remediation can range from a single day to several months, depending on the extent of the damage, the size of the affected area, and the methods used. For minor damage, such as removing cigarette smoke odors from a single room, the process might take only one to two days and typically involves deep cleaning, painting, and sealing walls. Some methods, like ozone treatments, can take 24 to 48 hours, though multiple treatments may be necessary. More extensive smoke damage, such as from a house fire, can take three weeks or longer to clean and treat. If significant material restoration or replacement is needed, the timeline can extend to six to 12 months. A smoke damage restoration professional can provide a more accurate estimate for your specific situation.

To get rid of the smoke smell in a microwave, scrape off any burnt food residue and throw it away. Next, warm a cup of water in a microwave-safe container for three minutes. Then, dip a microfiber cloth into a mixture of water and a couple of drops of dish soap and wipe down the inside of the microwave. Dry the inside of the microwave with a fresh cloth and let everything air out for three hours.

If your oven is new, then it’s likely that the oven smoking is due to it being a new unit. In this case, you don’t need to worry about the oven smoking. However, if your oven is old, you can’t identify any burnt food or grease that could be behind the smoking, or you have concerns about the heating element, then you should hire an oven technician to inspect your unit.

Hard materials like glass, metal, and hardwood floors, washable fabrics, and undamaged electrical appliances can often be salvaged after a fire, although it depends on the extent of the damage. For washable fabrics, make sure to use a phosphate mix during the washing process to extract the smoke smell. There are a few things you should throw away after a fire, like canned foods and cosmetics, even if they don’t look like they’re damaged.
