Mike showed up as promised and did a thorough assessment. He found the root of the problem and his team took care of removing all the mold. He opened the wall to allow the plumber easy access to fix the leak. He gave us a lot of suggestions for making the house dryer and prevent the return of the mold. When they were done, they cleaned up after themselves! Excellent job!!!

Michael is a very trustworthy man, passionate about his field of expertise. He is not pushy and doesn't even charge to come inspect the home! The other people I called wanted $230 just to look at the basement. In his own words, Michael is "not an alarmist" either. While we definitely will need remediation, he told us to first try to do other things to resolve the foundation issues. He even took a look outside at our driveway and gutters and gave suggestions on how to minimize the amount of water that comes in the house during heavy rains. Following the discovery of a leak in our crawl space, another environmental service company took air samples that showed high levels of toxic mold all over our house. We found Michael Shain?s company on Angie?s List. He came when promised and carefully examined the situation, and then drew up a plan to deal with the problem. Where the initial report recommended ripping out walls and floors and furnishing on both the basement and first floor, Michael focused on the immediate source of the problem in the basement. After removing carpet and walls his crew spent two days scrubbing down the whole area (they also set up negative air machines in the basement and hepa air filters in the rest of the house) and a week later a new air sample showed normal air levels. He also gave us a plan to keep the mold from coming back. I would enthusiastically recommend Michael Shain and his company to anyone with a mold problem.

The person I spoke to was quick on responding to me when I left a message. They kept their appointment time. They were very thorough. A committed contractor. Very professional and also gave us some valuable information to look forward to. They were very good. They were excellent. I had noticed a dark water mark on the wall and a damp area on part of the floor of my basement. I also detected a musty, damp smell in the basement. I spoke with Michael Shain of NY Air Quality Solutions and from our first conversation felt confident that he would be able to test, diagnose, and remediate if necessary any mold or air quality issue I might have. Mr. Shain proved to be not only a skilled and knowledgeable professional but a gentleman as well. We arranged a day and time for him to come and take samples at my home and he was prompt, courteous, and educated me during the whole process. I received a copy of the air quality report exactly when he said I could expect it and he followed it up with a conversation explaining it in detail which I greatly appreciated. As suspected, I did have a mold problem and required remediation. I decided to use NY Air Quality Solutions for the remediation as well. Mr. Shain's price quote was very competitive and I felt very confident about his treatment plan. On the day of the scheduled treatment I was very concerned and nervous. It went great - Mike Shain is wonderful! Everything he said was going to be done, was done. He ended up pulling in another worker to help because my general contractor did not remove any of the nails/screws that were still in the walls and floors. My house is gutted to the 4' mark so it was alot more work for Mike to do.The general contractor was paid to do that but he did not. Mike brought the extra worker at no extra charge to me. He is willing to wait for my insurance payment. I highly recommend this company. His price was reasonable.

After Hurricane Sandy, I understood that I would need mold remediation done in my home. There were many trucks driving up and down the blocks in my area offering such services. I proceeded to do some online research and had five estimates. It was amazing to learn of the several different approaches each one would use. The most interesting seemed to be heating up my home to 160 degrees to kill the mold that is the temperature at which point mold can be killed. I had visited a mold specialist at FEMA who expressed his dismay at the many companies charging large sums of money and not doing the jobs correctly, and the heating technique was not an answer to the mold problem that the government would recommend. I knew immediately when I met Michael Shain that he would do the job. His educational background about mold and it's effects on health, his passion for sharing his knowledge by giving courses to contractors and working closely with doctors at Winthrop Hospital, was quite impressive. He explained step by step how the process would be done. First, the upstairs of my home would be closed off from spreading of the toxic air. There was significant debris left by other workers in my home which Michael and his crew bagged neatly and put in front of my house. Part of my flooring needed to be ripped out which was taken care of. They power vacuumed the place with a huge machine which expelled the toxic are through a tremendous hose out the window. The mold -scrubbing process was followed by two coats of high quality biocide followed. For the two days that it took to compete the job, I was back and forth to the house during which time 2 of the workers remained under the house scrubbing the joists and beams. Whenever I was there and had questions, Mike gave clear answers which I could understand; he is a good teacher! I simply feel that everything which needed to be done was done. Mike's enthusiasm and pride which exudes from him in an obvious manner speaks volumes of who he is and how important it is to his customers as well as to him to do the job correctly. Besides all of the good work, Mike is a wonderful and caring person who goes above and beyond. He even noticed a problem with my front door and fixed it for me. Also, he had suggested that I might want to have someone look at my pipes under the house. I followed his advice, and found that there is piping which is not in good shape. This saved me a few thousand dollars that I was going to spend for a 2 zone heating system which would be foolish to do with bad piping. There is no doubt that the air in my house is drastically different than it was before NY Air Quality Solutions appeared. It is now clear and fresh. This company is the #1 choice in my opinion for air quality issues without a doubt.

After a horrible experience with a contractor, I decided to try Angie's List services in that I wanted guidance as to how to obtain a mold expert for remediation. After Sandy any mold contractor that I contacted wanted to be paid up front, even without looking at what the work entailed. I got rail roaded by a contractor who charged me 4,800 just to demolish a part of he affected area. In my desperation to get the work started and mold stopped, I paid that contractor and then realized that I needed an expert. I got Mike Shain through Angies List and I could not be happier. Although it was my intent to get other estimates, upon meeting Mike Shain I knew he was the right person for the job. I hired him and could not be happier with the results.

I contact Michael via email and he got back to me within the hour. He set up a time to walk me through the process of a mold inspection over the phone. During this call, he carefully answered each of my questions and offered lots of advice free of charge. We later set up a time for him to come do the mold inspection. He was on time and the price he quoted me was exactly what I paid. He was then very nice and careful to answer any questions throughout the inspection and the follow up. When the results came in. He sent them through immediately and explained to me what all the numbers meant. I would highly recommend this company for a mold inspection.

Four days later as promised he returned a professional written report with the test results and a detailed explanation. In addition he got on the phone with me for about 30 minutes and took the time to review the findings with me and make some recommendations. Although he also does the remediation work needed, he suggested I get some other quotes first from competitors, so I would feel comfortable he was giving me best price and options. I have just started the process of getting other quotes but will certainly go back to Michael for his quote because I felt very comfortable working and talking with him. He was on time, addressed our trouble within a week and also spent his day off performing all of this work. He educated us along the way and made us feel very confident in his expertise. He is a very kind man and does this, not for himself, but for people who are experiencing illness in their own homes and businesses, caused by bad air quality from mold, dust, etc. His co-workers were kind and polite ( a reflection of Mr. Shain) and the job was done quickly and very well.
