Nichols Electric & Plumbing

After some scheduling challenges and complications in the installation due to the size of the old ventilation fan, the work went smoothly without problems.

The lights, four table lamps, in my living room began flickering. There was no pattern to the occurrences; sometimes they flickered every two minutes and sometimes every twenty minutes or so. I telephone Nichols Electrical for help. Based on my description of the flickering he suggested first that I replace the lamp bulbs. Replacing the bulbs did not stop the flickering. We arranged a time for him to come to my house. He worked systematically and efficiently. He determined that only one circuit was involved and then he checked all the connections at all the outlets and at the circuit box. He removed and examined the circuit breaker for the living room circuit and saw that it was defective. He replaced the breaker. The breaker was the cause of the flickering. The problem was solved.

Good – considering I wanted something more clinical/diagnostic (this was not a home purchase inspection driving the need and I mis-interpreted what was being sold).

I was very pleased with the work. Steve and his son Steven showed up on time and worked tirelessly until the job was completed. I noticed that the external outlet installed was a little loose Steve offered to come out and fix it without question. He seems to be a very honest, straight forward person and very competent electrician. I would highly recommend him for any electrical needs.

My electricity would flicker and/or go out at will. Mr. Nichols was able to identify the problem and its cause, then he told me precisely what to report to the power company so that they would fix their equipment. Once the power company repaired their outside cable the problem was solved. Mr. Nichols was thorough, methodical, and reasonable. I plan to call him in the future for bigger issues.

I would call him again. He came in and did what he said he will gonna do and everything went fine since then. It didn't take too much time for him to do it. His price was a little bit better.

They were very fast with a quote and punctual for the install. Even when there was an unexpected issue with our ceiling they handled it professionally. The install was very fast, and there was less of an impact on the ceiling than expected. I would absolutely recommend them.

We did end up doing business with Nichols Electrical Contracting but we had to get a refund for the Big Deal as the Big Deal was for a ceiling fan where there was a pre-existing ceiling mount (we did not have a pre-existing mount). We were very happy with their work and they were courteous and professional.

Steve call promptly after I had purchased the deal on Angie's List. He set up an appointment to come and look at the work that was needed a couple of days later. We set up a appointment to have the work done, he was prompt neat and the workmanship is top of the line. Thanks to Steve and his son for a wonderful professional experience.

Steve did send a proposal to my old email address -- the proposal looked OK - communication using the old email address was the problem -- followup later cleared up the problem. I plan to use them to do my work this spring.

Mr. Nichols did the work himself, was very punctual and got right to work as soon as he arrived. I would recommend him and use his service again. I can't remember the exact charge but at the time it seems reasonable.

They did a great job and I was very pleased with them. He did a really good job. It was not cheap nor was it outrageous. It was nice because when he came I walked it through and I pointed it out to him a certain work and asked him to redo some things and he did it and that worked out really well. I compared his prices with others and his was very reasonable. He gave me very personable service, they were very clean, he came with his son and he did mostly everything electronically which is nice, I like that and most people do it these days. He had an i Pad and he drew on the i Pad and put everything was to go on it and all the different outlets and stuff and it was very nice.

I had this issue happens three times over the past few weeks. I called Steve and told him the problem. He was just wrapping up a service call and said he could be there in 15-30 minutes. He arrived in about 20 mins.. Steve and Steve Jr. came in, I explained the history of the problem, they got their tools and went to work. Within a couple minutes he determined a bad neutral connection. The two of them went through the room and found the issue to be a bad outlet on a wall in a connecting room. Steve fixed the problem and packed up. Total time for the service was maybe 35 mins. I was impressed with the speed at which both of them worked together, their professionalism and being very personable and easy to talk to. I will definitely be using Nichols Electrical again.

It was not good .Three days late doing the job because his only work vehicle broke down .He did come on a Sunday to do the job .Took about 4 hours to do the job .Cleanup was good. However the same evening I discovered that three rooms had no electric. He did come back to fix that the next day . One week later my kitchen plugs would not work, I had to have it fixed , it was a faulty wire connection . Also the plate in the fuse box did not work properly for my generator use . I so far have not encountered any more problems at this time with the electric .

Steve came a gave us an estimate on Christmas eve and then when we asked if he could move up the install date to accommodate our schedule for listing our home he moved it up two weeks, just to help us out. He and his son were friendly and professional and were more than willing to answer our questions as the work progressed. He was able to finish the work in about three hours.

Called me after I purchased the deal. We made an appointment for them to come out, they came on time, installed a new bathroom ceiling exhaust fan, and cleaned up after themselves. Easy, professional and timely. Everything one can ask of a contractor.

The inspection was nice. We asked them to come back and do other work but we never heard from them. They got the inspection done in about an hour and a half. Everything was okay until they didn’t call us back, and we were very dissatisfied with that. The work that we contracted them for was fine. The electrician was fine.

He showed up on time and performed the job meticulously, neatly and timely. I would not hesitate to hire him in the future.

However, the fine print meant the provider would install it opposite an existing interior electrical box. Since the exterior locations opposite the interior were less then desirable, I requested a different location (I have an older historic house, and aesthetics are important in maintaining its value). The electrician spied an electrical box in the basement to use and charged an extra $20 (above the Big Deal price of $99) for the "special" location. This extra charge was little ridiculous since all it did was cost the provider an extra 3 feet of wire and the rest of the process may have been easier/more convenient. Nonetheless, I am very happy with the exterior electrical box, its location, and I can't even complain about the price since I would have paid more (I may be bit naïve when it comes to these things). Also, a big thanks to the Angie's List Big Deal, without which, I wouldn't have considered adding an exterior electrical box.

Nichols Electric installed 5 recessed lights in my kitchen. He also installed a whole house surge protector and an upstairs bathroom combination light and exhaust fan. They were here ten minutes before their scheduled time and went right to work. I am completely satisfied and would recommend them to anyone. They are clean, professional and knowledgeable.

The installer came to our house on a Saturday because he was booked for the following week. He encountered a couple of unforeseen problems but was able to cope with them and complete the job. His assistant was also capable and personable.

They replaced a bathroom exhaust fan. They were on time, fast and professional.

I was generally pleased with the electrical work that we contracted from Steve Nichols. My only complaint is that, neither Steve nor his son, are well prepared for the unexpected. More specifically, we had exterior lights replaced and the new lights were slightly bigger than the old lights, therefore the part of the new fixture that sets next to the siding is bigger then the old fixture, so we needed a "plate" to set between the new fixture and the siding so that the new bigger lights, could be installed flat against the siding. I bought the new lights and asked Steve to install them, I did not realize the new bigger fixtures needed a "plate" installed behind them simply because I am a homeowner, not an electrician, so I could not anticipate this problem. Therefore I would hope that when I hire a professional to do a job I cannot do myself, I would think they are prepared for and anticipate any other needed pieces such as this "plate" when changing outdoor light fixtures. Anyway, now I have new fixtures which set crooked on my exterior walls and in fact they look like, an amateur/do it yourselfer has installed them. I spoke with Steve on the day of installation, asking him to please order or purchase the "plates and then come back and install them for me, he promptly left himself a message on his phone which indicated to me that he would do it, however I have not heard back from him, and it has been 2 months. Now for the up side of this experience, we also had a post light replaced which had a dusk to dawn switch. The switch turned out to be defective and Steve had an extra "dusk to dawn switch" in this truck so he was able to replace the old, wore out one. Over all I would say Steve and his son have every intention of doing a good job, and I think they did an ok job for me. I just hope that some day soon I will get a call telling me the "plates" are ready to be installed behind my new light fixtures. This way I can give them a better rating.
