They cleaned up after they completed the job. We will certainly contact them again when we have need for electrical work to be done.

 + -1 moreThe electrician showed-up at the early end of the 4-hour window, and successfully replaced an older outlet that had a bad connection. Entire job took roughly 30 minutes; 20 of which was to locate the offending outlet in a cramped area. The electrician was very professional and courteous, despite being in a less-than-ideal spot to fix the problem. Cost seemed kind of high, but I'm guessing that's the going rate these days.

One did not respond, the other quoted over the phone without seeing the job site. Steve came to our home reviewed the work to be done and recommended the portable generator breaker verses transfer switch. I can run the whole house.
Description of Work: Steve's crew installed a portable generator breaker with a safety plate from the main panel box to an outlet on the garage. also they replaced a 220 line & plug with a conventional 110 line and plug.

 + 0 moreIt went well; the repair was not simple so they came back as soon as they could fit in a few hours - was two or three days later. Did a nice job of saving drywall pieces so I could quickly patch the holes in the wall and ceiling where they had to run a new wire. The two guys worked well together, although I was surprised that they were not wearing standard PPE for electrical work, including safety glasses. I would recommend them for this type of work.

 + 0 moreIt took about 45 minutes for electrician & apprentice to isolate the wire with the short; I was a little surprised at the lack of PPE for arc flash protection (safety glasses, long sleeves, gloves) during this process. Once the shorted connection was found, they scheduled a return trip for the repair, as it involved opening up wall and ceiling runs to a light fixture. The did a nice job on the 'demo' as all sheetrock pieces were cut out pretty neatly, I was able to use them to patch the wall & ceiling.

 + -1 moreI made sure I obtained 3 estimates and Nichols and another contractor were both about the same cost. Mr. Nichols was good abut returning phone calls and did arrive punctually, however since installation I have been informed by a electrical inspector that I hired, that 10 critical areas were not done properly or to code. In addition, the inspector they hired to inspect the project upon completion and provide a "Certificate of Inspection" never inspected said installation but I was provided a Certificate as if installation had been inspected. I also have discovered that my town required a permit for such installation and one was never obtained. I will now need to contract with another electrician to bring my installation to code at an additional cost.
Description of Work: I hired Nichols Electrical to convert my electrical fuses to circuit breakers.

 + -1 moreI was very happy with the work done by Steve's crew. The cost was reasonable and the work was completed quickly. Communication was good leading up to the installation. Steve is accessible by both phone and email and is good about returning calls and responding to emails. I had no issues with the work done by Steve's crew but I'm sure if I did, Steve would stand behind his work and make it right. The set-up he installed performed flawlessly during the recent power outage.
Description of Work: Steve's crew installed a "portable generator breaker", an interlock switch, and ran a line from the panel box to an outlet in my garage. This was a life saver in the aftermath of the recent wind storm. All I had to do was fire up my portable generator, turn off the main RG&E breaker, turn on the "portable generator breaker", plug one end of the 220v "extension cord" into my generator and the other end into the outlet installed by Steve's crew in my garage. The 220v cord was provided as part of the installation package. I was able to run my furnace, sump pump, refrigerator, freezer, lights and really anything else I wanted in our house.

Communications were simple, direct, and thorough. I felt thoroughly confident in the work as planned, and the cost was fixed before started, thus avoiding any cost surprises. The work done was excellent and everything was tidied up when finished. Steve Nichols and the electricians who did the work were extremely polite and courteous. If you need electrical work done, Nichols Electrical is a joy to work with.
Description of Work: I needed a laundry list of tasks completed including diagnosis and repair of a faulty house circuit, installation of a new dedicated microwave circuit, a new kitchen outlet, installation of multiple GFIs throughout the house, removal of an old kitchen range wall outlet, and installation of a whole house surge protector.

They informed me of the problem and went and got the replacement part and continued with the work. They cleaned up their work areas and went over everything with me that was done to be sure I was happy with everything they did. I've used this company in the past in another home we owned and was completely satisfied then as I was again with this work they did.
Description of Work: We had two kitchen lights hardwired in, replaced hardwired smoke alarms with CO2 detectors, several new lines run in basement to run dehumidifier and treadmill and had a whole house surge protector installed.

 + 0 moreVery well. Everything went smoothly; the two workers were polite and did their job quickly and professionally. I wish there could have been a bit more attention to clean up/dust prevention. My kitchen cabinets beneath the installed light have a lot of dust on the shelves, as does my clothes closet near one bedroom light. Nicholls gave us a $20 gift card for a future service, which we intend to use. It's a smart idea, and I appreciate the thoughtfulness.
Description of Work: We needed overhead lighting in two rooms. I purchased two Deals for this. The owner made sure I understood over the phone that since one project was in a downstairs room, there would be additional cost for cutting a hole in the ceiling, and I'd also need to hire a plasterer to repair the ceiling. I appreciated his clarity, although I wish that this info appeared on the Deal itself--it's not like downstairs rooms in 2-story homes are uncommon. Given that the added costs doubled the project amount and required me to find another contractor, I might have put this project off a few more months. Additionally, we asked Nicholls to install a can light in our kitchen and an outlet in our bathroom. Both of these projects were quick and simple, and fairly priced. They did not charge extra to check our malfunctioning garage fixture, which was nice.
