I am a welder/fabricator with 20 years experience in the fabrication of architectural products, chassis and marine fabrication. My rate is $50 per hour in the shop, $75 per hour at your site, rates doubled after 10pm and weekends. Currently I am accepting cash only from first time customers, checks from repeat customers and will be accepting credit cards in the near future. I offer discounts for volume contracts, referrals and repeat business after the third job within three months. I give free estimates and can usually start within 24 hours outside of emergencies. I will operate at in-shop rates with a service contract of a year or more without consideration of the time of day.

Metal Fabrication and Restoration questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can use a saw to cut metal pipes. The best saw to use is a reciprocating saw, but even a fine-tooth hacksaw can get the job done. No matter which saw you use to cut metal pipes, wear protective gear, like work gloves, safety goggles, and ear plugs. Apply a firm, steady pressure to the tool, and always ensure the pipes are secured so they don't move while you make the cuts.

Choosing the right metal fabricator for your project begins with research. Find a reputable fabrication company by searching for reputable contractors in your area, and then reviewing photos of their previous work, customer reviews, and photos of the company’s workshop.

Once you’ve narrowed down the list, contact the companies to ask about the types of metal fabrication projects they specialize and inquire about guarantees and warranties on workmanship. You should also ensure the company uses high-quality material, and ask about the schedule and turnaround time for your proposed project.

Costs depend on metal type, fabrication complexity, labor, finishing, and shipping or installation requirements.

Professional metal fabricators usually charge around $70 per hour. Three of the largest cost factors are the size and complexity of the project and the price of materials. The type of metal can impact the cost as much as the intricacy of the metal fabrication you want done. Another cost factor is your geographic location, as labor and materials can vary widely depending on the cost of living where you live.

Since cesspits must be watertight to prevent leakage and contamination, so they’re typically constructed from one of a few tough materials. Most cesspits are made from fiberglass, concrete, polythene, or steel. Each of these materials carries certain advantages—fiberglass, for example, is resistant to corrosion but may be more prone to cracking if it’s at high capacity.
