Place screws for gutter fascia brackets on every other rafter tail or a distance of no more than three feet apart. Rafter tails are typically spaced 16 inches apart from the center, allowing you to place brackets 32 inches apart.

On average, gutters last between 15 and 25 years. Certain materials (stainless and galvanized steel, copper, and cast iron) will have much longer lifespans, with much higher price tags. Vinyl typically lasts only 10 to 15 years, while the second most commonly used material, aluminum, lasts an average of 25 years. Keeping your gutters clear and in good condition can help water drain more efficiently, which may help keep ice dams from forming.
