"Grantt came out to take a look at my property and give me an estimate. He was very courteous very professional and gave me a fair price. He said he has two crews that work on projects so this morning a crew of three or four guys came out and started to work. They cleaned up my yard. Mow the grass, trimming and cleaned up the weeds. It looks absolutely stunning. I can’t overestimate that I mean stunning with all capital letters. They’re all really good guys to talk to and they did excellent work. I highly recommend them. I will be using them more in the future for sure."

"Jesus (Jesse) and his crew are amazing. When I requested quotes for my roof-replacement project, he responded immediately. He came over to my house the very next day and gave me an extremely fair estimate. I hired him on the spot. The next day, he and his crew began working. They gave me constant updates on the project, the progress they'd made, and the remaining steps they needed to complete. During the process of removing my old roof, they discovered that there were actually four roof layers up there, meaning that the removal task was going to be much more complex, difficult, and time consuming than planned. Jesse told me immediately what was involved, explained that there would necessarily be an extra cost, and quoted me a very fair price for the additional labor. On the next day, when the weather turned, unexpectedly, and ran began falling, Jesse and the crew quickly covered the in-progress roof with tarps, then waited out the storm -- staying at my house after 8 PM -- and then resumed working for as long as there was still light in the sky. That's devotion! Throughout the project, Jesse and his crew were consummate professionals. They worked carefully, without rushing and without cutting corners. They were friendly, hard-working, and devoted. And while New Generation Roofing is a new company, all of its members (and its owner, Jesse) have been in the roofing business for years. It's clear that Jesse and his crew are working to make a name for their new enterprise and go out of their way in terms of customer service, quality, and fair pricing. I can't recommend them highly enough."

Roof Cleaning FAQs, answered by experts

There are several ways to remove snow from your roof: using a snow rake, salting the roof with calcium chloride, using a rope (cautiously), and using heating cables. It’s important to mention that pretty, fluffy, sparkling snow weighs a great deal, and when physically removing snow from a roof, you should be aware of large snow slabs breaking off. These can weigh hundreds of pounds and are a real danger, so be extremely careful anytime you’re doing this type of work.

Yes, algae-resistant shingles will prevent algae and moss growth, providing double protection for your roof and roof flashing. The copper-infused granules on algae-resistant shingles release copper ions that inhibit plant growth in general, so moss will have a harder time growing on your roof, too. Keep in mind that copper ions flowing off your roof during rainfall can also inhibit plant growth below, so your gardens and grass may be affected.

There are several telltale signs that your roof needs to be professionally cleaned. It's best to hire a professional as soon as you notice any indicators of wear to preserve your roof's longevity. Key signs to look for include:

  • Moss, Algae, or Plant Growth: Look for moss growth, black streaks (which are often a type of black algae), or any other plant life on your roof's surface.

  • Dirt and Grime Buildup: A general layer of dirt and grime can accumulate over time.

  • Leaf Buildup: An accumulation of leaves, especially in the gutters, is a clear sign.

  • Buildup Under Shingles: Dirt and debris can get trapped under the edges of your shingles.

  • Shifting Roof Shingles: While this can indicate other problems, it can also be a sign that cleaning and maintenance are overdue.

  • Comparison to Neighbors: If your roof appears significantly dirtier or different from your neighbors' roofs, that’s another sign it may be time for a cleaning.

Roof cleaning services provide a slew of benefits, the most significant of which is improved curb appeal. Roof cleaning can make a dirty and neglected roof look new again, potentially saving you from replacing your roof to improve its appearance. Roof cleaning will also remove algae and moss, the latter of which can eventually lead to roof leaks from trapped moisture and lifted shingles. In the long run, roof cleaning can prolong the useful life of your roof and prevent property damage, making it a great investment.

You should avoid using a pressure washer on any surface or item that could be damaged by the high-pressure spray, as some materials are too delicate to withstand the force.

Key items and surfaces to avoid include:

  • Electrical Components: Never pressure wash electrical systems, as water can cause short-circuits and create a safety hazard. This includes utility meters, breaker boxes, electrical outlets, generators, and HVAC or air conditioner units.

  • Delicate and Fragile Materials: Fragile items can crack, shatter, or be stripped by the pressure. Avoid pressure washing windows, glass, light fixtures, shingled roofs (especially asphalt), and stucco.

  • Painted, Stained, or Sealed Surfaces: Unless your goal is to strip the finish, do not pressure wash painted surfaces, stained wood (like decks), or anything with a protective seal that could be stripped away. Be especially cautious with older surfaces that may contain lead paint.

  • Soft Woods and Certain Decking: Delicate surfaces like softwood, composite decking, and antique or wooden patio furniture can be etched or damaged. If you must wash wood, use a lower-powered pressure washer with a wide-angle nozzle to prevent damage.

  • Living Things: Never use a pressure washer on people, pets, or plants. The force can cause serious injury and will destroy landscaping.
