"It's a pretty decent system, I think. They send you the pieces and you install them yourself, which is pretty easy. The only real problem I have is that one sensor is too far away from the panel...or there's some interference, and they haven't been able to fix that. It's an interior door, so it's not the end of the world, just a little annoying. Their customer service is pretty good though. Nice, smart customer service people on the other end, very polite and helpful."

"I purchased a deal through Angie's List for 3 hours of handyman work knowing that the work I had in mind would take more than the 3 hours.  The work was done well and to our satisfaction. The reason I gave a slightly lower score in some areas is because on Monday morning when I was expecting SMRT construction at 8am, I received a phone call Steve Garcia saying that Michael, the owner of SMRT Construction, had just called and asked him to take my job and that he'd be at my house by 9am. Michael and I had had this scheduled for several weeks and I was surprised that he hadn't made arrangements for someone to be at the house at the scheduled time.  Steve hadn't expected to work that day and wasn't available to work into the afternoon.Steve did not always make his follow up appointments when he said he would. The work did get done and it was satisfactory, but it's inconvenient not to have appointments kept, etc. Steve Garcia, the handyman who did the work for us was very knowledgeable, polite and willing to do the work needed.  The owner Michael never came by and inspected the work, nor did he send me an invoice as I asked him to do.  I really felt that, despite his making the 3 hours for handyman deal, Michael was not very interested in a smaller job.  I did mention to Michael and to Steve about another job I was interested in receiving an estimate for and have never had any follow up.

Chimney Inspection questions, answered by experts

You can enjoy your TPO roof by making it into a rooftop deck. However, homeowners should use caution when hosting events on the roof. Specifically, no one should ever smoke a cigarette on a TPO roof, as they could burn holes in the roofing material and cause leaks. Also, it can be slippery. Homeowners can buy no-slip walk pads to keep people safe on the roof. You can also install a "floating deck" over the top of the TPO,  but your roofer has to be sure to never put any fasteners through the TPO.

The best way to know if your roof can support solar panels is to hire a structural engineer. They’ll look at your roof and approve the design of your solar panel system or suggest changes. The best roofing for solar panels is made from strong materials like asphalt shingles and metal, but tile and gravel will work. Softer materials like thatch or temporary structures are not a good fit.

Eaves will last as long as the roof, often 15 to 30 years or more, depending on the type of roof. Since eaves are part of the roof, their life span will depend on the roof's condition, although they can still be damaged by faulty gutters or pest damage, shortening their longevity.

The roof overhang, also known as the eaves, does count as part of the roof’s square footage because it must be covered with the roofing material. The overhang is one of the reasons why you can’t base your roof's square footage on the square footage of the house. The roof square footage must also account for the pitch of the roof as well as the eaves.

Cracks in the chimney can be very serious, depending on their location and size. Even small cracks can become serious over time if left unrepaired. Cracks allow heat and moisture to deteriorate your chimney and harmful carbon monoxide gas to seep into your home. Small cracks can often be caulked, while large cracked sections may require full replacement.
