"Very easy to work with. Prompt response. Work was done quickly yet perfectly. Bob powerwashed my Daughter's entire house and the kids huge gym set and the white, PVC fencing. Looks new again. He also re-stained her back deck and made a minor repair as well. The price was very fair and this is the company we will call moving forward"

"Hired Meci Construction to repair our deck. Turned out the deck foundation was very old and needed to be redone. The Meci team did an excellent job rebuilding the deck from scratch and completed the job in 1 week from hire. Very Professionnal team, top quality workmanship and materials without cutting any corners. Would highly recommend them."

"Robert and his crew were great! They were very thorough and professional in completing my deck repair. They offered insight while completing the job to enhance the final appearance. Robert extended his time and completed tasks not included in the original contract without additional compensation. Everyone was very personal, polite and cooperative. I would very highly recommend New - Gen Construction for any deck related projects."

Deck Repair FAQs, answered by experts

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

The best way to sand a deck is by cleaning it, sanding the boards and stairs with 60- or 80-grit sandpaper, and sanding the railings and posts with 80-grit sandpaper. You should sand in the direction of the wood grain to avoid damaging the timber. When sanding your deck, use medium pressure and aim for an even sand. Pressing too hard with a sander can damage decks, as most are softwoods.

Yes, snow should be removed from a deck to protect it from damage caused by moisture and heavy loads. Shovel the snow off of your deck regularly once it is more than four inches deep. Avoid using salt, which can damage your deck.

Typically, most residential wooden decks are designed to support approximately 40 pounds per square foot, including the deck’s weight and any items placed on it. While this is fine for typical use, it is usually not enough to hold the weight of a hot tub filled with water and people. To safely support a hot tub, your wood deck will likely require reinforcement. Therefore, it’s best to have a contractor or a structural engineer assess it before hot tub installation.

Space deck handrail posts four to six feet apart. If the posts are more than six feet apart, the railing will be less able to withstand lateral forces and is more susceptible to breaking. Additionally, railing posts that are more than six feet apart may not be up to code, and you may face fines and be required to reinstall the posts to bring them up to code.
