"I was impressed with Central Jersey Driveways from the first time Mike came over to give me a free estimate! They worked through the NJ Blizzard of 2026 and did an absolutely beautiful job installing pavers in my driveway! The crew was hardworking and experienced. I would recommend Central Jersey Driveways for your next project. I will use them again when I need work done!"

"Ryan is great young hardworking guy, he understands the requirement and made a nice pavers patio and asphalt driveway, we liked it. He has completed big project on time. The driveway could be little better but overall good job. He has promised 5 years warranty plus helping out with sealing the driveway next year as courtesy."

"Our property has a lot of trees, and we dread autumn every year because it's so hard to keep up with the leaves. For years, we handled fall cleanup ourselves, but this year, we finally gave in and called Joe Smentkowski, who was recommended by a friend. All I can say is, why, oh why, didn't we hire him and his team years ago? They were prompt, thorough, fair, and our lawn has never looked better. They even cleaned the gutters. Thanks, Joe - we'd recommend you any day!"

"They installed a patio in my backyard with Cambridge pavers which turned out absolutely beautiful. The design and pattern is just outstanding. They also put a belgium block border on both sides of my driveway on a 35 degree angle which added the final touch to the Cambridge paver driveway that Classical pavers did a few years ago. The crew that did this project and my driveway are very professional and polite. I have recommended Classical Pavers to many family and friends. The owner is very honest and a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. They are the best around without a doubt."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

If your driveway is cracked, you can repave it with a process called asphalt overlay. Overlay is more cost-effective than a full replacement but is better suited for minor cracks and issues. If you have major cracks or other problems like water pooling, asphalt overlay isn’t your best bet. Plus, paving over a cracked driveway only extends the lifetime by about 10 years, whereas replacing it would start the clock over completely to give you up to 30 years.

Asphalt driveways are affordable and able to withstand sub-zero temperatures. The asphalt surface makes it easy to plow snow, and it has excellent traction for slippery winter days. Another benefit: it absorbs heat from the sun and can then help to melt snow and ice more quickly than other surfaces.

Several materials are suitable for steep driveways. Gravel and crushed stone are affordable options that provide good traction. Permeable pavers—such as plastic, rubber, or concrete—filled with gravel or crushed stones are also excellent, as they allow water to drain without causing erosion and perform well in ice and snow. Another option is resin, which can be coated with an anti-slip finish and helps prevent puddles. For added stability, you can install a retaining wall to prevent pavers and gravel from shifting over time.

The choice between asphalt and concrete depends on your priorities, budget, and climate.

Concrete is generally more durable, lasting up to 50 years with minimal upkeep, and offers more customization options like staining and stamping, which can add more to a home's value. However, it is more expensive upfront and can be prone to cracking in cold climates where water can freeze and expand.

Asphalt is typically cheaper and quicker to install and is easier to repair. It performs better in colder climates. However, it requires more maintenance, including regular resealing, has a shorter lifespan, and can get hot and sticky in intense sunlight.

Ultimately, if durability and long-term value are key, concrete is often the better choice. If upfront cost and performance in cold weather are more important, asphalt may be preferable.

Common alternatives to a gravel driveway include concrete, asphalt, brick, stone pavers, and permeable pavers. Concrete and asphalt are generally the most affordable options. However, concrete can be prone to cracking in cold climates, while asphalt may soften in areas with high heat and direct sun exposure. For enhanced curb appeal, brick, stone, and permeable pavers are popular choices, though their installation can be more expensive due to intricate designs. Stone pavers offer a natural look and are sometimes installed with gravel around them. Both permeable pavers and brick driveways provide excellent drainage, which helps prevent flooding and reduce water runoff.
