"Excellent! Everyone showed up as promised, and the work was thorough and professional. I love the results, the house sparkles, the gutters flow clean. The price was right, and they delivered. Plus, they are a very attentive crew, and the owner Chris goes out of his way to make sure the job was well done. Thank you for the excellent service!"

"They did great work. I asked Mike to submit an estimate to my email so I could send it to my home owners insurance, which he did the same day. I also appreciated that they took care to keep the area being worked on contained from the rest of the room. No clean up or dust created by them. I will definitely use them again."

"Jose Davila is a talented and hardworking contractor. He's very handy and knowledgable, he is an artist and a craftsman. Jose does things the right way. He takes a lot of pride in his work. He is reliable. Jose is very concerned that you are happy, pleased, and satisfied with the work he has done. He prepped and painted every room in my house, including some carpentry work. He is very skillful in applying, replacing, and repairing drywall/Sheetrock. Jose is honest and trustworthy. He had my key did the work while I was at work. His beautiful work helped to sell my home. Jose has also done pressure washing on my wooden fence and the aluminum siding on my house. He repaired the cracks in my concrete drive way and resurfaced it. He repaired and resurfaced my concrete front porch. My neighbor saw his van in my driveway and asked about Joseâ s work. I gave him high marks and they subsequently hired Jose to work on their house. They later thanked me for recommending him because they were very pleased with his work. Besides highly recommending Jose I am also proud to call him my friend. I know Jose and his family and they are very nice people. Jose is a local contractor who lives in Hamilton."

Customers say: Quick response

"We were searching for someone to paint our aged wooden deck...it needed a complete make-over. We contacted Jonathan for a quote and he responded in a very timely manner and answered every question we had. After comparing his quote with a couple of others, we found his price to be reasonable and so we hired him to power wash, sand and paint our deck. Jonathan was punctual, extremely polite and respectful and a hard worker. He communicated with us throughout the project and did a fantastic job, taking care and pride in his work. We are very happy with the results and Shaker Flooring and Paint will be our go-to for any future home painting projects. I highly recommend this business!"

"They showed up in a timely fashion to provide me a quote.  After assessing his cost and the cost of another competitor, and pricing out renting a power washer for 4 hours, I decided to do the work myself.  I had a small enough house that I decided I could get it done and save myself some money.
If I had a bigger house or one that was significantly dirty, I would have utilized their services.

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Most building codes require that railing spindles (also known as balusters) on decks or stairs be spaced no more than four inches apart. This safety standard is often called the '4-inch sphere rule,' which means a sphere with a 4-inch diameter should not be able to pass through the opening between balusters. This rule is in place to prevent small children and pets from slipping through the railing. For the same reason, the space between the bottom rail and the deck or floor surface should also be no more than four inches. As a general guideline, professionals often install three balusters per foot of railing. However, since specific requirements can vary by location, it is essential to check your local building codes to ensure compliance before starting your project.

Deck boards should be spaced no more than three-eighths of an inch apart. This is enough space to allow water and small debris to pass through without collecting on the surface, but not enough to create a tripping hazard. Certain materials, like pressure-treated wood, shrink over time, so they may need less space at installation.

Pressure-treated lumber is one of the most affordable types of decking upfront. This material is widely available, so you can usually find pressure-treated lumber at almost any local home improvement store you visit. Keep in mind that wood requires a lot of upkeep with repainting and restaining, so any kind of wood may be more expensive in the long run than something like PVC decking.

Spindles on a deck may also be called balusters or pickets. While not as important to the structural support of the deck as the rail posts, they play a critical role in ensuring the deck is safe to use by closing in large gaps in the railing. For this reason, balusters must be no more than 4 inches away from one another.

A covered deck can be a good investment that increases your home value—especially if you live in a hot region with a lot of sun. A covering over the deck means you can get more use out of it, even on the hottest summer days. With a permanent deck covering, you can even add ceiling fans to help cool down your deck for added comfort.
