"The crew was hardworking, thorough and meticulous. Very polite and professional. Very hard working crew. My wife and I are thrilled with the results. Received compliments from some of the neighbors already. One of the most important characteristics with this landscaping company is that they communicate. They were originally supposed to be here this Wednesday and or Friday, but they got behind schedule due to the rain, which we understand. The foreman communicated this to me via several phone calls, and rescheduled to Monday or Tuesday, which was much appreciated. That said, they pleasantly surprised us as they bumped their schedule to accommodate us and did the job this past Saturday, July 16th. We were thrilled! We wouldn't hesitate to hire Garcia's Landscaping again. We highly recommend Garcia's Landscaping to anyone. Residential and or commercial properties."

"I tried Sod for my yard twice but my German Shepard killed it. I figured I give this a try and it has been two weeks so far and I feel it is one of the best things I have done. Yard looks great and the crew that put it in did an awesome job. They did a lot of work to level out the yard and to secure the turf down. Anyone is welcome to come and check this out in Lowell Ma. "Eric was right on point and identified the solution and scope of work very promptly. He is a very good communicator via text and in person. I thought his pricing was very fair. He worked to install gutter on my roof, drainage piping, and a trench drain on the side of my driveway to mitigate erosion. He rototilled, fertilized, and installed sod on my formerly eroded front lawn. The work came out fantastic and my neighbors keep complementing me on how nice my house looks now."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Hedge plants are available in almost every size, from seedlings to fully mature, six-foot-tall shrubs. Planting smaller plants is much easier and more cost-effective. However, it can take years for the plants to reach maturity and create a full hedge. Garden centers and specialty retailers sometimes offer three to four-foot wide plants that you can simply plant next to each other for an instant full hedge.

A window flower box should be deep enough that there’s room for a wide selection of plants and the required amount of soil and gravel. Standard flower boxes are 8 inches deep and 8 inches from front to back. Larger is better to increase the variety of plants in the box, but you could run into stability issues as it increases in weight.

You should use mulch because it protects garden soil in a few key ways. This extra layer between the ground and the elements protects against erosion, helps your soil maintain moisture, regulates changes in temperature, adds nutrients as it decomposes, and keeps weeds at bay.

Yes, you can landscape in the rain, but you should take some precautions to keep yourself and your tools safe. Avoid using electric landscaping tools during rainfall, and don’t mow, thatch, aerate, or rake in the rain, as your tools can more easily tear out roots in the loose soil. Be careful when working on wet grass, and take your time to avoid slipping. Avoid putting in new plants before a particularly bad storm, as heavy rain and strong winds can damage or uproot plants that aren’t yet established.

As with anything you do near your foundation, you’ll want to ensure proper drainage when you plant your foundation beds. Your drainage should run downhill from the highest point against your foundation to avoid water intrusion and incurring expensive foundation repair costs.
