Use a combination of blackout methods to truly black out your windows. If you want to eliminate all light from your room, try installing a very dark tinted film and then putting up blackout shades over the entire window. Insulating windows without plastic is usually the better method. Outside of simply replacing your windows, you could buy cellular shades, which trap air between the window and the home, add a window film that blocks UV rays and traps heat, or cover your windows with a low-emissivity coating called “low-E.”
To clean your vertical blinds, dust each slat with a feather duster or microfiber cloth. If you need to deep clean the slats, you can remove them and wipe them down with mild soap and water (check the material though, since not every material can handle water). You can also vacuum out dust from the track using a vacuum attachment with a brush.
DIY cleaning is possible but may not remove deep dust, stains, or allergens as effectively as professional methods.
