My name is Eric Deans and I am the owner and operator of Tri-Dad Lawn Care and Landscaping. My wife is Laura Deans and we have two sons Justin and Patrick. I have lived in the Greenville/Pitt County area for over 35 years. I am also a Firefighter and Paramedic and have been doing this for over 20 years. My wife works at ECU. I started working during the summer doing lawn care, when I was 14 years old. The only thing I could do was pull weeds and pick up trash. As I got older I was able to use a trimmer. I also drove a bobcat walk-behind and a Scag mower. I have used Echo, Shindaiwa, Husqvarna lawn mowers, edgers, blowers, push lawn mowers and trimmers. We also offer pressure washing services. We clean vinyl, brick, cement, wood and just about any other surface area. Our goal is to take care of your property like it was our own. Cut, Clean, Care is our motto. We take pride in our work and want every aspect of our service to be excellent. We love helping people with their lawn care and landscaping needs. We are a local business and want to help you. Give me a call for an estimate for all your lawn care needs.

Lawn Fertilization and Treatment questions, answered by experts

Fescue grass is a relatively low-maintenance grass type, meaning it doesn’t require much more attention than regular watering, dethatching, and mowing. Some fescues even grow slowly enough for hard-to-reach areas, particularly those inaccessible by the mower. Following a seasonal maintenance schedule will help your fescue lawn stay green, healthy, and durable for years to come.

You should fertilize your lawn after it has grown at least two inches or after your second mow (usually in March or April). Applying fertilizer too early can feed your weeds and cause them to grow stronger, too. You should water your lawn two to three days before you apply fertilizer to ensure the soil absorbs it.

No, watering dead grass will not bring it back to life. If the grass on your lawn is truly dead, no amount of water will bring it back to life. However, some methods can bring dying grass back to life. Consider aerating, overseeding, or analyzing your soil to get to the root of why the grass is dying.

You should apply sulfur to your lawn in the spring or fall when it is below 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Aim for a day with little to no wind so you can apply it with precision. You can apply sulfur to an established lawn or mix it into the top 6 inches of soil on an unplanted area.

Some of the particular herbicides that work best to get rid of nut grass without killing the grass include Halosulfuron-methyl, mesotrione, sulfentrazone, and metsulfuron. A herbicide like glyphosate would kill nutgrass, but it will kill nearby plants, too.
