"My computer (Windows XP) was running very slow and had become almost inoperable. It was taking a very long time to process anything, especially anything to do with the internet. IE was taking 100% of the cpu most of the time. Jim worked on my computer remotely for several days defragging, cleaning, anti-virus, malware, etc., but could not get it to perform anywhere near where it should. We decided that I needed a new computer. Jim built me a new computer (Windows 7 with racing stripes). The new system works very well and I am pleased with it. When Jim switched my files over from old to new, the Kodak Easy-Share program with my pictures did not get transferred. He has promised to make that transfer when he installs a new door covering the DVD reader which was broken upon setup. I will update this review when this occurs. I am very pleased with the new system and would do it all over again if a similar situation were present.

"Sales process was good, courteous and helpful. Installation instructions were easy to follow. Did have a small issue with one sensor which was easily solved with a call. Control panel is easy to use and well constructed. Phone app is the best part. Not a big fan of a 2 year contract and the monthly rate feels a little high, but definitely a decent system. I had emailed them a question pertaining installing on double hung windows and never received a reply, but other than that their phone support prior to that was good."

"First, I had not had any problems with my dryer, and the vent was not blocked (air came out of it when the dryer was running), but I figured the vent was overdue for a cleaning.
This was a difficult review to write. Let me say that I think the Fireplace Doctor is an honest organization, the technicians work hard, and I would consider using them again. My experience had several problems, however, and some were serious enough that I can't give the company a higher rating at this time.
First, there were problems just with the logistics of getting an appointment scheduled and having people show up (the main office is apparently in Florida). It's possible that these kinds of problems have been resolved by now. It was so difficult to get through to make an appointment that I wondered at first if the company was still in business. After several attempts, I was able to get through to someone and make an appointment.
I was given a time slot from 11-1, so on that day, I stayed home from work. No one showed. I called the company again, someone asked for my zip code, and I was put on hold for about 10 minutes. During that time, I heard the phone ring twice like I was being transferred. The second time, someone answered and said, "Can I help you?" So I had to start my explanation all over again. The person looked up my record and said that the appointment had been canceled. He asked about the weather ("Is it pouring down rain?"). It was not raining. He said he'd call me right back when he found out what happened. I did get a call back, but from someone else, who said someone had marked my appointment as "canceled" on the technician's sheet. No one could say why--just a mistake by someone in the office, they guessed. The man was apologetic and wanted to reschedule first thing the following week, but I chose a later time, which was better for me.
Someone did show up for the appointment this time, although earlier: they did not have the same time window that I was given. My dryer is upstairs and the end of the vent is over the front porch. The technician cleaned the vent from the upstairs. He did not get a lot of stuff out of it--I'd been expecting some dramatic amount of lint to come out. He put in a new hose to the wall for free. He wrote  "* SAFE TO USE *" on the sheet, and left.
I use my dryer only on weekends. A couple of weeks later, I noticed that the dryer seemed to be running really hot. It was hot to the touch all over, in areas that never heated up before. My boyfriend was the first to notice that a really bad smell was coming out of it. I did some checking, and found that no air was coming out of the vent. I verifiedthat the flexible hose to connect the dryer to the vent did not have a kink in it. I then called the Fireplace Doctor and told them that something was really wrong, that my dryer was probably not safe to use, and that the stench was getting just awful. I thought this needed to be dealt with immediately, but the woman I talked to said no one would be in my area the next week, so I took the first appointment the week after that.
However, someone from the Fireplace Doctor called me in the next day or so to make the appointment she said I'd requested. I told her I'd already made one, but I would really like one sooner. She found me an appointment later that week, saying that maybe the person I'd talked to didn't know that there were two teams who worked the area. Anyway, it worked to my advantage this time that communications were messed up in the office and that one hand didn't seem to know what the other was doing, because I got an earlier appointment.
The man who came out this time said he was the local manager/boss, and he really did seem to know what he was doing. He went into the vent from the exit end, over the porch, explaining that this was better, because I could run the dryer (no heat), and the air would help push the lint out of the vent. He spent a long time in hot weather, worked very hard, and got an amazing amount of stuff out of the vent, including the really disgusting clumps that were growing mold (what happened when the vent got completely clogged after the first "cleaning", and what was creating the stench). So ultimately, my vent got a good, thorough cleaning. But the fact that the first attempt put the vent in worse condition than it had been originally by stopping it up completely, making my dryer overheat, and probably creating a fire hazard, and that it was labeled "safe to use" when it wasn't, makes me qualify my recommendation:
I would recommend this company IF you are willing to deal with an out-of-state company for all your arrangements, willing to deal with a less-than-efficient office for the details of getting your appointment set up, and observant enough to know if there is something wrong after the service is completed,  Furthermore, I recommend that you should have the technician go in from the exit end of the vent, not the dryer side. Since I now know all of this, this is why I would consider using the Fireplace Doctor again.

Windows questions, answered by experts

While clean windows don't automatically increase home value, they make your home look more attractive from the outside, and since the exterior is the first thing a potential buyer will see, it can help make a good first impression that paints the rest of your home in a positive light. Educated homebuyers will see that your home is well cared for if they see clean window tracks and sparkling window glass, which can contribute to an overall positive opinion of your property. Clean windows give the impression that the rest of the home—including systems and appliances—is probably well-kept, too.

Windows last between 15 and 30 years on average. The glass tends to last for around 20 years, while the frames last up to 50 years. This varies by the type of window frame material, glass quality, location, and level of maintenance. Wood frames have the shortest lifespan and require repainting or resealing every couple of years, while fiberglass has one of the longest lifespans.

Yes, bifold windows can open inward or outward. Your window manufacturer will label windows as “in-swing” or “out-swing,” which indicates the direction they open. If your installer is ordering windows for you, make sure they know which direction you want them to open. In-swing bifold windows will preserve as much space in your outdoor area as possible. Out-swing bifold windows are great on the second floor, where obstructions outside aren’t a concern.

Wood windows fall in the middle of the window frame materials when it comes to energy efficiency. They’re more insulating than aluminum and vinyl, but they aren’t as efficient as fiberglass or composite frames. If you love the look and lifespan of wood windows and want to maximize efficiency, you can upgrade to double-pane or triple-pane glass and consider window tinting and low-emissivity (low-E) coatings to minimize heat transfer.

Your new windows may let in more noise than your old windows because they are not the right size or they were installed improperly. Improper installation, or choosing windows that are too small for the opening, can create gaps around the window that let in noise.

Another factor could be the STC and OITC ratings. If your new windows have lower ratings than your old windows, this means they have lower performance when it comes to dampening noise from the outdoors.
