"These folks are fantastic! James, Dane, Christy, Allen, Ben, and Jonathan have welcomed us into their family. From quote to installation to point of sale to maintenance contract checkups, these folks don't miss a beat. They are both professional and kind, getting jobs done quickly while giving my kids high fives. Everything was transparent, and there were no hidden fees or price increases. The job was explained in great detail, and I received EXACTLY what I expected, and then some. Spread the word: central MS has only 1 name you need to know for HVAC work - AirSouth!"

"Mr. Terry and Mr. Steven are truly professionals at their work and it's amazing how well they work together like a well oiled machine. I mean it's really wonderful that they can do things like they can read each others mind, that they know what the other needs to getting the large jobs completed with no wasted time and workmanship is Superior. We had our entire A/C systems ventilation piping replaced and redesigned. The new system looks absolutely great and laid out perfectly. It looks great with no piping out of place that blew my mind how wonderful it looks and totally efficient and cools our large house everywhere. There is no dead space not getting cooling or heating throughout the house. They checked out our 2 A/C units and they needed no work. We WILL be using Magnolia Heating and Cooling services in the future for our general maintenance and any further repairs. Their labor rates are most comparable and easy on the budget. They are NOT your run in the mill company that will promise one thing and do the other, or skip out on you like Valley Ridge Construction Company. Every rating given in this review is totally honest for they deserve every star given. Thank You Terry and Steven, Mr. Robert Tommaselli"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

If you’re planning an AC replacement, choosing an AC with a higher SEER rating may save you money in the long run. Tax credits could cover as much as 30% of the job, and you’ll notice smaller utility bills (particularly if you live in a hot climate where you need to constantly run the AC). Generally, you can expect to pay between $350 and $1,500 for each SEER rating increase. Weigh the cost against your typical utility bill to figure out what’s worth it to you.

Most HVAC companies recommend against setting your AC below 70 as it could freeze up the system and cause more problems. Regardless of how hot it is outside, there is generally a 20 degree difference between the outside and inside temperatures, so even if it’s 100 degrees outside, your AC will likely not be able to cool your home to 70 degrees.

One of the fastest ways to unfreeze an AC unit is to turn off the unit and, if it’s warm outside, use the fan-only mode to help blow warmer air through the unit to speed up the defrosting process. While it may be tempting to use a hair dryer to defrost the air conditioner, that high heat can damage the coils.

After defrosting, if you can safely solve the issue with a fix like changing the filter, go ahead and do so. Otherwise, call in a pro before turning your AC back on.

Capacitors are the most frequent part of an HVAC system to experience failure. These components are crucial for starting the motors that power the fans and compressor, but over time, they may become worn or fail due to electrical surges or regular wear and tear. When capacitors malfunction, HVAC systems may experience decreased heating or cooling efficiency, or even total system failure. Replacement or maintenance of capacitors is a common requirement for the optimal functioning of HVAC systems.

It’s not customary to tip HVAC technicians, and most professionals won’t expect it. However, it’s a nice way of showing your appreciation for the work they do, especially if they come out in inclement weather or on a weekend or holiday to fix an emergency issue if your heat or AC goes out in extreme temperatures. A good tip would be between 10% to 20% of the total bill, depending on how above and beyond the tech goes for your repair and on the total cost of your HVAC repair or service. For something like a routine tune-up or scheduled maintenance, tips aren’t expected.
