In some cases, yes, it’s safe to spray hydrogen peroxide on your mattress, but the solution can damage memory foam mattresses, so you should only use it on non-memory foam mattresses. If you have a standard spring mattress, you can mix hydrogen peroxide with cold water in a 1:1 ratio and spray that on your urine-soaked mattress. If you’re cleaning pee out of a memory foam mattress, swap out the hydrogen peroxide for white distilled vinegar, or call in a professional mattress cleaner to avoid doing damage to your mattress.

We don’t recommend you put your silk rug in the washing machine. Silk is extremely delicate; stuffing it in the washer won’t do it any good. Additionally, the hot water can harm your rug. If you have stubborn stains you can’t get out, the safest bet is to call a pro.

Vinegar and baking soda work well at lifting old stains from carpet.

  • Pour a generous layer of dry baking soda over the old stain.

  • In a spray bottle, combine distilled white vinegar with 1 cup of warm water. Add a few drops of liquid dish soap.

  • Spray the baking soda area thoroughly with the vinegar solution.

  • Let the vinegar and baking soda sit for a few hours.

  • Wipe or vacuum up the baking soda once it dries, then blot the area with a clean, dry towel.

  • Repeat as needed to lift the stain.
