Do your homework if you use a jackhammer; you’ll need full protective gear that includes a hard hat, safety goggles, and steel-toed boots.

Concrete spalling can be fairly serious, especially if left untreated or in a public area. It can be a tripping hazard and, if not resolved, can lead to structural instability.

Dry, unopened bags of mortar mix can be donated to neighbors, friends, or family who may have use for them. If you want to dispose of mixed mortar, you can dilute the mixture with water and pour it in a remote, unused area of your yard that won’t be affected.
