An epoxy floor will last 10 to 20 years if made with a solid or solvent-based resin and properly cared for and maintained. Water-based epoxy flooring has a shorter average life span of just three to five years due to lower overall durability.

To properly maintain an epoxy garage floor, regularly sweep up dirt and debris using a broom and dustpan or a vacuum cleaner. Mop with warm water and scrub away stains using a mild cleaning solution that's safe for the epoxy product you have installed. Don't use any soap-based or chemical cleaners, as these can cause the epoxy surface to deteriorate more rapidly.

Evenly wetting a wood floor before applying a stain is called water popping. It raises the grain and opens the wood’s pores to absorb more stain. When done properly, it can make the stain look darker and deeper. However, it’s important to evenly wet the floor and let it dry before applying the stain.
