"Arrived a day late, indicating that they "had been out late the night before". Removed the sub-floor on day 1/2 and found that the sub floor was 5/4 instead of the 3/4 that they had planned. Except they didn't bother telling ME that until the last day and advised that they could fix the 1/2 step running down the middle of my living room and kitchen for twice the price. I spent $400 and 5 days on my hands and knees fixing this problem. Damage done to walls that was not repaired, 2 doors need to be re-hung, siding removed from the back of the house (other option was the demolition of most of my kitchn cabinets) that is still not hung back up. Most days for the crew started at around 9:30-10:00 and ended about 3:30 in the afternoon. Did I mention that my wife and I were in a local hotel for then entirety of the repair process. To say that I am very unhappy with my experience with Foundation recovery systems would be an understatement. I will not refer them and never use them again."

There are many reasons you may want to extend the depth of an existing well or drill a new, deeper well on your property. A deeper well can tap cleaner water sources—shallow water may contain more contaminants. With a deeper well, you’ll also have an easier time reaching the water table depth (the level at which underground water is found) and can get past tricky soil conditions. 

Plus, if your local building code requires a minimum well depth for safety and environmental standards, you’ll meet the code by digging a deeper well in the first place.

A leaking well pipe is quite different from if the well itself is leaking. To seal a leaking well, pour a cement mixture or bentonite into the space between the well casing and the borehole wall. The heavier cement collects at the bottom to form a solid seal, pushing lighter materials like mud and fluids up toward the surface. If your well pump gets stuck in its casing, you may be able to free it loose by gently wiggling the line or by vibrations from tapping the line with a hammer. They’ll likely use a muriatic acid solution—a strong, corrosive acid—to break down the minerals and free the pump loose. 

To avoid a stuck pump in the future, experts recommend a professional well cleaning once every 10 years. 

Most professionals recommend that a deep well pump shouldn’t run more than 10 hours consecutively before cycling off. Overworking the well pump beyond the recommended amount can prematurely wear out your pump and burn out the motor, which means replacing it more often than you otherwise should need to. Your well pump should also come with the manufacturer’s use and maintenance recommendations that are specific to the model.
