"Loay Jabbar provided the information I needed quickly and clearly. I immediately signed up for full coverages for our two homes because of the discounts offered and because of the quality of service that Loay is saying and promising Choice Home Warranty provides to its customers. I have bad experiences with other home warranty companies so I am hoping I found the best company that would deliver the best service."

"If I could give more than 5 stars I would! We bought a house that ended up being a surprise fixer-upper. We thought paint and new flooring would be the extent of our home improvements but as we got into "demo" we found problem after problem. We were very discouraged because the problems were more than we could handle. I called 7 contractors and only 2 called me back. Luckily for us, one of them Bryant Construction. The positive, can-do attitude that Nich and Scott came in with, was exactly what we needed, to know that it was all going to be ok. They did it ALL for us. They tore down walls, built walls, fixed electrical, fixed plumbing issues, added can lights and ceiling fans, fixed floor joists, laid flooring, textured walls, did trim work, fixed window issues and so much more. They came up with solution after solution for ALLLL of the problems they ran into with this house. Also, they are fantastic people. They are honest, reliable, trust worthy, positive, funny and most importantly, they LISTENED TO WHAT WE WANTED. They were also respectful of our budget and timeline. I can't imagine have anyone else do the work that they did. I wouldn't want anyone else to do the work that they did. We are so very grateful that we found Bryant Construction!!"

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can finance new construction, though the process often requires a different type of loan than one for an existing property. There are several financing options available:

  • Construction-to-Permanent Loan: This is a common option where a single loan covers the building costs and then converts into a traditional mortgage once construction is complete and you move in.

  • Construction Loan (Stand-Alone): This type of loan provides funding only for the duration of the construction project. Once the house is built, you will need to pay the loan in full, typically by securing a separate, standard mortgage.

  • Builder Financing: Some custom homebuilders offer their own financing options, which may only require a down payment to begin the building process.

  • Bridge Loan: This can be a useful short-term loan to fund your new construction while you are in the process of selling your old home.

  • Home Equity Options: If you are building a second home, you might be able to use a home equity line of credit (HELOC) or a cash-out refinance on your current property.

It's also important to be aware that some lenders may have restrictions on financing for DIY house builds, so be sure to verify that you can secure financing before starting your project.

One starting point to find a local home builder is to collect suggestions from friends and neighbors. However, it’s still wise to do some more research before you hire a builder. Read reviews to supplement any word-of-mouth recommendations. Check sources like Angi that have standards and criteria in place to screen the pros it lists can also help you find more reputable local home builders.

Handypeople usually don’t hold trade licenses, so they typically aren’t qualified to tackle projects involving installing or making alterations to plumbing or electrical lines. Below are some jobs that a handyperson usually won’t be able to complete:

  • Installing plumbing for a new kitchen or bathroom

  • Replacing plumbing pipes

  • Installing or repairing septic systems

  • Running new electrical wiring

  • Installing a subpanel

Whether it’s more affordable to gut a house than build a new one depends on the markets where you'd be buying and selling. However, it’s usually less expensive to renovate a home than to build new construction.

Most homeowners pay between $100,000 and $200,000 for demolition and remodeling costs, whereas the average cost to build a new home is between $139,000 and $531,300.

Green homes are often more expensive to build, averaging around $200 per square foot compared to the $150 per square foot you’d spend to build a standard home. However, green homes can save you money on your utility bills by consuming less energy or creating energy using solar panels or wind turbines on-site. They’re more expensive to build, but they often end up costing less in the long run.
