"This firm did a great job for me. They were very prompt did what they said they would do. Added insulation to the Attic to get up to R 49. They fixed a few baffles in the Attic as well. Cleaned up after themselves. The pricing was very competitive. No hassles or strong arm salesmen. I would strongly recommend them for blown in insulation work. Jason was very professional in his handling of this project."

"They were very professional and thorough. They helped us solve multiple issues with mice in attic, poor ventilation and not enough insulation. They replaced the fiberglass insulation with cellulose, air sealed the attic and properly vented the attic. They answered all our questions to our satisfaction and explained the process for the project in detail. Highly recommend!"

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

Applying spackle is a simple DIY project that most people can complete in just a few hours. Even homeowners who have little DIY experience can complete this project in an afternoon. However, if you're uncomfortable with the project or don't have the time, you can always hire a pro to help.

Installing or repairing plaster on ceilings differs slightly from performing the same motions on a wall. You’ll apply slightly less plaster to lower the overall weight of the ceiling. Wall texturing is common, whereas most ceilings are smooth plaster. Tough coat plaster is strong, meaning you can use less while retaining a solid surface.

Regularly in areas prone to moisture or high traffic to catch issues early.

If your home was built before the 1940s and was not remodeled in the past 50 or so years, you probably have plaster walls. Aside from assuming, there are some practical ways to tell if you have plaster walls, including the following: If you knock on the wall and it feels solid, not hollow, if you can’t insert a thumbtack easily, if there are cracks that look like spiderwebs, or if your home has curved, arched, or swirled walls, doorways, or window openings.

If you have an unfinished basement or attic, you could examine the backs of any finished walls to check, too.
