I purchased a deal for air duct cleaning for $89 (valued at $350). It took 1 month to get an appointment, which was not a problem since this was no emergency. The guys were on time, polite and overall very professional. I was very satisfied with the work.

Unfortunately the "creative" (if not deceptive) wording of the deal and the up sale made it a $300 job. OK, I did agree to the additional duct "chemical" treatment but be aware that those deals most likely do not cover the cleaning of whole system. In my place is small (1st fl, condo, ~1000 sq ft.), the supply line is exactly the same size as the return line, as it turned out, the return was not covered by the deal and I had to pay the regular price of $89 for it. The funny thing is that I supposedly got a "deal" valued at $350 for the supply line and vent only... How can the deal be valued at $350 if cleaning the exact same surface (return main and vents) was $89.

So, get a quote for your specific system before buying any deals, if you like the price, you can trust the technicians to do a good job.

"Top-Notch Local HVAC Service. I recently purchased a 24000 BTU Senville LETO Series Mini Split Air Conditioner Heat Pump for my family in Eagleville, MO, our first ever mini split. I called the guys at Leon Plumbing, Heating & Cooling up, and got a time scheduled on my calendar, just a week away. Bad weather forced a reschedule, but these guys kept to their word and showed up at 9 AM to get the job done. Brandon was the HVAC tech who did the install for us and he did a superb job, working tirelessly from 9 AM to 5:00 PM and completing it that day. He would have had it done sooner, but he had to install a disconnect box and replace a circuit breaker. He made sure to check everything with me first, such as the drilling through the walls, location of the unit and radiator, etc. and also was extremely careful with both my mini split unit and the rest of my house. This wasn't even considering the behavior of Brandon himself. I have not met a more professional, kindhearted, and studious home service professional in my life. He was lively in both his conversation with me as son of the home owner and in his work. He treated the job as if he were working on his own home, taking care to not damage anything and ensuring that the unit worked flawlessly. I also had the pleasure of meeting his boss, Jody, who was equally as kind and respectful as his employees, who also made sure that the job was completed in the proper manner. One final tidbit, we had issues with the condensation from our unit dripping in our house the day following our install. I called Brandon up and within a few seconds he had the issue diagnosed and had given me a solution. To date, it works extremely well. The difference between this company and others in the area is night and day. Prior to this job, when I was first looking for a local HVAC contractor, I called another company, which was in Bethany, MO, by the name of Nelso_ Heating & Electric and they were EXTREMELY RUDE and unwilling to do the job that I needed done, aka just a simple mini split installation. For me, the quality of service is what provided the greatest value in this job. Since we had our own unit, not one provided by Leon H&P, the installation was $150 an hour making our total job cost $1642.21. Would I use them again? Absolutely. Their level of professionalism and the quality of their work in this neck of the woods is remarkable. My family and I plan to have them out again to do some plumbing work for us in the future. Long story short, if you need HVAC or plumbing service done, call these guys. You won't regret it."

*** I have recently added the Nashville area to my service coverage. Since I can do most of my services remotely with you over the phone, I am hoping to eventually open up to larger markets and help people from having to take their computer in to get it fixed, if it has internet access, I can usually fix it over the Internet. Just trying to do more to help my Angies List customers!!******** I am a sole proprietor that works out of my home. I am my only employee, but I have over 20 years experience fixing computers, and providing superior customer service. I work on a flat rate service, and don't charge by the hour because I feel it's important to educate the customer on what the issue is/was, and how to avoid it in the future. I feel that local service companies (my competition) have been overcharging customers for years. I offer a first time customer discount of 10% but I will offer 15% off for first time customers referred by Angies List. I've lived in the Huntsville area most all my life, so I know the area very well. I will never use a subcontractor as I am very picky about making sure that if my name and company is associated with something, it will be the best experience my customer has ever had, and using sub contractors won't ensure that, so I prefer to do all the work myself. Lastly, I should point out that I am a former offensive lineman for the University of Southern Mississippi and was Brett Favre's center his freshman year at Southern. I went on to play for Tom Landry in his last year, but gave up pro football early on to pursue my passion of fixing computers. If I didn't have bills to pay, I would do this for free because I love it! If you have a computer problem, I promise you that you couldn't find a better technician that will care about you as a customer, and not about the bottom line. I am always available, but don't always answer my phone, but if you leave a message, I promise to back with you as soon as possible...and figure out how to get your issue resolved in a quick, efficient and economical manner. Thanks so much for reading my ad, and I look forward to working for you!

"Called warranty repair, found out that it was done by a local provider (Flori Heating and Air). I called Flori to schedule an appointment, they were here on time and got things back up, running and cooling. Since it was 95 outside, I appreciated their sense of urgency and calm professionalism, not to mention the quick return of cold air coming out of my vents!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

It depends on the size of the space you’re cooling down. If you’re looking for the most affordable way to cool an entire house over a long period of time, then central air will be more cost-effective. But when it comes to cooling down a couple of rooms or one floor, a window unit may be the cheaper option, with both a lower cost to install and less energy used to run.

Winterizing can still help you save money on energy costs and help prepare your AC for its work next year when you turn it back on. We suggest planning for at least some maintenance, even if winters are mild in your area.

To find a reputable HVAC company, start by researching providers in your area. Look for companies with mostly positive online reviews and check the Better Business Bureau’s website for customer complaints. Next, verify their credentials. Rule out any companies that aren’t licensed, as this is a requirement in some states and municipalities, and confirm they are insured. Once you have a shortlist, contact each professional to ask key questions: How many years of experience do you have? Do you hold any third-party certifications? Do you have experience working on my specific type of HVAC system or brand? Can you provide references? What is your per-hour pricing? Do you offer maintenance contracts for ongoing savings? Do you provide a warranty for your work?

In some cases, yes, portable air conditioners are worth buying. They’re a relatively affordable option for cooling small spaces. (On average, they cost between $100 and $500 per unit.) Plus, they’re easy to set up, and you can move them around to cool various parts of your home as needed. However, they aren’t the most efficient AC option, and they tend to be noisy.

Condensation forms when warmer, outside air combines with cooler air in your ductwork. This can happen when there are leaks in your air ducts, your HVAC system has a dirty air filter, or there’s a lack of insulation around the ducts. To prevent it from happening, replace your HVAC filters as directed. Also, once every five years, hire a local air duct cleaner to clean and inspect them.
