The easiest way to calculate a countertop's square footage is to divide your countertop into squares and rectangles, then multiply the length and the width of each piece in inches before adding them together and dividing by 144.
It is not recommended to put a hot pan directly on a marble countertop. While marble is heat-resistant, it is not completely heat-proof, and extreme or prolonged exposure to high heat can cause discoloration, cracking, or chipping. Pans may also scratch or nick the surface. To protect your countertop and maintain its integrity, always use trivets or hot pads. Note that faux marble finishes do not resist heat and require protection from hot items at all times.
While epoxy resin is generally durable, it is not scratch-proof. Some sources state it is highly resistant to scratches from minor sources, while others note it can scratch and chip easily from sharper or heavier items. To prevent damage, always use a cutting board and avoid sliding heavy or rough-bottomed objects across the surface. If a scratch does occur, be aware that epoxy can be difficult to repair by sanding, often requiring an orbital sander for effective results.
