 + -1 moreWhile the work was done and hopefully will pass inspection, it's not the same level of service they had in the past. I had an electrician come out to assess the work that would need to be done. They stated there would be a $75 service fee that is a part of the quote they gave me. When I got the invoice it was a separate charge, as though it was in addition to what I was quoted. When I called to pay I mentioned this and they said they would take the charge off, due to miscommunication. I paid, hung up, and thought it was done but then a short time later I received another call asking to clarify what was said, and that they are adding the additional $75 charge back in. I have never had a company call me back to say they were adding back in a charge they were removing, all this while I was at work and didn't have time to get into a lengthy conversation about the specifics regarding the miscommunication. This issue, along with wanting 50% charged up front, before any work was done, makes me reconsider ever using Stafford again. Which is a shame because I used Stafford in the past when Paul Stafford owned the company and had nothing but a great experience.

 + 3 moreOn the day of planned service, Stafford called to say the scheduled electrician had called in sick. They had a person available but not until several hours later. They gave me the option to reschedule or have the service done the same day but a later time slot. I elected to go ahead even with the delay. In the end, they had an electrician at my home by 12:00 (the original time slot was between 9-11 a.m.) and he was done with the job by 2:00 p.m. Dave arrived and did the work professionally (as far as I am able to tell) and the fan works well. He explained what he had done and cleaned up afterwards. The cost was about what I expected for the time spent. He then spent time discussing a future project which I am planning on having Stafford do involving kitchen lighting.
Description of Work: Installed new bathroom ventilation/exhaust fan in master bathroom (I had purchased the fan myself). 1.5 hours labor.

 + 2 moreThe initial consultation went smoothly. They showed up on schedule, were quick to understanding what I needed done and to make sure it met code. The installer showed up on time, was very friendly and finished the work in a very timely manner. This was even with him having to go and get a different circuit breaker. Great experience all around.
Description of Work: Had electrical installed for a new bathroom going in my basement. They ran electrical for 2 switches, a GFCI outlet, lights and a fan in the new bathroom to a new circuit.

 + -1 moreThere was a scheduling mix up. I had been told I would get a call about 8:00am to let me know when the service tech would arrive. Road conditions were horrible in the metro area so I waited until 8:30 to call and ask about my appointment. There was a mix up on my scheduling but Stafford had a tech to my house in just under 90 minutes from my call. The tech who arrived was very professional and the thermostat swap was accomplished in a short time. I would use this company again. It lives up to its good reviews. (It's an imperfect world and there are bound to be a few scheduling errors. Company response to error situation was very good.)

 + -1 moreFantastic! I have been staring at the green cord that comes out of that phone jack and down to the computer for many years, and we had to repaint the wall because of other work. I just could not stand the thought of repainting without having that phone jack moved. Steve came out and, within an hour, had moved it. Part of my hesitation was cost. SHS was unwilling to give a firm quote without seeing the actual wiring, but I figured I would take a chance since the cost for the service call itself was just $50. As it turned out, total cost was $190, including the $50 charge for Steve to come out. Am I ever glad I had him come out. It wasn't until that ugly green cord was down next to an outlet and not dangling in full view in our most used room that I realized just how much I was bothered by it. I am thrilled!!
Description of Work: Steve moved a phone jack from its original position, which was for use as a wall phone, to down next to a wall outlet.

 + 1 moreGreat! Kris came out and scoped out the job for us, asked all the right questions to get the job on track. Micah, our electrician went the extra mile with some difficulties he encountered, came back when another circuit in the house went down, possibly getting knocked loose in the process and fixed it. Had to reschedule final bit due to illness, good communication on this and all other issue from the front office person, Peggy.
Description of Work: Removed some old circuits, updated them to arc-fault interrupters, ran new circuits to basement rooms including some light demo, installed new receptacles, outdoor receptacle, and about 10 LED can lights. Also hung a dining room chandelier and ran some cable TV cable. As an extra bonus, since he was having to open up some spaces anyway he ran a new doorbell wire set.

The one I picked involved supplies he did not carry on the truck, so we arranged for him to return the next workday. Both times he arrived within the time window and he called shortly before arrival to confirm. When he left, everything was clean and neat.
Description of Work: Put an extension onto an electrical outlet so that the shorter cord on our new freezer would reach.

 + 3 morethey showed up on time (actually a little early and waited on the street). the work started right away and the first thing they did was cover the entry way and stairs with tarp to keep the dirt away. the work moved along without any problems and everything was done halfway in the afternoon. I paid an extra 99.00 for a overall inspection of the house electrical system. I thought it would be a little deeper inspection then just test outlets and light switches, but ok. they fond on light switch that was not good and replaced that while they were here. all the work was done on time, they were very friendly and careful, the clean up was good and even took time to entertain the house puppy for a few minutes. the only downside of the work was with the tv cable that was moved. after they left around 3-4 pm I went up to hang the tv on the wall and connect all the wires back. that was the time I found out the tv wasn't working. I called the office close to 5 pm and they sent Chuck back to look over the work and find out the problem. after a couple of hours the problem was not solved and I had no tv that night. next day I had my satellite provider show up and fix the problem, it was a connection on the outside of the house that was put in the wrong spot. because it was a simple solution and I am a long time customer that was no charge. prior to the tv company showing up I had spoken to Kris and he assured me that if there was any charges to fix it they would take care of it. but since there was none, no harm no foul, all is good now and would use them again, hopefully a return customer discount will be applied.

I had also hired Stafford to do some electrical work in our main home. I needed to add two lights in my husband's closets, replace an under cabinet light and add lights and recepticles in our garage. Kris and Eric arrived when they said they would, were very professional and very accommendating. I am organizing the garage and setting up a small work shop. They helped me to decide where the placement of the light and switch over the workbence should go. They were also patient with me and answered all my questions. ;-) I just wanted to let you know, I have been hiring Stafford Home Services for our home needs for the last two years.  + 1 moreThe outside outlet, used for lighting holiday lights in winter, got water or moisture in it and threw the master switch in the garage which then cancelled elect in that area of house. When we attempted to reset the switch, a short existed. We pulled the plugs and called electrician. He located the source of the problem, explained it to us and worked around the issue so that we had access to electricity in the garage,(safely). He worked around then issue because another installer had created the problem and that product needed to be repaired by them.
Description of Work: Very knowledgeable and efficient. Spent time explaining the problem and providing preventative information for the future.

The work was finished up in a day. We had an issue with one of the new outlets tripping the circuit breaker. Micah came back and took care of the problem quickly and everything seems to be fine.

 + 0 moreIt went terribly. Stafford's regular furnace guy was unavailable. A young man named Jeremy showed up in his own car. He seemed incapable of determining the source of our problem. When a more senior tech showed up two or three days later, he apologized for Jeremy's service. He told us that we needed to replace the furnace. Two days later, he gave us a three-line bid for a new furnace. After repeated requests for more detail from Stafford, we asked another hvac provider for a bid. Their representative spent almost two hours at our home, taking careful inventory of our needs. We concluded that Stafford wasn't interested in our particular heating needs. When we asked for more detail, we never received a response. On another front, a few years ago, we hired Stafford to help us coordinate our multi-media needs with a single remote. The remote cost nearly $300. We remain unable to access many of the remote's features. We have asked repeatedly for a tech's visit. We have had zero response. I see Stafford's generally high ratings on Angies List. I am happy for everyone who had a successful relationship. We most certainly did not.
Description of Work: One of our two furnaces stopped functioning. We asked them to diagnose the issue.
