I was dissatisfied with AAA and would not recommend them, not because of the quality of their techs, but because they didn't "do the right thing" after selling me a poor quality water heater. They installed -- at a cost of $1300 -- a Lochinvar hot water heater which failed after just 3 years. Despite selling me a water heater which was clearly flawed, AAA charged me another $622 for labor to replace the water heater (which was still under warranty). A company that cared about its customers would have waived the very expensive labor charge vs. charging another $622 to fix the problem.

We were very pleased. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful, and scheduling an appointment was easy. The repairman arrived on time and was friendly, yet professional. My husband wanted to learn more about the interior workings of the oven, and the repairman has no problem teaching him. He had the necessary parts on hand (no small feat given that our oven is over 20 years old) and was able to quickly finish the repair. I actually slowed him down a bit because I wanted to wash the oven door while it was off the hinges. He was very gracious about the wait. He then went “above and beyond” by replacing a missing screw on the door hinge, something that was not part of the original quote, at no charge. I appreciated his thorough cleanup, too. I did not rate price only because I did not get quotes from other companies, so I don’t know how the price compares to the market. However, I felt the price was reasonable for the work performed. I certainly didn’t have the knowledge to attempt the repair myself, and I’m happy to pay for someone else’s expertise.

Tech was professional, quick and honest. Repair was done on schedule. Office was great with scheduling and confirming appointments. Hired AAA after another provider wasn't honest about repair needed (and would have charged us double AAA's price for an unnecessary part).

I could not have been more pleased with what a good job they installation crew did because it was a really big job. My house came with two furnaces and two hot water heaters so I had both of the old hot water heaters replaced with a single tank less hot water heater and so the systems had to be tied into each other. These two guys were here all day and I could not have been any more comfortable with two guys in and out of my house all day.

The guys arrived on a Friday to diagnose the problem with my A/C unit, a 25 year old Carrier system. Quoted me a price that I searched around and found more than competitive and were able to come out the following Monday to install. They sold m ea base system that had a rebate on it as opposed to a higher efficiency and quot;greenerand quot; model I had don research on (was also a $1500 more expensive model that I was fully prepared to buy). They explained that the more expensive sysem was not what my house needed and I would not see the $ benefit. Very honest and upfront.
Came to the house on the Monday, arrived promptly at 9am and were finished by 3pm. Complete new A/C and heat pump system installed and they even replaced the pump on the humidifier. Did a complete heating and cooling system check and made the necessary adjustments where required. Completely set me up for the summer and years to come. Many thanks!

We had smoke coming from our dryer and called Dunlap Service for repair.
Positives:
The schedulers answered the phone right away and were very friendly.

They were able to schedule an appointment the same day.
The technicion (Jack) has been repairing appliances for over 30 year and was friendly and fast. He explained what he was doing and what we need to do to prevent this happening again (lint was building up inside the dryer cabinet due to improper venting).

Negatives:
The scheduler explained that there was a charge of $49.95 to come out for a service visit/estimate on a regular dryer and $69.95 for a stackable. If they actually perform work this charge is waived. My only issue with this is that their website says 'free in-home estimates.' I don't think they should put this on their website if they charge for coming out. Since we had work done, the charge was absorbed and it was no big deal.
They don't give you any timeframe whatsoever for scheduling the appointment so you have to stay home all day long waiting for them to come. They just call when they're on their way.

All went well. Our gas dryer died. We called for service. The repairman diagnosed the problem and ordered the replacement motor. When came back to repair, found upon replacement that the replacement motor was damaged. Had to order another motor. Came back and replaced it when another motor came in. The service was great except for the usual appointment issues that one has with repairman (morning or afternoon appointment with no idea as to when they'll show up).

After several unsatisfactory dealings we, sadly, decided to go to another company. We had worked with Dunlap for many years and felt badly about having to make the change.

I thought the rate was high. They charged me $190 for changing the thermostat component. The service was excellent I just thought the fee was high since the little piece was probably fairly cheap. He was very kind and professional but because of the price I would be more likely to go with the full warranty package that is offered by Sears.

The technician, Steve #395, checked the furnace and said that it was already clean. But, since he was here he went ahead and "cleaned" it and replaced the dehumidifier filter. While he was here he promoted the company's service of duct cleaning several times. Prior to the "cleaning" the filter required changing every 4-5 month. After Steve performed his service, my already clean furnace immediately required a new filter every other week. And the filters were absolutely filthy. All of this occurred despite the fact that my furnace was clean before Steve "cleaned" it. After having to replace the filter four times over the next two months, I called Dunlap's back in February and explained the situation. The woman I spoke with, I believe her name was Sherrie, said she would send Steve back out to see what was going on. He came back, looked at the furnace, did something, said it was fine and then took the cap off one of my ducts, said the duct was dirty and needed to be cleaned and that was the problem. What a surprise! He was still hawking the expensive duct cleaning. I told him my ducts were no dirtier than they were two months ago before he "cleaned" my furnace and that my filter required changing only every four months then. He charged me $89.95 for the service call to come back and undo whatever he had done to my furnace. And, of course, gave me an estimate to have the ducts cleaned. I told him I had no intention of paying the $89.95. He told me to call Sherrie and talk with her and that she surely would not make me pay when I felt so strongly. Well, she did insist that I pay. I have been dunned every month since. By the way, immediately after Steve left, my furnace miraculously reverted to requiring filter changes every 4-5 months. What a racket!

Dunlap's was prompt and nice but there was a major internal miscommunication between the estimator and the workers, and I did not monitor their work throughout the day, so they actually missed the entire point of the project (which was to make more headroom in the basement). It was a waste of a day and a lot of manpower, but they were responsive and came back and made it right with no additional labor charges (we paid for additional materials, which they requested and we felt was fair). The wording on the estimate accurately described the work we wanted done and we were on a schedule, so the delay was disappointing. We realized later that some of the work performed didn't turn out as we hoped (i.e., some of the rerouting resulted in greatly reduced airflow to our second floor; a ductwork intersection was very leaky resulting in my husband fixing it himself, etc.). It was a complicated project and they did a decent enough job, but because it was kind of troublesome we would seek out another service provider before using Dunlaps again. Still, they were trustworthy, their pricing was fair, and they were pleasant, which is a lot more than I can say for most of the contractors we dealt with when we finished our basement.

My association with Dunlap's began last spring, when a technician serviced my daughter's AC in a nearby town and impressed me with his knowledge, complete explanations, and recommendations tailored to her needs as an absentee landlord. When Joe Dunlap came to my house to bid on my own work, I knew he would put the long-term reputation of the company ahead of any sales commission (unlike another salesman who bid for the job with a very hard sell). He helped me to decide on the best equipment for ME and offered what I considered a fair price. He made certain the equipment was configured to meet specifications for both DTE rebates and federal tax credits for furnace, AC, and ECM (unlike a third salesman, who told me certain equipment qualified when I knew it did not). My biggest concern was getting a quality installation, and Dunlaps' did not disappoint. Tim Redman and Mike Hatfield did a beautiful and craftsmanlike job of rerouting and reconfiguring pipes and ducting. They adapted to my existing SpaceGuard air cleaner, ducts, gas line, electrical service; put in new 3/4-inch drain line and 2-inch PVC vents through the brick wall. They sealed the brick opening, the previous opening through a basement window, the ductwork they did AND poorly sealed existing ducts. They tested all operations and instructed me well before leaving. My yard and utility room were left neater than when they arrived. I could not be more pleased — and sincerely recommend Dunlap's to others, both for service and installation.
