"The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

"Craig was very professional and thorough. He made us feel comfortable and confident that the work would be done properly and on schedule. In the end, we decided to downsize in the next year or two and not to invest the money in this house. Had we decided to stay here, we would have gone with Hammer Time. We did talk to two other contractors both of which made us uncomfortable that they would deliver the same quality as Hammer Time.

"Jeff was there everyday working, sometimes into the evening to complete the bathroom remodel. We had two other contractors working on other parts of our home and they were not reliable and the quality of work was questionable. I was I had used Home Advisor when we began the whole house remodel. Will definitely use Lighthouse again."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

Modular homes are more affordable than stick-built homes if you keep quality and square footage equal. The cost to build a home averages $323,000, while average modular home prices sit at {AvgCost}. If you’re looking for custom or luxury options, a traditional custom home costs $825,000, while a high-end modular home costs $600,000, on average.

Building a new home can be more expensive than buying an existing one, depending on the housing market in your area. Many homeowners still find that building a new house is worth the investment as they can choose the exact layout they want, as well as to choose their own floors, wall coverings, appliances, and finishes. If you live close enough to the build site, you can also stop by to check on the builder’s progress, which can provide some peace of mind that the project is worth it.

The most significant expense when building a barndominium is constructing the metal shell, which includes the roof, doors, and windows. Additional exterior components impacting the overall cost include metal siding and the concrete foundation.

Modular homes last an average of between 50 and 75 years, and high-quality modular homes can last for 100 years with proper maintenance. For comparison, a standard home lasts 50 to 100 years and can push to 150 or longer with good maintenance. Modular homes provide better long-term value in that they are significantly more affordable and can last almost as long, but some buyers are wary of modular home longevity, so the actual value if you sell could be lower.

In most cases, you should get an architect before you hire a builder. An architect will be the one to draw up formal plans for your project, including guidelines and even material lists for your builder to follow during construction. Many architects can even help you find builders, choose one for your project, and negotiate prices. Some are also willing to act as project managers throughout the process, working closely with a builder from start to finish.
