"It was a big build. Coordination of trades was important. Their work to navigate permits with multiple government agencies kept the project on track and on budget. . It's drawn a lot of neighborhood attention. One of the goals was to make this large shop fit into the neighborhood. Job well done."

Customers say: Quality work

"Can?t enough good things about Marc at Kenyon Construction. His years of experience as a custom homebuilder are evident in everything he does, but what impresses me most is his integrity, patience, and genuine commitment to his clients. Marc is an incredible listener and problem solver. He has spent countless hours looking at potential lots with me, carefully identifying potential challenges and unexpected costs, and has even steered me away from properties that could have turned into very expensive mistakes. He has taken me through model homes and one of his own custom builds to help me figure out what I love?and what I don?t. He has invested a tremendous amount of time and energy helping me find the right opportunity, even when there was no guarantee that a project would come from it. I still haven?t found my ideal lot, but that certainly isn?t for lack of effort on Marc?s part. I trust Marc completely. I trust his judgment, his experience, and most importantly, his integrity"

"Rob removed a (large) gas fireplace (including piping and fake chimney structure) in our living room and put in a sliding glass door. He also built a 16X16 deck off the door. He is dependable and did an excellent job. The door and deck look like they were always there. Rob has done work for us before and we highly recommend him to anyone looking for quality work."

"Loay Jabbar provided the information I needed quickly and clearly. I immediately signed up for full coverages for our two homes because of the discounts offered and because of the quality of service that Loay is saying and promising Choice Home Warranty provides to its customers. I have bad experiences with other home warranty companies so I am hoping I found the best company that would deliver the best service."

"The technician did an excellent job. It did take a while to get the repair finished, but that was due to Bertazzoni delivering the parts. I have had multiple problems with this particular appliance. My range now works better than it did when new, but I have a feeling that even if I have continuing problems with it, American Home Shield will just repair rather than replace due to the cost of the range. By the way, I'm not exactly sure of the date of the repair."

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

Framing is often the most expensive phase of building a house because it’s time-consuming and requires a lot of materials. It costs between $20,000 and $50,000 on average, depending on materials and labor costs. Before construction begins, it’s possible that purchasing land is the priciest step in the process. Some plots of land sell for $3,000, while others cost upwards of $150,000.

It pays to hire a project manager or general contractor when you have a large-scale project that will take over a week to complete, especially when it involves structural changes and multiple subcontractors. This includes hiring a general contractor to build a house, add an extension, or manage other projects that need a building permit.

The average cost to build a modular home is around $270,000, and most modular homes total between $180,000 and $360,000. Of course, this price varies significantly by location, and the price tends to follow the cost of living in the area. There are quite a few other factors at play that can affect your pricing, including the following:

  • Number of bedrooms and bathrooms

  • Site preparation, including land clearing and leveling

  • Type of foundation

  • Utility connections

  • Cost of building permits

Typically, architects do not build homes in a hands-on sense of doing the actual framing, roofing, or other building. Architects usually do not have the training and experience to build the homes they design. An architect would need to know how to do the specific trades required to build a house, which is possible but not a common practice. A general contractor or homebuilder typically oversees the actual details of building the house that the architect designs.

Modular homes can go up or down in value depending on a few factors. In areas where real estate is appreciating, the value of modular homes is likely to increase, and vice versa. Additionally, the value of modular homes depends partially on the area. In cities where every other home is stick-built, modular homes might be considered a functional obsolescence, in which case they could be less desirable and go down in value. In either case, though, modular homes can still be a good investment, especially since they provide housing at a lower upfront cost.
