"Brian Cox has installed a new oak staircase and railings for us. The work was exceptional and he completed it in a timely manner. He has also completed numerous other tasks including electrical, painting and has also fixed and repaired jobs that were completed or, should I say, half-assed by other so-called contractors. He has an innate ability to design and create wood working projects that has us only going to him for any of our projects. We would highly recommend him to anyone. Todd and Patty Boyd."

Spindles on a deck may also be called balusters or pickets. While not as important to the structural support of the deck as the rail posts, they play a critical role in ensuring the deck is safe to use by closing in large gaps in the railing. For this reason, balusters must be no more than 4 inches away from one another.

A contract should outline the scope of work, timelines, costs, payment schedule, and materials used for clarity and protection.

You don’t need a cutting board. In fact, cutting is the original purpose of butcher block countertops. That said, wood is porous and can harbor germs. You’ll need to clean your countertop thoroughly after use. Knives can also scratch the surface. This adds to the patina of the wood, but not everyone likes the look—in which case, you may want to use a cutting board.

Yes, many repair services include blade sharpening as part of the maintenance package.

Whether or not it’s easier to cut wood when it’s wet versus dry depends largely on the type of tool you use and the wood you’re cutting. For example, a chain saw should still be able to cut through wet wood with relative ease, but it may be more difficult to maneuver due to the wood fibers sticking to the chains of the saw.

However, you might want to avoid cutting wood entirely when it’s wet if you’re pruning your tree. Sawing a wet tree that you don’t plan on removing can also encourage bacterial and fungal growth and decay.
