"While the crew did excellent work, the major let down was Dan between the way the job was quoted and the way he builled made sure the estimate came out to the higher end of the quote, also he had a habit of telling his crew to do things without consulting the customer and these were things that added to cost. Also I accidentally overpaid him and are still waiting for the refund."

Yes, you can apply the stucco yourself, but it is a time- and labor-intensive project, especially on the exterior of a whole house. DIY stucco is better suited for repairing stucco siding or siding a smaller building, such as a shed or garage. The same recommendation applies to painting a stucco house, which should be left in the reliable hands of a professional exterior painter. Inexperienced DIYers can make several critical mistakes during stucco application, such as:

  • Failing to apply sufficiently thick layers for longevity and water resistance

  • Uneven application

  • Uneven texture across the exterior

  • Mixing the stucco improperly, leaving a weak structure

  • Failing to texture properly in between coats, leading to cracking and chipping

Whether or not it’s cheaper to build a pizza oven depends largely on what style you opt for and which tools and materials you already have. For example, having a surplus of leftover fire bricks from another DIY project will reduce the amount you need to build a new pizza oven and cut costs to boot. On the flip side, if you don’t have any of the required materials, buying a pre-made option will be cheaper and require far less work to set up—between just $300 and $1,000 for the best versions.

Many general contractors can handle adding stucco siding, but it’s best to hire a local stucco contractor as you’re more likely to get a clean finish on your stucco siding that maximizes curb appeal. Stucco can be a challenging material to work with, so hiring a professional contractor who has years of experience and specializes in stucco application is advisable.
