"Omar and his crew of brothers did an excellent job. Not only did they clean my chimney, they also replaced chimney liners for my wood boiler and also my oil burner. They did this all in the first service at my home. They removed and replaced professionally my unsafe liners immediately after informing me that the liners were unsafe. "I called for a free estimate, Justin came promtly and inspected the chimey. He showed me pictures of the problems and spelled out all the options. I explained to him that my cellar has floode due the problems and was anxious to get the repairs done. Justin quoted a price that was fair and much lower then any other estimates. To my surprise he said that he could do the job that day. He kept sending me pictures as the work progressed so I knew exactlywhat he was doing. He was professional and honest about what needed to be done. I was more then pleased with him and the company. I highly recommend .Chimneys are us."

Moss grows in dark areas of roofs, including in corners and gutters. If left alone, it can grow under roofing and cause permanent damage. Here’s how to remove moss from metal roofs: 

  • Soak the moss to soften it

  • Scrub it away with a soft-bristled brush, or pick it off with your hands (be sure to wear gloves)

  • Use a moss remover that’s compatible with metal roofing, following the manufacturer’s directions

  • Remove dead moss and rinse the roof thoroughly

  • Prevent future moss growth by trimming branches, cleaning gutters, and attaching zinc strips to moss-prone areas

It may require stronger cleansers or chemicals, higher-pressure spray, or scrubbing to completely remove algae from a metal roof. Start with a mild cleanser; if that doesn’t work and you're comfortable doing so, use a stronger mix of ⅓ cup of laundry detergent, 1 quart of bleach, and 3 quarts of water to gently scrub the algae with a soft-bristled brush. If algae is present across large portions of your roof, doesn’t come off with gentle scrubbing and cleansers, or is in hard-to-reach areas, this may be a job better left to a pro.

There are several ways to remove snow from your roof: using a snow rake, salting the roof with calcium chloride, using a rope (cautiously), and using heating cables. It’s important to mention that pretty, fluffy, sparkling snow weighs a great deal, and when physically removing snow from a roof, you should be aware of large snow slabs breaking off. These can weigh hundreds of pounds and are a real danger, so be extremely careful anytime you’re doing this type of work.

It can be dangerous to remove icicles from your roof, so the best option is to treat the underlying issue instead, usually by ensuring proper insulation in your home. If you’re concerned about immediate damage, you can hire a professional to remove the icicles and the snow accumulation on your home to prevent the issue from recurring. Just make sure you use a long-term solution, too, like addressing insulation problems or installing roof heating coils on your roof.
