Doug was fantastic. He arrived early and explained everything he was checking. I'm a first time homebuyer and knew very little about regular home maintenance. He went over all the major appliances in the home and told me how to take care of them. He also gives a maintenance book where you can keep track of all repairs and additions you make to the home!

I would highly recommend Doug at Anderson Home Inspection to EVERY home buyer. He arrived early and spent a thorough four to five hours reviewing every detail of a house we were considering. He was very honest with us, while maintaining practicality and not making minor issues seem like a big deal. Doug arrived early, brought his own equipment and gave us several tips and pointers for obtaining estimates for problems, and what would need to be updated for an FHA appraiser. Several times during the home inspection he said to me "Well if you were my daughter..." I could tell that he took his work seriously and felt a sense of duty to find and explain every detail he saw. I really appreciated how caring and how passionate he was about his job. Because of his attention to detail and his honesty we ended up walking away from a house that would have quickly burned a hole in my pocket and left me in extensive debt. With a new offer in on a different house I will definitely be calling Doug again!

Very good experience. I called the company based on positive reviews. When I first called I expected to leave a message but Doug answered directly, on his way from a job site. I had a very tight timeframe to schedule: I called on a Monday and wanted something no later then the end of the week. Doug had one opening and was able to confirm me for Friday afternoon. He also thanked me for my business. On the day of the appointment Doug was early; when I arrived he was inspecting the HVAC system. He explained how to work many of the mechanical features of the house and reviewed basic maintenance steps. He's a former police officer so he also added some useful tips regarding making a house an unattractive target for burglars. The house is four years old and Doug found very little of concern, four small items. His report was handwritten and no photos were taken; as such he gave me the completed report at the end of the inspection, along with a copy for my real estate agent. The price was typical for a home inspector, though overall I think a bit high considering the output. Being a fan of Holmes Inspection on HGTV, Doug didn't find anything that I didn't also see, but the advantage of course is that the official report gave me an oppertunity to bargain with the sellers and netted a $250 reduction in the sales price (as noted, there wasn't much of concern with the house). While I won't be buying a house anytime soon, I'd call Doug again if I needed an inspection.

Outstanding! Doug arrived about 30 minutes early and started with the outside of the home. He is very knowledgeable about homes and is more than willing to share his expertise. He is very energetic and looks everywhere. He is very engaging and relates well to people. Overall, he spent about 3 hrs inspecting our property which was more than expected. I highly recommend Doug. You will not be disappointed.
Description of Work: Doug completed a home inspection for our home which we have lived in since 1966. He reviewed everything, outside landscaping, gutters, porches, roof, spent a lot of time in the basement (who knew it was so interesting???!!!!) and in the main floors looking at electrical and plumbing and more. He provided a detailed write-up at the end of the home inspection.

Doug arrived on time. He inspected everything and told us everything he was looking at and for. He pointed out things we needed to know appliances, etc. He did not 'rush' through the inspection and after he was done inspecting he sat down with us and went through the binder he was leaving with us. The binder covered the aspects of the inspection with all of his notes. We would highly recommend Doug to anyone needing a home inspection and we would use him in the future if we buy another house. We also felt we 'got our money's worth' with the inspection.

Doug was by far the most affordable option. He spent time explaining everything we needed to understand to make purchasing our first home as easy as it could be. He was punctual, extremely thorough, and very professional. He found every little problem and explained how to fix it. I would definitely use his service again if we needed it, and I highly recommend him!

We were impressed with Doug's professionalism and knowledge. He was "brutally honest" (his words) about what we needed to do before moving in and gave us suggestions for what work could safely be done later. He explained everything, (we had lots of questions) and he answered everything in a manner that was respectful and professional. I would highly recommend Doug to anyone!
Description of Work: We inherited a property, an older home in the Bel Air area and needed to know what repairs we needed to do before moving in. Doug performed a complete inspection outside and inside from attic to basement. He gave us a wonderful binder explaining what he found, the approximate remaining lifespans of major appliances, heating, AC, roof etc, along with suggestions for maintaining our future home.

Fantastic. Amazing. Hire this man! Doug was exactly what I needed to help me make an informed real estate purchase. He arrived super early (and I was there early too) and was beyond thorough. For a 2400 sq ft townhouse, it took him about 2 1/2 to 3 hours to complete the job. Literally there was not a corner of the townhouse that was untouched. He explored the basement, the sump pump, the exterior, the attic, every sink, every appliance, each closet and tested every single darn outlet in the place! He brought two ladders with him, one indoor and one outdoor. He meticulously took notes in the binder that he provided and was willing to answer any/every question that I had, that my boyfriend had, that my realtor's assistant had...frankly, if I had called my mom, he probably would have talked to her on the phone too. Thanks to his thorough approach and meticulous inventorying of every flaw, potential flaw and outright incorrectly done thing, I was able to make an informed decision about my purchase. While my original renovation budget was in the $20k range, his inspection found numerous additional areas of concern (thankfully not mold!) which in turn led to me to realize that $40-$50k worth of work would be needed to make the house habitable. Truly his professionalism, experience in the industry and approachable attitude made the process much better for me as a first-time homebuyer. Not once did he talk down to me nor did he talk at me -- we had a conversation as two equals and he was sure to provide the most positive atmosphere to make the experience one to appreciate and enjoy rather than dread and avoid. I highly recommend Doug. I plan to use him again in the future as my house-hunt continues... PS: As an avid "Holmes on Homes" and "Holmes Inspection" viewer, I felt as though Doug would have the approval of Mike. From the cool tools he whipped out to measure the moisture content of sheetrock in the basement to the outlet testing and extensive attic exploration, I felt like I was almost on an episode of "how homes should be inspected" :-)

I am a first-time home buyer, and my knowledge of home inspections is limited to what I've seen on HGTV. Doug did a fantastic job explaining every aspect of the inspection process. I had a very clear understanding of what Doug was looking for throughout the job. He actually arrived early to the home and had finished inspecting the roof by the time I arrived. Still, he led me outside and thoroughly explained his findings. Doug provided a very thorough report, which I was able to take home with me at the end of the inspection. You need to request photos. Wish photos did not cost extra ($30 for a disc). By the way, Doug is a big Rodney Dangerfield fan, so be prepared to hear a bunch of jokes.

I was in need of a Rental House inspector to do an inspection on two rental house for the license renewal. Baltimore County sent out the forms late and then required me to RUSH to have the houses reinspected for the license renewal. The company I used to the inspections several years ago was not prompt in returning my call and then was not able to do the inspection before the March 1st. deadline. So I came to Angies list and looked for inspectors in my area who would be able to do this soon, I was hoping. I came across Anderson Home Inspection, they had all A's and lots of great reviews and they were in my neighborhood, so I called them on the 27th. Doug called my back on the 28th in the morning and told me he would be in this area a little later in the morning would I be available to do the inspections today!!! I was thrilled and said by all means. Doug arrived on time, was very nice and easy to deal with and very thorough with his inspections. Very professional and seems to know what he is doing and looking for. I was very impressed! The houses were good to go and I was able to meet my March 1st deadline! I will surely use them again and highly recommend them to anyone who needs a rental house inspected or a new house inspected!

We hired Doug to look over one property. He did a thorough job, working with our realtor closely (as hard as that probably was) and yet taking the time to call afterwards and fill me in completely as to "what was found", "what was wrong" and "how much it would probably cost to get it fixed". Doug is the consumate professional and a sincerely good man. Hard working, and tough to get scheduled (he is very busy working straight through some week-ends we were involved with) and very knowledgable on many aspects of home issues He provided service for the one house - and, it fell through for us... sadly. We hired him on the next one - and, the same fine service with a binder describing all the issues found, the inspection conducted and the manner with which we might move forward. He missed a couple of things that later cost us about 200$ to get fixed... but they were not obvious and he saved us about 5k$ overall with his finework. I would recommend this gentleman any time any place. Use him - it was a great help to us in reality and simply to assauge our sensitivities while we were thousands of miles away in another state and unable to be present.

I learned about Doug from my realtor and checked his company on Angieslist . Doug is very punctual to his appointments as a matter of fact his was already at the home. He began explaining the purpose and goal of the home inspection. Doug explained everything and made sure that I understood his explanations. He gives you the legal terms of what should be reported by law, but then explains things in better detail in layman's terms, which was most helpful. Upon his departure, the information he left us with in pages of detailed written reports with a binder, which will help keep excellent records of all being done. Doug is very passionate about his work and puts in little humor which helped ease my nervousness as this is my first time buying a house. I brought my nephew with me, he is a licensed contractor. My nephew was really impressed with Doug. I highly recommend this company. He must be is one of the best inspectors in the field.
Thanks for the kind words. Just a reminder, the pricing included a radon gas test at 120.00

I learned about Doug after reading the reviews of the members here, and decided to give him a go. Upon early arrival at a neglected foreclosed home in Baldwin, Doug was already halfway into his first page of reporting, while inspecting the basement, and I had arrived almost 20 minutes early. Try to get there before Doug does; he believes in an early arrival (which helps with positive feedback). He began explaining things to me, but I had to cut him off since my wife was arriving soon. Doug had no problem explaining everything again, and makes sure that everyone understands his explanations. He gives you the legal terms of what should be reported by law, but then explains things in better detail in layman's terms, which was most helpful. Upon his departure, the information he left us with in pages of detailed written reports (with a binder, which will help keep excellent records of all being done), was most helpful to put us on the right path in our effort to see just how much it might cost to give such a unique and beautiful home the love and attention it sorely deserves. Doug's passion is what more companies need. Anyone on Angie's List has a passion for what they want provided, and Doug provides that (plus some really funny comedy by the time the job is wrapped up!). This home, built in 1890, has become very sick, needlessly. A sad perfect storm has made this home more sick by the day, and getting to work with Doug has helped us take the right steps to make a more informed decision, and become a bit frustrated at the foreclosure process. Doug explained his own frustration in seeing these once happy homes becoming sick (a growing epidemic) as banks keep them locked and winterized, unable to breathe (through no fault of their own). Doug's first order of business was to open all the doors to get some air circulating, which is necessary on a regular basis to keep a home healthy. He will return tomorrow to complete the radon test, and will try to figure just what's beneath the home. Doug has helped immensely. I just want to add, that companies that own foreclosures should truly consider allowing people to continue living in these homes to keep them active and alive, because what's happening now, is that the homes will simply lose more value when each prospective buyer rejects it because the cost to gut a home will cost way too much. Doug said he sees it all the time, that a vacant home goes bad very fast. At least finding people like him might help making one foreclosed home that much better, but we could be too late for this one. This is my first feedback since I'm a new member. Initially I was very satisfied with the report but there was a series of things that made me reconsider: First, when I reviewed the pages, my wife and her father couldn't read some of the hand-written statements. Doug didn't crawl under the home's newer section until I asked him about it. This was after a contractor went under the section on his own and told me about it. When I asked Doug, he gladly did that, when he picked up the Radon test kit. Honestly, the other thing that made me reconsider, was when I got a detailed report of a home inspection performed about two months ago, from a home inspection company. The report was structured well, detailed (over 40 pages), searchable (provided as a pdf file) and had goobs of supporting images to back up the report. Doug did not take any photos. I had thought that he could use an iPad or something to document everything, but it was handwritten on carbonless copy paper, with the second sheet to be provided to the realtor.
Thanks for the kind words. Just a reminder, the pricing included a radon test at 120.00. Photographs are always taken upon request, or when the buyer can not be at the inspection to see the issues discussed first hand. The crawl space was thoroughly examined on a return trip, two days later when the radon was retrieved, as the entrance was not clearly visible on first inspection (heavily wood shrubs behind the house). A follow-up report on the crawl space was e-mailed to the buyer.

The company was the first to respond to my service request and scheduled an appointment within a few days, to fit my schedule. The owner, Doug, was at the condo inspection site even before the appointment time, to talk to the staff about various aspects of the condo operations. He provided a thorough inspection with explanations that were understandable to someone like me who is not too knowledgeable about how the systems within a home operate. He provided an accurate report as well as a helpful binder of general homeowner information. I am thoroughly pleased with the inspection and the information it provided me to make a well-informed choice about the condo purchase.

Doug was very friendly, got there on time and started the inspection around the house even before we got there. Doug was very knowledgeable and helpful. He took his time inspecting the house and explaining various dos and dont's. Was very patient and took his time explaining to us various things as we were 1st time homebuyers'. I have had several home inspections in the past but the inspector I had used is apparently not in business any longer. I used Angie's List to find Anderson Home Inspection and I was pleased with this service. When I called the office I was able to get an appointment which perfectly fit my schedule. Doug came out right on time and performed a thorough inside and out inspection of a home that I am buying. The home is approx 2900 sq ft above grade plus a basement and the inspection took about 3 hours. Doug is a nice guy who provided some advice that I had not heard before and he also put together a nice written work product which will not only assist with the sale but will be used as a reference product for many years.

Overall, the experience was good. He came out and inspected the home, using a very systematic check-off list. The technician was prompt, professional, and his prices were reasonable. He went over the entire house in detail, and also answered any questions that I had. The good part about his service was that he left a loose-leafed binder with everything that he had done, in writing. The tenants just moved out today, so now we'll begin to systematically go through the home and do whatever needs to be done. I'm satisfied with the services.
