Karibu Contractors LLC was formed in February 2005 as a Home Improvement Corporation dedicated to private and residential design and construction. With our specialized knowledge and experience in renovations and additions, our primary operations range from single-family and multi-family dwellings to commercial buildings. Our clients and projects are diverse and are located locally and as far north as Boston. Our dedication to a holistic approach towards the services we provide offers an alternative to traditional Home Improvement Corporations. We do not employ a standard formula approach to any project; each client/project is treated uniquely and with equal intensity and care.

"The project was supposed to take seven days according to the contract, and one month later, it has barely moved. The paint job in the bedroom was fine, in the bathroom it was terrible. He claims that workmanship is to be performed to the highest industry standard, but: (1) he does not know how to read blueprints; (2) he does not know that 84" and 7' are the same length; (3) and he does not know how to finish any project. He started the painting, and the shower, and the cabinets, etc., but not one job was actually finished. Now we have to pay to have someone come in and redo most of his work. He does not take any pride in his work and the job site is a mess. Do NOT use him."

We are a Landscape Design/Build Firm that has been in business for over 40 years! ALL of our work is completed 'in house' by our crews (except decks and pools). Our attention to detail and craftsmanship puts us above the competition. We are family and woman owned. Please give us a call at 410-956-5292. MHIC#83262.

"We had the Landscape Design Center install an irrigation system from our roof gutters under the back yard, and then regrade our side walkway and add a flagstone walkway. They did a great job. One of the ways they really stood out was in diagnosing our water issues, and explaining where excess water was running out of our previous system. Their team was very professional and spent a lot of care situating the flagstones and organizing plants around them. They also provided the most competitive bid we received. I would definitely use them again for future landscape work."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, brick houses are better insulated, because the bricks slow down the passage of air from the outside to the inside and vice-versa. This helps to stabilize the internal temperature of the home. When combined with proper residential insulation, brick houses are more efficient and better insulated than other types.

Yes, staining your home’s brick is a great idea if you’re looking to freshen up its appearance. It’s also helpful for preserving your bricks so they don’t crack or chip over time. Finally, staining your bricks is a perfect DIY project, as most handy homeowners can do the project in a few days.

No, you shouldn’t lay bricks directly on dirt. While it might seem like a shortcut, it leads to a patio that shifts, sinks, and becomes a maintenance headache. Dirt expands, contracts, and erodes—none of which mix well with long-term stability. To build something that lasts, excavate the topsoil, compact a layer of crushed gravel, and add a coarse sand-setting bed. This layered base gives your bricks proper support, allows drainage, and helps block weeds from creeping through. Cutting corners here just means you’ll spend more time—and money—repairing your brick patio later.

Real stone is exactly what it sounds like: It’s real stone sourced from the earth without additives. It is durable and unique, but it’s difficult to work with because of its weight, challenge in sourcing, and high cost. Stone veneer mimics the look of real stone but is actually engineered with a mixture of Portland cement, natural minerals, and a colorant. While it’s more affordable and easier to work with, it’s less durable and may appear manufactured to the trained eye.

If your old bricks are in decent condition and you have the space to store them where they’ll be protected from the elements, keeping old bricks is often worthwhile. You’d spend anywhere from $70 to a few hundred dollars to have them removed from your property, in which case you won’t be able to use them for future projects. Holding on to old bricks in good condition means you can use them later for other DIY projects, potentially saving yourself some money on disposal and new materials down the road.
