He did an excellent job. We had tried several other times to get the job done, but he was so much better than anyone we had used before. He was able to fix the problem in a timely manner. He did what he said he was going to do. It has been fine ever since. He was punctual, responsive, and professional. I would use his services again.

Dan Burke walked the entire roof before giving us the estimate. Their crew worked very fast; it took 2 and a half days because we had several vents added and our roof is large. Dan and Ralph Burke both worked with the crew for a couple of hours the first day. Dan handled a tricky area himself on the last day of the job, and used rubber roofing in that spot to ensure we won't have leaks - this was not in the contract, he just felt it would serve us better. They did a great job of cleanup - much better than the crew who replaced our roof on a different house a few years ago. There was one bit of damage, to outdoor holiday lights. They told me to send the receipt for replacements and they sent a reimbursement check immediately, with a note apologizing for the inconvenience. I am so glad we chose them for our roof; it looks fantastic! Our neighbors had them do a repair on their roof this past summer. The Burkes got the repair done a day before a major storm, so the neighbors are also very pleased with this company.
Description of Work: They replaced our roof (had to remove old shingles and some of the old paper) and added several vents to more adequately protect it. The vents were at our request, not an 'upsell' - when we bought the house our home inspector suggested we have them added with the next roof work. By the way, they were kind enough to do the work before winter hit, since we had a minor leak - it was fairly brisk weather, too.

Dan Burke was very gracious and repaired my four year old roof (installed by another roofer). He was knowledgeable about roofs and he explained to me in simple terms why my new roof was falling off. It was basic and the other roofer should have known what was needed to keep the roof shingles in place. I wish I utilized Dan to install the roof and in the near future I will need a new roof, and I couldn't think of a better roofing company than Ralph Burke Roofing to get the job done right. Thanks Dan Burke.

I called Ralph Burke Roofing in August to obtain an estimate to install a new roof for for my mother?s house. I left a message and received a response back within a couple of hours. I spoke to a very helpful lady who set up a time next week for an estimate. Dan Burke arrived right on time for the estimate. He took the time to sit down with me and my mother and go over what the job would entail. Dan provided us with the estimate on the same day. At that time, I was in the process of getting other estimates and comparing them. Dan?s estimate was close to the other?s that I received. As I had questions on the estimate, I would call Dan and my calls were responded to within the hour. Dan was very patient and answered all my questions. As I was continuing to review the estimates received, hurricane Irene?s tropical storm arrived on that Sunday. As a result, my mother?s roof leaked into her living room and caused additional water stains in a bedroom. The next day I made a decision to select Burke Roofing for the job. Dan told me it wouldn?t be too long before he could get to the job and the next day he told me he could start the job. I told him I didn?t get a chance to let the neighbors know (their driveway is close to house with cars parked). Dan was very accommodating and said he would start on the opposite side. He also asked our neighbors if he could use their driveway while working. They started on a Wednesday around 9:00 am and had a crew of six very hard working men. At 5:30, they were finished cleaning up, both my mother?s area and our neighbor?s driveway. They came back the next day to add the flashing to the chimney and vents and were done at 10:00 am Thursday. Since I was at work while Dan started the job, he kept me informed by phone. He did call me to say he found the boards under the shingles not very good quality. They were very old hard wood with many knots in them. As they tried to nail the shingles to the boards, the nails would go right through the holes where the knots used to be. He suggested installing plywood over the boards. Dan was always on job with his crew. His crew was very hardworking and respectful of the property. They were very polite and professional and they cleaned up beautifully ? not one nail to be found. Dan was a pleasure to work with. I am glad I made the decision to select him. He showed much integrity and pride in his work and company. He is a decent, respectful business person who I was able to trust with his knowledge and judgment. I was very impressed from the first point of contact. His mother works for the company and answers the phone. She is very responsive and if a message is left, a response is received promptly. I also had contact with the company in February this year. My mother had some ice dams and we called many roofers. When I called Burke roofing, Mrs. Burke answered the phone. She was very helpful and very kind. This was my first experience with ice dams and was a bit nervous. She was very comforting explaining about ice dams and what I could do. Dan did come down a day later and shoveled the roof. My decision to pick Burke Roofing over other roofers was because: The good reviews they received on Angies List; Their many years of experience in roofing and length of time they have been in business. The business started with their grandfather, the father, now the two sons, Dan and Ralph Jr. Dan has been in the roofing business for a long time and has a lot of experience; Their expertise is in roofing/gutters; and Their responsiveness; they were always reachable and always returned calls. My experience with Dan and his crew at Ralph Burke Roofing was excellent. I admire them for their reliability, knowledge and how they treat their customers with respect. And last, but not least, the roof came out GREAT!!!

Great. As far as I'm concerned, we've found our go-to roofing company. I will certainly call them if we ever need work done again.
Description of Work: We called Burke Roofing after noticing a ceiling leak. This was in February when snow accumulation on the roof was beginning to be a problem. We contacted a few companies, but only this one expressed any interest in actually helping us. They were very responsive, diagnosed the problem (an ice dam) quickly, and gave us a realistic estimate for when they'd be able to do the work and for how much. They removed the snow from the side of the roof that was leaking and charged what I think was a very reasonable fee.

I only got a quote and actually a decision has not been made. Ralph seemed to be a very nice & personable guy. He took extra time to research my skylight issue. He wanted to put in 2 new ones even though the ones I have are only 9 months old. They are the largest Velux make. The ones I do have were installed just last year was installed incorrectly not to mention the wrong type (I have a low sloped roof & therefore should've been the curb mounted skylights). That was another contractor who made the big mistake. So when he came for the quote, we talked about making the curb to remount the skylights on. When I got the estimate & had to make a couple of calls to ask questions, he told me he thinks they have to be replaced. However just a curb has to be built. But I am not at all happy with the price to build the curb. I thought it was too high. Even if I take out the cost of the 2 new flashing kits it's still high. This is what I based my Overall experience on. I am sure his workmanship is excellent just based on other reviews.

Lost a few shingles in wind storm. Got Ralph's name from Angie. Returned call promptly. Came right out & replaced the shingles with some spares I had. Also checked my roof & said probably good for another 3-5 years, which i liked hearing. Also checked a leak I said I occasionally get in fireplace during driving rain. Told me chimney was fine and leak could be solved by a mason putting on different chimney cap. Said price is very high & probably better not to do unless severe or happens more often than occasionally. Pleased with service & advice & would use again.

I had an ice dam on the north-side roof that was causing water runoff down the side of our house. I left a message with Ralph on Sunday 2/6 early afternoon, and received a call back from his office that evening stating that he would be by to look at the roof around noon the following day. I received a call from him at about 10am with a general estimate to remove the snow and ice and apply ice-melt, and that he would take care of it after he completed another job. I returned home at 4pm to find the work done. Ralph was very professional despite having some difficulty reaching me, and I am satisfied with the services.

We had ice dams on the roofs of a Cape style house (front and on the full shed dormer on the back). We had the floors refinished last week and the ice dam was causing water to leak in over the picture window and onto the newly finished floor. I called just about every roofer on Angie's List and left messages. Due to the weather most roofers were completely booked or only working in specific towns. When I called this company the woman who answered was very helpful and she said they would definitely get to me, but maybe not until the next day. That afternoon the owner called to see if I still needed someone to shovel the roof and take care of the ice dams, as they were just finishing up a job. They were there within 30 minutes of the phone call. They completely cleared all roofs of snow and spread calcium chloride on the dams to help them melt. They were great!

The person who performed the estimate was knowledgeable and friendly, but did not plan for the traffic and so arrived about an hour later than expected. Other than that, the estimate went very well, my questions were answered, and a quote was produced on the spot. On the day of the job, they said they would be arriving in the morning, but they did not arrive until late afternoon. Apparently, they were running behind because of some rain, but to my recollection, no one contacted me to let me know this, so I had to follow up myself to ask where they were. When they did arrive, the work they did was fast and totally impeccable. They did a great job and I am completely satisfied with the quality of work. The shingles look fantastic, and the vent is much more robust than the one they removed. They did a fairly good job cleaning the area after the work was performed, but there were still some small pieces of shingle here and there, and my wife (fortunately) found a few nails left in our driveway (before they ended up in our tires). I also found that they hadn't been very careful during the demo of the old roof, as shingles had evidently bounced off of my window air conditioner unit, leaving stains, and the screen of said window was actually ripped from falling shingles and will need to be replaced. All in all, I am very satisfied with the quality and value of the work, but I am a little disappointed that they weren't more careful around the work site. I would definitely recommend their work, but I would've been happier if they'd been a little more careful around the site.
Description of Work: From proposal: Strip and dispose of existing roofing material down to roof boards, Inspect roof deck and nail off all roof boards, as needed. Replace all damaged roof boards, up to 64 sq./ln. ft. Add $2.25 sq./ln. ft. thereafter, Install Shingle Vent II where applicable and if needed, Install 8” white drip edge on all edges of roof, Install 30-year Certainteed Landmark/Woodscape architectural shingles, replace all pipe boots, install ice and water shield on entire section of roof.

Dan and his crew did a great job - they really lived up to the consistently positive reviews they have received on Angies List. I was initially impressed by Dan's knowledge (for instance - he recognized that he would need to use shorter nails on the roof overhangs to avoid them popping through the underside, thus requiring repainting), and by his willingness to work with me on something I recognized was not part of a standard roof job - opening holes through two low roofs so that I could install insulation over two heated rooms that had never been insulated. I liked the fact that he advised me that, although he could repoint the chimney top himself, it would be better to have a professional mason go over the whole stack and do whatever needed to be done before Dan came in to do the roofing (I thought his advice made sense, and had one of the masons he recommended repoint the chimney top and redo the deteriorated parging on the stack in the attic). I also liked the fact that Dan's crew is one of the few around here who still hand-hammers, rather than using compressed air nail guns (I'm old school, and believe that hand-hammering allows a roofer more control of his work, resulting in a higher-quality job.) Dan's crew (four guys the first day, he brought a fifth to finish up the next day) was one of the hardest-working bunches of guys I've seen in a long time. They didn't dawdle, they didn't chatter, they just worked. And when we got to the point of installing the insulation, one of them jumped into the crawlspace ahead of me and willingly tackled the nastiest part of the job - stuffing the fiberglass down into the corners of the eaves. And (the icing on the cake) Dan's bid for the job was the lowest of the three I received - not by a lot, but it certainly made it easy for me to give him the job. Bottom line - I would hire these guys again in a heartbeat, and I would recommend them without reservation to anyone who's looking for a roofer.
Description of Work: Complete new roof (shingles, drip edges, ice/water barrier, roofing paper); also installed ridge vent (house never had one); removed non-functional pop-up vents, reflashed vent pipes, reflashed chimney (after mason repointed chimney top), and assisted the home-owner (me) in installation of fiberglass insulation in two low attics that had never been insulated

He came by to look at putting soffit vents in my hip roof. He ended up recommending a carpenter, and gave me a lot of good advice. When I asked how my roof itself was looking, he climbed on up, looked, and said I had a few years yet before I'd need a new roof. I'm always impressed when a company says I don't need their services; it means that they have integrity, and aren't just in it for a quick buck.

The work went exactly as predicted, timewise, schedule-wise, everything-wise. We had to have the chimney work ahead of time, and once that was done, Burke's men came when they said they would, took one day off because of rain (they had told me they do NOT work in rainy conditions, which also impressed me because it showed common sense and concern for them and their workers' well-being), and completed the job within the time frame they said they would. They gave us advance notice that trucks, ladders, etc. would be in the driveway so that we knew what to expect when coming home, and cleaned every night. When they finished up, the cleanup job was fantastic! No complaints whatsoever. In this case, we got what we paid for--excellence. Thanks guys!
Description of Work: Ralph Burke Roofing replaced the roof on our 1880s Victorian. I got 5 estimates, and Burke's was the highest, but these guys were the ONLY ones who actually went up on the roof to inspect it for the estimate. They identified issues we would have to address, including a chimney repair, that the other guys would have been tacking on to their costs later on. This fact alone, in addition to Dan Burke's (one of the two sons who run the business now) professionalism and courtesy, made them the standout just during the initial phase. The main job was to replace the roof, which was very deteriorated.
