These guys are true professionals. It starts when you pick up the phone: they have a very pleasant woman who answers it, so you're never leaving voicemails. Jake the estimator came to my house, I showed him what I needed done, he took digital photos of everything, so that the electricians who came to do the job would have something to work off. It took about 30-40 minutes for the estimate, and he wrote it up ON THE SPOT. So many companies give you the run-around, saying they'll mail or email it to you by the end of the week. We have these motion-detector lights that, as far as I was concerned, have never worked since we bought the house a year ago. By asking a few simple questions, and following the conduit outside the house, he was able to trace it back to a switch in the garage, whose function I had never figured out. I flipped it on, waited till evening, and my motion lights worked. When I realized that Jake could have billed me several hundred dollars to redo my outside lights, and instead chose to help me figure out if they needed work, I knew I'd found the right company. Even though I had someone else scheduled to come give another estimate, I just canceled them, and hired Gibbons Electric. Two young guys (Jesse and Floyd) came to do the work about two weeks later, right on time (7:15am!). They worked hard through the day, and had my new service installed by 3:30. They came back the next day to finish installing the outlets and extra circuit for the dryer. Each day, they were courteous (almost to a fault), and when they left, you wouldn't even know they'd been there. While they replaced the panel, there was no power of course, but they provided me with a place to plug in an extension cord, so I could run my laptop (I worked from home that day). Before they were done, they went around the house, mapping out which circuit-breaker controlled which room, and when they came back with the electrical inspector, left a printed adhesive list of all the circuits attached to the inside of my new panel. This is without doubt, the best service I have ever experienced from any kind of contractor. And their price was very reasonable too. I can't praise them highly enough. I almost wish I had more work to be done on my house!
Description of Work: Upgrade electrical service to 200amps, add circuit for electric clothes dryer, replace cord on dryer, add GFIs in laundry area, install outlet, diagnose problem with outside motion-detector lights. All with permits.

After arriving a little late, they did everything right. The electricians were polite and professional during their work here. Last week, a number of lighting fixtures and outlets stopped working in my house after I had turned up an air conditioner. Gibbons quickly found a couple of faulty circuit breakers and replaced them. Rather than leaving the house to get the parts they needed, they called in to the office and had someone else get the part they needed while they continued doing their work, saving me time and money. They also fixed an outlet that had shorted out when my basement flooded and installed a dedicated outlet for my sump pump. They were extremely efficient, personable, and took a lot of initiative in explaining their work.

My cable connection was broken somewhere in the walls of my condo so I looked on Angie's List for an electrician. I was able to get an appointment with Gibbons within one week so I chose them for the job. Two workers showed up on time. They figured out the problem quickly, consulted me about how I wanted them to precede, and worked quickly to fix the wiring. They were conscientious of the appearance of the building and hide the wires as much as possible. I was hoping the cost would be closer to $400 but I would still strongly recommend them.
Description of Work: Two workers from Gibbons came out to fix my cable wiring. They had to connect the outside wiring into 3 rooms in my place. The task involved sending the wires up to the roof and then down into my place.

The company sends an estimator to go over the project, then there is a separate scheduler to contact, and finally they send technicians; so a lot of different people are involved. The technicians showed up when promised and worked briskly through the list. In general, they were careful and cleaned up after themselves. They had suggestions for solving any problems that came up, and were very easy to deal with. There were two things that were not completed correctly, and the technicians had to come back twice to address them. The problems were fixed quickly (within a couple days) and with a good attitude. Luckily, my schedule was flexible that week, so it wasn't a big deal, but if I had a busier schedule, it would have been a pain to handle.
Description of Work: I had a long list of tasks: changing out old wall switches and outlets, moving phone and cable modem lines, changing exterior light fixtures, adding some wall switches and an exterior outlet, etc.

The 3rd floor study connections required dropping cables through the walls to the basement, which required creating some holes in the walls in order to fish the cable through. They did this very efficiently and patched all the holes very neatly and to my satisfaction. They were very solicitous in determining exactly where I wanted things placed and explained procedures carefully. They anticipated my concerns and brought them up before I had to, which I thought was very unusual and very gratifying. They cleaned up after the work was completed and actually left the place tidier than it was when they arrived. Dave and Floyd were polite, professional and friendly. The only problem I encountered was that the track in the kitchen began to come loose when I tried adjusting the spot lights. Gibbons responded immediately after I called about this and scheduled a prompt return to correct the problem. Even so, I would have no hesitation in hiring Gibbons in the future because they showed every sign of being conscientious and professional.
Description of Work: Installed track lighting in kitchen, hallway and bedroom; installed 9 dimmer switches throughout the house; and installed cable lines/jacks for internet and cable service.

Very courteous, arrived on time first appointment. Even called the second time to tell us that he was running 15 minutes late! Protective of our wood floors, wore protective booties in the house. Protected our walls and floors with a tarp. Joe cleaned up thoroughly after and even wiped the floor of any dust. Joe even patched up the small hole on the wall needed for the switch. Moved any furniture needed so he could assess walls and returned furniture to exact spot afterwards. Very thorough. Joe did a great job!
Description of Work: Took down 2 old lighting fixtures in hallway and replaced them with 2 new ones and installed an updated dimmer switch. Installed a sconce in our basement with a dimmer switch. Previous outdoor light post had a short circuit and was supposedly "fixed" by another electric company but still had problems. Gibbons electric came out and listened to what we had to say about the old light post and installed new wiring and conduit, as well as a cement foundation for a new outdoor lighting post. Put a photoelectric sensor on the post, as well as a dimmer, that we had requested. The tech put the whole light post together as well. He then cut down the old metal light post and buried the short stub that was left. We kept having power surges anytime we used our vacuum cleaner in the basement while the dehumidifier was running. Gibbons electric told us about a new circuit breaker that they could put into our existing electric panel to prevent this from happening and so far so good!

I have used them before and was pleased, but this time around did not go well. The first one they brought was defective and they had to get another part. I was charged for the extra time that this took to return with the parts. The digital display is so small that you literally need a magnifying glass to read it. If I had known it would be so hard to read, I would have gone with another manual timer. They didn't bring the proper switch plate to install and had to go to a hardware store to get it. I don't understand why they didn't come with the parts they know they would need. They know how to do the job, but it seemed to be one error after another. On the plus side, they were very neat and put covers on their shoes and swept the floors. I argued the price because I shouldn't have paid for the extra time it took them to get it right and I did get the price down from $256.

They were responsive. My initial phone call was in the morning and I got a call back to make an appointment for an estimate that same afternoon. The estimate was emailed to me the same day the estimate was done. When I called to schedule the job, the person responsible for scheduling called me back the same day. It was a two-day job. They (I believe there names were Adam and Robert) were on time the first day, about a half-hour late on the second day (but they apologized, explaining that there was a company meeting). They both presented in a professional manner, doing a walk-through of the house with me, before starting the project to make sure we were on the same page, as to what was to be done, as well as, afterward to make sure that I was happy with the job that was done, before leaving. I did have to adjust the settings on the motion sensor light installed along the front part of the driveway because it stayed on most of the night due to being overly sensitive to cars passing by on the street, but that was easy enough, as I was given an instruction manual (I was advised that it was likely that I would have to play with the settings on the motion sensor lights).
Description of Work: Installation of three exterior motion sensor lights of my two-family home, upgrading the wiring of the outlet in the pantry of both the owner-occupied and rental units so that the microwave and toaster oven could run at the same time without blowing a fuse, installation of three additional outlets in the basement, one with a switch for an overhead light.

Two men came and looked over the work and carried it out. In retrospect, I should have looked over the place more carefully beforehand because we did miss some of the radiators, but many other people were working in the house at the time and it was chaotic. The workmen did everything that I asked them to and they did it well.

The two electricians who worked here the entire week came on time everyday, cleaned up completely, did excellent work, and were very professional. They had to work around furniture and a lot of stuff in the way. When one of the jobs we planned would have involved tearing up walls and being a much bigger project than we had realized, they made a suggestion to do it in a different way. We agreed, and the end result is fine.
Description of Work: Gibbons recently did a week's worth of a variety of electrical work in our home. They upgraded the service, grounded several ungrounded outlets, installed ceiling lighting fixtures, installed a ceiling fan, installed new basement workbench lighting, repaired/replaced an outdoor light timer, and made several other improvements.

This job took two trips entirely through the fault of the customer! We had a bare bulb fixture in our dining room, so when a friend replaced their dining room chandelier with something different, they passed it on to us. Unfortunately, I didn't consider the fact that we'd need the mounting hardware before it was installed! Gibbons didn't charge us for a trip charge, although it would have been perfectly reasonable for them to do so. We went to the hardware store and got what we needed, rescheduled, and the job was completed quickly and professionally. They even asked if we had anything else to do, since we had plenty of time left on the hour.

I'll be happy as long as they don't bill me for the second day.
Description of Work: My lights were flickering so they came in and checked the voltage and the amperage. The voltage was spiking so they assumed it was an outside problem and called the electric company, which found nothing. I called Gibbons back the next day and they had to come back out and fix the circuit breaker, which I had told them it probably was in the beginning.

I called Gibbons Electric and was called back promptly. Martin came at my convenience, early the following morning. He completed the repair promptly and was a pleasure to deal with. It went well. Not sure a 10 minute visit is worth $150 but that is the min so there we are. I brought the two men downstairs into the basement and they found out pretty quickly what the problem was. They then even agreed (their own idea actually) to check some other parts of the building to research further some potential longer term issues. Nice fellas.
