I needed some troubleshooting done in my house for some overhead lights and the wiring/circuit breaker attached to it. I had a security system installed and discovered that same night that the overhead lights for the kitchen, laundry room, and dining room do not work. Two electricians found that the wiring had been broken during the security system installation, so they detached the broken wire from the service panel and then wired the lights to a different circuit. They cleaned up nicely and got the job done as quick as possible and I was able to get reimbursed by the security company's insurance easily.
Description of Work: Troubleshoot why kitchen, laundry room, & dining room overhead lights were not working, found problem, wired workaround, replaced old switches

Gibbons was excellent. The receptionist took down all the info and had the electrician/scheduler call me back. He said they could check it out between 12 and 2. Being concerned for my tenants, I called later in the day to see if the receptionist had any information. She was able to tell me that the electrician had indeed gone to the house, and she said normally, they would call to report what they did. I apparently had just beat the electrician to it. Almost immediately, the electrician called me to assure me the problem was fixed and he answered all my questions about what he found and what he did to correct the problem. I found both the receptionist and the electrician to have great attitudes. My tenants later reported they had heat, so they were happy and I was too.
Description of Work: My primary residence, which I'm currently renting out, had no heat according to the tenant. The tenant also felt that the problem was electrical, not the furnace itself. I called Gibbons Electric (after another Angie's List company could not respond to the emergency). Since I was not at home, I can't speak to their punctuality, but I can tell you that they fixed the problem by installing a new breaker (in the circuit panel).

Very professional. Great experience. The same electricians showed up each day on time, cleaned up each night. Never made a huge mess and never left a mess at the end of the day. Sometimes they would work through lunch or late to make sure they completed a section that day. They were very careful to minimize the notch sizes and listened to our concerns about woodwork and wallpaper. A much better experience than we had anticipated. Recommend them highly.
Description of Work: Gibbons Electric replaced the house's extensive knob and tube wiring. Also added several lighting fixtures.

I requested bids from 4 bidders, 3 from Angie's List & 1 other. Gibbon's came in $1000 lower than all the others. They set a schedule, arrived punctually, performed the work on-time and in-budget, cleaned up after themselves, and provided documentation of completion and approval by the inspector.
Description of Work: Needed to upgrade electrical service from 100 amp to 200 amp in 90 year old 2-family condo to enable re-wiring in the attic that was developed sometime in the 1930s using existing circuits at that time. Use of a portable A/C or (worse) an electric space heater always caused circuit breakers to shut off. This contractor who knew the town's inspector by 1st name was able to underbid all the other bidders by a full $1000 because they had a better knowledge of what the local codes actually required.

Gibbons Electric did a great job from start to finish. First there was a thorough in-house estimate. The estimator made several suggestions and was very thorough. As move-in day approached, we realized we needed more things done than on the estimate. Gibbons had no problem adding that work to the job. The electricians showed up promptly, communicated with my wife and I throughout the day and did several different tasks -- the biggest of which was installing lighting in our living room. They also added a cable jack, replaced several fixtures/ceiling fans and added a new outlet in our basement to install a dehumidifier. A person from the office stopped by midway through the day to check on things and estimate a time of completion. When the technicians left, they cleaned up beautifully and did a great job. The best news -- the total came to $75 less than the actual estimate. When does that ever happen? Great job, highly recommended.

Gibbons Electric was phenomenal. The estimator was on time and very thorough. I had a written estimate within 24 hours. When I scheduled the work they were able to get to me within a week. They showed up on time, calling before hand to make sure we were on track. They wore booties in the house and were very careful with the equipment as they brought it in, making sure it did not damage my floors. They rewired my outlets first, as I wanted to lock the cats up in that room so they could work in peace. They were fast, efficient, did a great job, and cleaned up after themselves, even putting back furniture I had moved the night before. They called when finished, and called again when they left to say they had let the cats back out in the house and made sure neither of them got outside. The price was exactly as quoted, even though they had some trouble with the outlets in my room. I will absolutely use them again for any electrical work I need to have done.
Description of Work: Repaired common front light switches, installed new light box in DR, reversed polarity on incorrectly wired outlets and put a new outlet into the master bedroom, appropriate for using A/C in summer.

Overall, it went well. The communication was good between me and them. I didn't feel like I was having difficulty getting in touch with them. They are a bit larger company, so it was a little more bureaucratic. They had a different guy for the estimate and the scheduling of the work. It was fine, worked out okay, and everything is a good job. It wasn't 100% perfect in hooking up the electrical panel. We had a small blemish where they had left the oil burner disconnected and we ended up not having heat that night. They did have to come back and fix it. The guys who were here on site did a reasonably good job. Steve, the supervisor, was great! He clearly knew everything that was going on, what to do, and was the right guy to talk to. I was happy when he came to visit and inspect what his guys were doing, which he did a few times. That gave me confidence. The guys who were here day to day doing the work, I didn't feel quite so much confidence in as they were a little less experienced. Steves presence set my mind at ease. I did some comparison shopping and I felt that their price was in line with other companies for the same work. However, I felt that all companies were high. Also, in order to save some money, I was able to provide the hardware (i.e. the lighting outlets, fixtures, electrical panel, and dimmer switches) myself rather than buying through Gibbons. That saved me around $800 - $1000. Overall, the work was good.
Description of Work: I hired them for the electric in our kitchen remodel. It was a fairly big job. They had to replace our entire electrical panel, added a new subpanel for the kitchen, rewired the entire kitchen for outlets and brought the electrical up to code. They also installed new outlets in our laundry room, installed recessed lighting, hooked up electric for a microwave, dishwasher, and other appliances.

We recently hired Gibbons Electric for installing a 240V line for the dryer. We feel we made a big mistake in hiring them. Even though their hourly rate at $140 is 40% higher than the market rate, we went along assuming that a higher price translates to better quality workmanship and better customer service. They failed on both assumptions. Typically a $100/hr rate, which is average rate for electricians, includes 2 electricians who work in tandem and get the job done faster. Gibbons, instead, provided one electrician and a helper who did nothing but carry tools and ladder and sawed larger-than-needed notches. At the end of the job, the electrician even commented that he felt he is the only one working. Ultimately, one pays more per hour while taking longer to complete the job. Our biggest issue was with the number and the overly sized notches and Gibbon's denial to patch them appropriately. The electrician who created the issue responded that there was nothing he could do about it and that he was following the company's procedure. He noted that I was not the first to complain about the patches. I called the office and talked to ?Steve?, perhaps a manager, who indicated that this is the quality of work they perform. After long discussions and statements of denials, he conceded to come take a look after 4 days. When he saw the job, he agreed that there could have been fewer notches and one in particular, could have been a much smaller notch; however, he was not willing to do anything about it. He indicated the quality of work they do is no better elsewhere, and they have worked in several units. I gave several options to resolve but Steve refused all of them. When I told him that I would write in Angie's list , his response was "go ahead." Cost would not have been a big consideration had they done quality work or if they had stood behind their work to rectify the situation or even apologized. At another location I had hired another electrician who charged $100/hr for 2 licensed electricians. They made extra effort to make as few notches as possible, discuss and seek permission where they would cut the notch. Once done, they taped over the notches and then patched and sanded them twice. This company did not demonstrate that they cared for the quality of work they did nor did they show any interest in customer satisfaction. They came across as defiant rather than conciliatory inspite of mediocre work and dissatisfied customer. It could be pervasive across the company or it could be individuals that I dealt with but regardless of that, at the end it was sub-standard job and poor attitude towards customers resulting in additional work and expense for us to fix their mess.
Description of Work: Install a 240V electric outlet, linear distance between electric panel and outlet approx 7-8 feet.

They showed up on time--after adjusting appointment to fit both our schedules. Did the work expeditiously and responded appropriately to my questions and concerned. Cleaned up after themselves beautifully, and, as I indicated above, came right back to fix the problem that recurred.
Description of Work: Several household electrical repairs. Removed old hood over stove and installed new one that I had purchased, per their instructions. Changed cranky light switch, cleaned up light socket so it worked. They and I thought they had fixed a problem with one light fixture, but shortly after they left, it misbehaved again. They u-turned, came back and provided a temporary fix until I acquire a new fixture for them to install.

The folks from Gibbons Electric were courteous, professional, knowledgeable and competent. They knew what they were doing and did a superb job. They were thoughtful, neat and clean. Although the opening of many holes in the ceiling and walls was required, the job was done with minimal disturbance to the walls and ceilings. At the end of each day, the place was left spotless. They did what they said they would do, working hard to complete the work on my tight schedule. Working with Gibbons Electric was a pleasure. They will be my go to electricians. I would recommend them highly.
Description of Work: My residence had no lights in the living room or bedrooms. Lighting in the dining room and kitchen and entrance way was totally inadequate. Gibbons Electric installed recessed lighting with dimmer switches throughout my residence, turning it from a dark depressing space into a beautiful, bright welcoming space.

Their workers are friendly, professional and easy to talk to. With one exception I've always been thrilled with their work. That exception was when they had to install outlets all around a room that hadn't had any. They needed to put holes in the ceiling and walls to run the wiring down. Some of the holes were much bigger than I had expected and the proper filler wasn't used to patch them. But Gibbons did right by me and gave me a discount that covered the cost of the materials I needed to put the walls right. After that I was happy to call them back to install a new light and a dimmer switch in my baby's room. I'm continuing to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Description of Work: I've called Gibbons for a variety of jobs over the last three years. I think the first time was a ceiling fan installation, but they've also fixed our doorbells (1st and 2nd floor, we have a 2 family house), installed lights, outlets, switches.

What I really like about Gibbons is that they are very professional. They come when they say they will ... and call to say they are on the way and will be there in 15 minutes. They are really good at trouble shooting and fixing problems. I have used them before and will again in the future
The contractor staff was great! They were prompt (in fact, called twice during the window of time they were expected so I didn't need to sit around for some of the time I had set aside), they were completely professional and cleaned up better than I would have done! I highly recommend them.

The panel upgrade went well, they had the job done in a day and a half. They made every effort to keep the power off for the minimum amount of time. They were punctual and professional. When I described the work on the phone, I was given an estimate of one hour of labor plus parts, with a two-hour appointment window. The installer, Floyd, called several times to update me on his status, and arrived within the specified window. He was professional, friendly, and efficient - clearly knowledgable about the installation and assembly process for the fan (a ceiling-hugger style). I was charged for the hour, as planned, from which an Angie's list coupon was deducted. My only complaint - and it's a minor one - is that I was charged $12 for an ordinary round ceiling box that retails for $3 or $4. I would definitely use this company again, and would ask for a return visit from Floyd if he's available.
Description of Work: Installation of ceiling fan. This involved removing an old box designed for a light-weight light fixture, enlarging the hole, and screwing a heavier-duty box directly to a joist, then installation of the fan itself, which I had partially assembled.

Excellent experience from first call, scheduling and home visit. Very professional. The installation of the ceiling fan is a two part project involving the placement of the ceiling fan connection through a drop ceiling. The drop ceiling is due to be removed and re-plastered by another contractor. Once the ceiling is re-plastered, I will have Gibbons Electric back out to refinish the installation of the fan. Both electricians were professional, polite, informative and a pleasure to work with. They called ahead to make sure we were ready. They discussed the project with the plasterer to make sure the height of the ceiling fan box was correct. They rewired the existing light and wall light switch. They completed the work in about two hours and made sure all was tidy after they completed the work. They also checked the existing wiring in the house and recommended that a surge suppressor be installed in the main panel, and a grounding strap installed across the water meter - I agreed and the work was completed in a timely manner. I would highly recommend this company.

We were just about to depart the house on Saturday evening for a special event when approximately 1/3 of the house went without electricity..and with odd random locations. We checked all possible avenues and knew it was serious and it would require immediate attention. Before departing..we quickly searched Angie's list and made note of 3 highly recommended electrical contractors. On our way to the event at about 8PM, we left messages at all companies. Gibbons Electrical (Ken) responded immediately. We discussed the issue and the probable causes. He reviewed the costs for after-hour emergency service. We agreed that with no heat, etc, we would need to move forward. He called us within the hour and had a technician ready to work at our home the next morning at 9AM (Sunday). The technician (Jim) arrived promptly. Upon entering the house, he placed shoe covers on (which we always appreciate) and proceeded in a very thorough manner to locate the source of the problem. He discovered the issue, was able to resolve and correct it...and within 2 hours we were "turned back on". The overall experience was fantastic....very professional and Jim was very knowledgeable. We have other electrical "to do" projects and will most certainly be using Gibbons for these jobs.

The Gibbons team was prompt, friendly and professional. They were successful in identifying the root cause, fixed the problems and rewired with new lines.
